  • On Membership in an Arisen Cult

How might one best represent belonging to an Arisen Cult, mechanically speaking? Would a Mystery Cult Initiation Merit cover it, or would it need to be something more involved? And for that matter, does anyone think the Cult mechanic should be revamped on the Arisen end? After all, Mage seems to get a lot of mileage out of the Mystery Cult Influence Merit. Would something similar work for Mummy?

Yeah, MCI is gonna be the best answer.

FWIW it looks like we'll be getting new mechanics along those ends in 2e.

So how does an Scorpion Cult screen for agents of the Aegis Kai Doru out to steal dah their Mummy's Relics by pretending to join? Make them drink a truth serum made out of the bile of a thousand asps?

Depends on the cult really. Some are much easier to infiltrate than others. How does any group screen for members of malevolent groups? Undercover work is hard, you generally test someone's devotion to the cause, you don't leave relics in the hands of a single individual. Also, if the worst does happen, then the Arisen is always there in backup; stealing an artifact is fairly easy, keeping it is the tricky part.

Equally, how does the AKD stop Arisen cult members joining their organisation?

Keeping it is the extremely fun part! I know that an Arisen is horrifying to deal with, but the bragging rights and the sweet Relicky loot that comes from permanently dealing with it can be worth it in a Conspiracy like the AKD. Your character could become known as a "problem-solver" to the higher ups as a character development thing. Ok back to the Scorpion cult thing, it is possible for a greedy leader in said cult use their master's relics for fun and profit I wonder. How would a new cultist react? Will he or she be too brainwashed by then or new enough to notice an somewhat obvious display of hypocrisy.

Maybe. The problem is the conspiracies being a lot stronger than they really have any right to be. As I said previously, why hasn't the AKD been taken over yet?

Fun and profit seem to be the default goal of the cults (more or less), so I'm not sure what a new member is going to object to (beyond morality).

This assumes they haven't been. COnsider that C&C lists it as a major possibility.

I actually misread what Extant Reality said; I thought they were suggesting that the AKD could have the player act as a specialist in destroying Arisen cults; which would imply that the AKD is a lot stronger than Arisen cults.
