  • The 'Imbued Items for Non-Mage Characters' Problem

The Imbued Item Merit says that Sleepers can use an Item, but only roll a dice pool of the Imbued spell's rating, thus making lower level spells more difficult to use, rather than less. Since it makes no logical sense, does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this? Currently, I'm toying with the idea of allowing the effects of the 'Relic Attuned' Sleepwalker Merit for an additional Merit dot on the Item. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or ideas for alternatives?

I imagine that with like most rolls you can spend a WP for +3.

Why are you giving Sleepers Imbued Items though? That shit shreds their souls.

All individuals find it harder to use simpler Imbued Items than more complicated, involved ones, not just Sleepers/Sleepwalkers.

But it does follow a certain logic.
Simpler spells have simpler effects, and the Imbued Item doesn't need to contain that complex a "spell template" to make it work.
More advanced spells require a lot more effort, and have a much stronger "template" which requires less effort to work.

If you want a non-Mage character to have a decent chance of using a Magical item, give them an Artifact.

        Where is that from?

But outside using the Sleepwalker Merit 'Relic Attuned', non-Mage characters cannot use Artifacts (at least under current rules; specific crossover rulings may change this).

They can if they know what the trigger is to get the artifact to auto-activate, which is something that most artifacts can do. Again, why are you putting this stuff in the hands of Sleepers though? Like, I'm not even judging, I'm just curious considering the side effects are pretty unpleasant.

Possibly to follow Cthullu's example, how many stories begin with a mortal gaining a powerful relic that destroys his sanity?
