  • [2E] Spells – Same effect, different Arcanum

Topic for almost the same spells – you know them. They different in only the main Arcanum of it, but get’s the same spell effect. Most of the time, they are about Ephemeral Entities. Here are some examples from 2E Mage corebook. Feel free to add your own.

    Know Ephemera (Arcanum 1)
    Practice: Knowing
    Primary Factor: Potency
    Withstand: Rank
Suggested Rote Skills: Academics, Brawl, Socialize
This spell allows the mage to glean a number of the following facts about a Ephemeral Entity equal to the Spell’s Potency:
    • What is the entity’s name?
    • What is its Rank?
    • What Manifestations does it possess?
    • What Numina does it possess?
    • What are its Influences, and roughly how strong are they?
    • What is its Ban or Bane?
    Arcana:
Death 1 – Mage can cast Know Ephemera on ghosts.
Mind 1 - Mage can cast Know Ephemera on goetia.
Spirit 1 – Mage can cast Know Ephemera on spirits.

    Command Ephemera (Arcanum 2)
    Practice: Ruling
    Primary Factor: Potency
    Withstand: Rank
Suggested Rote Skills: Medicine, Athletics, Persuasion
Sometimes the gentle approach must give way to raw dominance. This spell allows the mage to command a ephemeral entity to undertake a number of actions equal to the spell’s Potency. This compulsion only lasts as long as the spell’s Duration, so the entity might abandon an indefinite or extended action when the spell’s Duration wears off. Commands that go against the entity’s self-interest (including abandoning a host or Fetter) provoke a Clash of Wills. This spell has no effect on spirits above Rank 5.
    Arcana:
Death 2 – Mage can cast Command Ephemera on ghosts.
Mind 2 - Mage can cast Command Ephemera on goetia.
Spirit 2 – Mage can cast Command Ephemera on spirits.

    Familiar (Arcanum 4)
    Practice: Patterning
    Primary Factor: Duration
Suggested Rote Skills: Athletics, Expression, Intimidate
The mage creates a Familiar bond between an ephemeral entity and a mage, who must both be subjects of the spell. The entity may not be greater than Rank 2. The mage gains the Familiar Merit and the entity the Familiar Manifestation Condition for the Duration of the spell. Both parties must be willing, and can end the bond whenever they wish.
    Arcana:
Death 4 – Mage can cast Familiar on ghosts.
Mind 4 - Mage can cast Familiar on goetia.
Spirit 4 – Mage can cast Familiar on spirits.

There are alot that go along the lines of the Ephemeral Entities. I am assuming that you are looking for other examples.

Yes, if you have examples, point me in, or rewrite the corebook's spells oneself.

Control Heat (Forces) - Control Cold (Death)

Cold is listed as the purview of Death, seems legit to copy the Control Heat spell, just refluff it into adding or removing cold.

Dispel Magic (Prime) - Decay Magic (Death)

Supernal Dispellation (Prime) - Supernal Requiem (Death)

There was actually a 1st edition printed spell for Death that mimicked Supernal Dispellation, too, but I have no idea what was it's name.
