  • Mixing my "To Do" hunter group list

Some time ago, I've decided that instead of waiting for a cannon or an homebrewer to make the groups I would like to see I should start doing so myself. I order to do so, I've made myself a number "To Do" lists for future ideas- one list to "specific target" groups, one for "dark mirror" groups, one for "Ascension translation" groups, one for "antagonist specific" groups, one for "Vigilant Times" groups and one for "regional powers" groups. The first and the last are kinds obvious- the first is about the regular Night Stalkers/Witch Finders/Spirit Slayers/Mortal Remains format and the last is about hunters who come from Regional and Great Powers from around the world. The second is about creating a Slashing Conspiracies who are devoted to killing in the way the regular groups work to protect humanity. The third is meant to convert Ascension's secret societies (Traditions, Conventions and Crafts) as Conspiracies. The fourth is about groups in the style of the first list, but who hunt the more "evil" monsters, which means they may work together with the more "human" ones- strixs, idigams, spirits, abyssal horrors, etc. Finally, Vigilant Times is a project which is meant to similar to Ancient Bloodlines/Mysteries, only for Hunter instead of Vampire- an historic setting which gives all kind of new options.

As you may see, 6 lists is a bit too much for anyone to handle, and while working on the first list I've found that some of my groups already overlap between the lists, so I've thought that it would be easier to look which hunter groups I could also mix together!

so now, here are the free slots and the combinations I've thought about-

    Combinations
Night Stalkers- Requiem for the Regina- Navalon
    Changing Breeds- Madzimbabwe- Mutapan Empire

The Heirs of the Crown interest me. Can you give some details, if you are working on them?

I'm going to post the Nimrod Movement first and expand the Cage of Shadows into a darker form (and maybe adding some Aki Ten material for WWII), but I do have a concept for them- they were first founded during the Dark Ages and were chased by the Church during the Spanish Inquisition, being seen as heretics. I think they are going to absorb some of the features of the Circle of Red as a group of demonologists who use their dark side in order to transcend it- a mirror to the "Dark MM" who claim to be righteous, but commit terrible sins. Their Endowment is based around summoning one of the 72 demons, each being a 1-5 power who grants them some sort of bonus or special ability. They claim that those demons are simply their own dark personalities taking form, and that Hell is simply the manifestation of all the sins made by mankind.

You're gonna port over the Wu Nung, but not willing to throw in the Hem-Ka Sobk as a renegade Scorpion Cult that destroys Relics in order to return magic to the source? For shame!

I'd love to see your Jazz Age Requiem pitch.

what? I'm porting those guys! I've just put them under the Shuankhen as favored prey! There is no reason they won't be a renegade scorpion cult which is destroying Relics, but I've simply thought that the fact those guys eat the "unworthy" would feel like something which would scare the hell out of the Shuankhen- like, "you thought you are at the top of the food chain? think again"

I'm also still thinking about a pitch for Jazz Age Requiem, as well as the rest of the open slots. It may take some time to have a good idea for them, however.

So I have a concept for the Jazz Age Requiem. I'm still not sure about how to call them, but they are inspired by a concept which was in the forums about a conspiracy of necromancer musicians. They are going to be jazz musicians, mostly afro-americans, who "feel the beat of life"- that is, they can hear the heartbeats of other people as some sort of sweet music. Vampires, who prey upon the living and drink their blood, ruin that "beat", which is why they seek to "tune it up"- which mostly means killing the bloodsuckers. Their Endowment would be based around their ability to feel heatrbeats- which would allow them tracking down vampires and do some very nasty things to them.

So, after giving it some thought, here are the most developed ideas I have for now. I would like to here which ones you would like to see first

Heirs of the Crown- warlocks who were persecuted during the Spanish Inquisition, they call upon the Lesser Keys of Solomon and wear demons as a face for strange powers
Architects of the Hierarchy- and HYDRA parallel to Task Force VALKYRIE, they are motivated by an idea for a "perfect world" which includes them as its masters and the rest should die
Los Inocentes- dark inquisitors who murder people in the name of faith and wish to purify the Vigil from heresy.
Cult of Moloch- a group which exist since the biblical days, they follow the strange rite of sacrifice, blood and fire in exchange for great and terrible powers and dark gifts
Tecuanimeh- servants of the Smoking Mirror which spill blood in his honor, in order to promise their survival under the upcoming Black Sun and the age of darkness it would bring.
Queen Anne's Revenge- a criminal organization which was formed during the Golden Age of Piracy and steals not only material wealth, but also the souls of their victims, which they use for power
Followers of the Dark Star- magicians who seek after the lost star of the heavens in order to bring salvation to humanity and destroy those who use tyrannic magic to ruin it
Aga Nritya- a thuggee cult which sacrifice those souls which were stolen from the Wheel before their time and send them to Kali, and dance with their Fire in a strange and weird ways
Garden of the Hesperides- healers who walk in the Hedge in search for weird remedies and protect people from the dangers of the thorns and its Fae denizens
Maw of the River- a cult which hunts down relics in the name of a primordial god and devour them for their powers and curses- before seeking after the agents of the Devourer to eat them alive
Maagal HaBaal VehaAshera- a new incarnation of an ancient Canaanite Priesthood, they tends and make their own gods from clay and wood while fighting the influence of the rival undying deities
Chasseurs de Tetes- a ruthless group from the days of the Terror who carry an old idea which says that all stories must end in a certain way.
Divine Artificer- followers of the Grant Maker who hunt after Satan and his creations by using weapons forged from divine metals
Nibiru- one of the oldest groups in the world of hunters who hunt since the days of Pangaea and seal away ancient evils using strange artifacts
Followers of the Heart- musicians and necromancers who seek after the music of life and death and stop the undead who destroy that beat

Architects of the Hierarchy are my favorite kind of group; I'm a sucker for that sort of thing,

Brotherhood of the Jaguar and Followers of the Dark Star both sound neat, but could use more evocative names. And you already know my stance on the Hem-Ka Sobk. Good stuff all around!

I hate to be that guy, but this sounds like some Old World of Darkness type of racial caricature made into a supernatural hunting group, and I'd try to think of a way to do something era appropriate without coming up with something that goes into that territory.

First time I've ever heard anyone say "Jazz Musician" is a racial caricature.

magical black jazz musicians who feel the beat of life doesn't sound the least bit coonish to you? I heard the concept, and heard some mystical mumbo jumbo combined with a throwaway about them being mostly black, and that's always a warning sign when people are writing stuff like this.

If the concept is developed and goes into a greater effort to explain what the heck this beat of life crap is, or if it's even necessary, that'd be cool. Maybe the founders found special music that had certain effects, or maybe they're just regular people looking out for their communities, but it's a decent idea marred by its wording in this initial stage.

LostLight, if you keep working on the idea, it'd be cool to discuss it further on here or via PMs, whatever works for you.

                            wait... what?....

The reason I've said that the group is "mostly Afro Americans" is because this is a Jazz Age era- and the origin of Jazz music comes from the Afro American community. There is no reason a white guy/girl/transgender/etc won't be able to join the group, there is no "racial connection" which gives you "special powers" and there is no reason that in modern times it is no longer true- only that during that Era, the ones who first found how to hear the heartbeats of other people were Afro Americans. Why? Because they were the ones to discover Jazz. This group is about a style of music- one who breached from one community to the other and spread through the social classes.

Calling a group of Jazz musicians who are (for historical reasons) mostly black a "racial caricature" is like calling the Japanese male escorts group the same way because that culture was accepted in Japan during that Era. I'm focusing on the Jazz music culture, not the race, gender or any other feature of the musicians themselves, and historically the ones to give birth to that culture were Afro Americans- and for me, that's just a foot note in the history of the group. Or are you saying that all different Hunter groups must have their origin from white people so it would be "culturally appropriate"?

EDIT- I'm sorry if I was sounded a bit offensive. I just woke up with an headache, and that kind annoyed me. I'm sure you have a reason for saying what you said, and I do not want to make the group "cartoonist". If you have any kind of contribution to make the group as three dimensional as possible, I would appreciate any help you could give

Why would it? Magic magicians have a long and respectable history; Dungeons and Dragons bard class is probably the most obvious example.

Making them jazz musicians rather than Welsh luteists seems like a minor detail. I certainly can't think of any sterotype based around magical jazz musicians.
