  • Limits and Differences of the Veiling Spells (Supernal Veil)

    Greetings,

I have questions on veiling spells, I would love your help:

    1. What exactly is the limit on the scope of the Supernal Veil spell: "This spell wards its subject, which can be a spell, object, mage, supernatural creature, or any other active magical phenomenon, from detection." Primary Factor: Duration... So exactly against what protects? All types of detection including Sleeper science? All magic detection including other splats abilities? Just Supernal magic?

    2. Does Suppress Aura hide the mage Nimbus if he casts another spell during the duration?

    1. Yes. Because Veiling works by hiding something under its purview from everything else, or hiding something else from stuff under its purview.

    2. Yes, that’s part of the point.

In this case it’s hiding something under the arcana’s purview from all forms of detection.

The answer to that is a little controversial and depends on how you read the spell.

If it's hiding something under the purview from detection, it would hide the supernatural elements listed in the spell's description from any kind of detection, even via mundane senses.
If it's hiding something from detection by things under the purview of the arcanum, it hides them only from supernatural detection.

The way the spell is written, and the fact that it's limited to only effecting specific supernatural subjects, can be read to heavily imply that it is meant to be the former. I'd go so far as to say that this is essentially RAW.

Many people feel like this is too powerful, and read it as the latter.
