  • 2E Yantra For Legacies

    Hello, everyone!

    I was wondering if you guys could help me with a few Legacies I was looking to implement in my game. I adapted their Attainments but I do not have their Yantra. Ideally I would like 5 Yantra / Legacy, so to balance things out, but I am having a hard time coming up with them. I guess it is just hard to balance what is symbolic and relevant to the essence of a Legacy with a situation that will come up in game/could be used for spell casting!

    Awakening Gambit

    Pure Sovereign

    Fangs of Mara

    Reality Stalkers

    Awakening Gambit
    Game tokens; such as cards, dominoes or chess pieces (+1)
    Playing a game as a simulation of reality; such as chess, monopoly or Street Fighter (+2, +1 if it's rushed)

    Pure Sovereigns
    Symbols of authority through excellence; such as medals or diplomas (+1)
    A personal "Throne Room" (+2)

    Fangs of Mara
    Succeeding on an Empathy or Intimidation roll relevant to the spell (+2)
    Records of nightmares or trauma; such as paintings, journals or video recordings (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)
    Receiving or inflicting torture (+2)
    Mind-altering drugs (+2, +1 without a corresponding condition)

    Reality Stalkers
    Succeeding on a Larceny or Stealth roll relevant to the spell (+2)
    Equipment for geodesic measurements (+1)
    Making occult-mathematical calculations (+1, +2 if they take time)
    Ritually prepared passageways (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)

        A funny thing I noticed: Eyes of Ain Soph and Celestial Masters work off similar paradigms. This means that their Yantras will be roughly similar, but their philosophies will differ. That encourages comparing and contrasting them through play. The same can be said of Forge Masters and Transhuman Engineers.

        Eyes of Ain Soph
        Succeeding on an Academics or Occult roll relevant to the spell (+2)
        Consulting or making occult diagrams (+1, +2 if they take time)
        Measuring equipment or dowsing tools (+1)
        Altered states of consciousness; through sensory deprivation, ecstatic experiences or mind-altering substances (+2, +1 without a corresponding condition)

        Celestial Masters
        Succeeding on an Occult or Science roll relevant to the spell (+2)
        Consulting or making occult-science diagrams (+1, +2 if they take time)
        Navigation and astrology equipment (+1)
        Naturally transformed materials; such as fulgurite, petrified wood, chalk, ash (+1, +2 for rare or extraterrestrial materials)

        Liberatores
        Succeeding on a Larceny roll relevant to the Spell (+2)
        Succeeding on any social roll to encourage freedom (+2)
        Keys to freedom; such as Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book, weapons, keys and metal-cutters, inspiring songs (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)
        Reminders of bondage; such as an empty beer bottle, broken handcuffs, scars from an abusive relationship (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)

        Forge Masters
        Succeeding on a Crafts or Weaponry roll relevant to the spell (+2)
        Tools of craft; such as hammers, pliers, anvils, furnaces (+1, +2 for a functional forge)
        Self-made handiwork (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)
        Perfected metals (+2)

        Transhuman Engineers
        Succeeding on a Science or Crafts roll relevant to the spell (+2)
        Meaningful application of technology; anything from a space shuttle lift-off to lighting a small fire (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)
        Personally optimized piece of technology (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)
        Evidence of technology uplifting humanity (+1, +2 if tailored to the spell)

          Any thoughts on the Dreamspeakers and their Yantras?

            For the Dreamspeakers, entheogens are a natural +2 Yantra. They also need to make bargains with some of the Dreamborn, so a symbolic representation of whichever Dreamborn they're currently allied with seems a natural thing. Generally driving oneself into an ecstatic frenzy by fire leaping or beating drums probably counts too.

              Succeeding on an Empathy or Expression roll relevant to the spell (+2)
              Music and dancing; anything from rhythmic drumbeat to techno (+1)
              Isolation in a sacred place (+1, +2 if it endangers the Dreamspeaker)
              Representations of the Dream and Dreamborn (+1, +2 for tokens originating from the Dream, +2 for appropriate body modification)
              Altered states of consciousness; through sensory deprivation, ecstatic experiences or mind-altering substances (+2, +1 without a corresponding condition)

              Huh... Apparently I gave them sex, drugs and rock n' roll as Yantras. Also, considering their duty to their communities, the Techne Merit will be prominent.
