  • Coil of the Morphling

When the second editions coils appeared I always conceptualized each coil as a dual process. One that could deal with the vampiric curse limitations or enhance its powers. The coil of Zirnitra and Ziva are the Ying and Yang to the curse of the Soul/Humanity. The coil of the Wyrm and Voivode both enhance the vampiric powers. Yet, the Coil of Ascendant dealt mostly with the limitations of the Stagnation curse, so what would their power counterpart be? This is how I envision this coil.

feedback is always appreciated. Is it OP or not enough, is it Fun? Would you use it? Also the scales, I can never judge if they are good or not.

    Mystery of the Morphling
Why can't a vampire grow old? What returns them to the time of their embrace during daysleep? What power restores it's wounds to normal? Immutability. The curse of Stagnation. The Dragon that control this power persist beyond other kindred. They reverse causality and redirect its suppressed flow to come crashing down. The irony of a coil dedicated to immutability would end up being called Coil of the Morphling.
The Scales of this Mystery focus on treating kindred of the ailments of stagnation as doctors and alchemist but more often like embalmers. They deal on cosmetics procedures, extreme plastic surgeries, tattoos, scarification, and self impalement. They also lessen the troubles of the sleep of ages and other forms of torpor.

    Coil of the Morphling

    Cleansing Body
A Morphling must master the Cleansing. They may keep wounds, tattoos, a stretched face, grow hair, close injuries and other changes without spending Willpower during the Cleansing and control Vitae expenditure during daysleep and torpor. You may also spend a Vitae to activate the Cleansing as a reflexive action for a turn. This allows to heal aggravated damage reflexively if you spend the Vitae required without needing to daysleep among other effects.

    Morphing Corpse ••
A Dragon controls a changing corpse that returns to a set state every night yet immediately decay when destroyed. The Dragon may age, or rejuvenate till their Embrace, a number of years up to (Blood Potency x 5) per Vitae spent on this. This takes 3 turns as a reflexive action which may confer some Tilts, bonus, penalties or Conditions appropriate of the age. The Cleansing reverts the change. The new age can be set to be the "permanent" state.

    Restore The Flesh •••
The Dragon exploits a body that doesn't heal but rather returns to a previous state and the closer to this the better. Vitae used for healing bashing or lethal damage doesn't count to the per-turn limit imposed by Blood Potency if it's in the same turn the damage is inflicted, and it all came from the same "attack" or source. Morphing Corpse can now rejuvenate past the embrace.

    The Morphing Flesh ••••
A year or fifty, a slap or an explosion, returning to a previous state is the same. The Dragon may freely set its age by spending only 1 Vitae with Morphing Corpse, activate the Cleansing for free and apply Restore The Flesh to aggravated damage.

    Permanent Remains •••••
A Dragon must surpass immutability's limitations. The Dragon no longer enters torpor from lethal damage or staking.

    Sample Scales of the Morphling

    Blood Bath
    Prerequisite coil: Restore the Flesh
Procedure: The Dragon, or other creature, takes a prepared bath with up to 10 Vitae on top of a stagnation circle in a bathtub while drinking the blood of an older or younger victim depending on the desired outcome. This takes 15 minutes.
Outcome: Older people age the creature, younger rejuvenate it at a rate of 1 year per Vitae spent preparing the bath. This does confer and heal age dependent Tilts and Conditions. Victims below 25 years an above 60 double the base rate. Below 10 and above 75 multiplies it by 5. Killing the victim isn't necessary, but doing so during the bath doubles the previous rates. The benefactor slowly returns to their true age on a year by year basis.

    Death Becomes Her
    Prerequisite coil: Cleansing body
Procedure: The Dragons have taken ideas from plastic surgery, thanatopraxy or embalming— bad ideas. By performing a surgery while injecting esoteric fluids on the undead patient, or herself, on top of a stagnation circle, she bends and carves, body's fat, skin, muscle and bone to make them look inhumanly terrifying or beautiful. A tighter waist, a different face, all for looks. The Dragon starts an extended Dexterity + Medicine roll with a target of 5 successes per bonus or penalty this appearance could confer to a maximum of -2 or +2 with 1 hour intervals. Perform a surgery with a target of 10 successes to get a Protean's Predatory Aspect •• adaptation with storyteller permission. These always stay on and don't require vitae. No additional or enhanced senses can be granted. Patients can only be subject to 2 operations before they start being overwritten.
Dramatic Failure: A stagnant thought gnarls at your mind. Same as a failure but you get the Addicted Condition towards performing this scale, plastic surgery or embalm.
Failure: The vampire reduces the bonus or penalty by 1 to a minimum of 0. In case of an adaptation the surgery outright fails. The patient takes 1 lethal damage and you the Stumbled Condition. The patient also gets the Addicted Condition relating to this Scale until the error is fixed, as the supernatural forces of stagnancy gnarl at their psyche.
Success: After the surgery, the patient gets the adaptation, bonus or penalty applied to any roll that may be influenced by their looks, and takes 1 aggravated damage. The change avoids the Cleansing. Some find the change empowering, others jarring or addictive. They may voluntarily take a Condition like Shaken, Steadfast, Broken or Addicted.
Exceptional Success: Same as a success but the patient takes lethal damage instead of aggravated. Take the Inspired Condition.

    Prince's Wakeup Kiss
    Prerequisite coil: Permanent Remains
Procedure: Prepare a vial with 2+ Vitae and other medical and embalming components. Draw a stagnation circle in the chest on top of the heart. While injecting the vile on their heart, a kindred bites the patient and sucks the vial out.
Outcome: The patient awakens from daysleep without repercussions. For torpor, the time that the patient has to spent this way is divided by the amount of Vitae supplied up to 10; then, subtract the time already spent in torpor. If the result is 0 or less the vampire is pulled out of torpor. This can only be performed once on torpor patients before doing the slumbering vampire's (10 - their Humanity) in aggravated damage. If injected while awake the vampire becomes immune to daysleep and torpor for a scene. The vial expires in a week. The Vitae in the vial causes blood addiction and bonds as normal and the bite automatically applies "The Kiss" without spending Willpower.

    Undead Puppet
    Prerequisite coil: Morphing Corpse
Procedure: Inject a vial made with embalming fluid and other esoteric components while activating the blush of life.
Outcome: As an instant action, the vampire ages for the scene to become a decomposing corpse instead of gaining a semblance of life. The reinforcement that the vampire is a puppet to supernatural forces grants immunity to any Tilts like Arm Wrack or Blinded and other similar physical Conditions as dead brain cells aren't actually moving the body or perceiving the world. Gain a +3 bonus on rolls where this state or looks may help. Use the Cleansing to reverse the change sooner. The vial expires in 24 hours.

I like this, its OP as fuck but also fits the Ordo themes, honestly this coil feels like it was developed by a Daeva dragon.

I could see something that would double your vitae intake per vessel, lowering or even eliminating the BP feeding restriction or being immune to vinculum...

Some years ago I wrote the coil of blood, called back then the Dragon's Path or the coil of the Ascetic for my players chronicle which traveled to Beijing and posted it here. I changed it a little so I'll re-post it here for easy access:

            Mystery of the Ascetic
The thirst for blood, the pain of hunger, the cravings of the Beast — that is Dukkha, the unsatisfying nature and desire of temporal states and things that keeps vampires from enlightening. This craving and thirst increases with time along with Blood Potency spreading the pain to others, turning the wheel of Karma until the vampire is forced through the death and rebirth of Torpor. The Mystery of the Ascetic seeks to put an end to Dukkha following the noble Path of the Dragon daring to escape the wheel of Karma.
The Scales of the Ascetic's first objective is allowing the Dragon to be sustained by common food, and preserve blood's and Vitae's nutritional value. Procedures resemble alternative medicine such as meditational chants, acupuncture and creating miracle products which often require cadaver profanation, undead experimentation or exotic animals components. This often puts the Dragon at odds with people and organizations fond of animals or respectful of human remains.

Coil of the Ascetic (The Dragon's Path)

            Eliminating Desire
A Dragon on this path is more resistant to Vitae's echoing temptation. The Dragon is immune to Vitae Addiction, and nullifies its number of dots in the Coil of the Ascetic in penalties to resist blond bonds and in Hungry and Starving penalties to Frenzy.

            Wu Wei ••
The Dragon centers itself with the flow of life revitalizing its body with willpower alone. Regain a Vitae for every 4 spent internally, not bled out or stolen. You may activate the Blush of Life with one point of Willpower instead of one Vitae.

            Escaping Dukkha •••
The Dragon escapes the blood lust treading into a cultivated state. The Dragon doesn't risk frenzy from triggers related to blood or hunger.
At this level, while benefiting from the Blush of Life, the Dragon can garner substance from humans regardless of Blood Potency, and may attempt to resist blood bonds without a Willpower cost (enabling to bolster the roll with Willpower).

            Above The Blood Karma ••••
All prey is equal beneath the Dragon: humans, animals and even those of unnatural origin. Add its dots in the Coil of the Ascetic to the limit of Vitae obtainable by performing the Feed Move. On non-humans, the Dragon may inflict The Assault or The Kiss with a bite, or use Lashing Out, without a Willpower cost (enabling to bolster the roll with Willpower).
At this level, while benefiting from the Blush of Life, the Dragon can garner substance from animals regardless of Blood Potency.

            Death Fulfillment •••••
Death sates the Dragon whether by taking a life or the precious liquid that carried it. Taking the last point of Vitae available in living prey provides 3 additional points of Vitae, and does 3 points of Aggravated Damage in addition to any other damage. Furthermore, the Dragon gains an additional Vitae for every 2 obtained from cold blood.
At this level, while benefiting from the Blush of Life, the Dragon's Blood Potency is considered 1 for the purpose of drinking cold blood and suffers no penalties to resist blood bonds.

            Sample Scales of the Ascetic
            Acid Pills
            Prerequisite coil: Death Fulfillment
Procedure: The Dragon makes a few pills of exotic animal bones such as elephant tusks or tiger fangs and other arcane ingredients; then, proceeds to ingest them using the Blush of Life.
Outcome: The pill combined with the revitalization of the vampire organs produce a rapid digestion and absorption of nutrients allowing the vampire to eat normal food and break it into their Vitae without the need to vomit later. The food ingested while on the pill tastes the same yet richer than when the vampire was alive; it resolves the Wanton Condition and awards the Sated Condition. The pill deals 2 points of bashing damage If they're ingested and nothing else is consumed. Taking more than one pill per-day causes severe acid burn dealing 4 points of bashing damage for each overdose pill. Each douse works correctly for roughly an hour or until around 2 Pounds of food are consumed. If the food is raw fresh meat, ingesting 2 Pounds of it produces enough substance for 2 Vitae points: one effectively human blood, the other animal blood.

            The Coal Heart
Prerequisite coil: Above The Blood Karma
Procedure: The Dragon prepares 8 black oily substances made from 8 different animals poisons. The concoctions must be used to coat 8 needles that are injected in nerve points in the body causing a total of 4 points of bashing damage that the Vampire must heal expelling all the needles in the right order.
Outcome: The Vampire's heart compacts itself becoming a hard dark mass like coal. Even while immobilized or unconscious, attempts to strike the heart are at -5 instead of -3 and must surpass an additional general armor of 2; these boons last 24 hours. The vampire must spend a Willpower point to keep the benefits during daysleep avoiding the Cleansing. The heart may momentarily regain its medical standard size and color and loose this benefits using the Blush of Life. It'll shrink again regaining all the benefits within the 24 hours when the vampire wishes it.

            Ghoulish Mantra
            Prerequisite coil: Wu Wei
Procedure: The Dragon must recite this mantra while in deep meditation along with a Ghoul. The process requires to breathe the fumes from burning human remains no more than a week old with mystic herbs and paper drawn symbols, inducing a strong hypnosis which forces the Ghoul's body to link itself with the vampire and transform its very core. This process is very strenuous, demanding a Willpower point from the Dragon to initiate the ritual; then, the Dragon starts an extended Intelligence + Occult roll with a target of 8 successes and half an hour intervals.
Dramatic Failure: The Vampire gets the Dependent and Swooning Conditions towards the Ghoul and the Ghoul gets the Anchor Condition connected to a ghost related to the burned corpse as the process recoils and ends. The Storyteller is encouraged to introduce a vengeful ghost.
Failure: The Vampire loses a Vitae point and gets the Stumbled Condition.
Success: The Ghoul can now hold a number of additional Vitae equal to the Dragon's dots in the Coils of the Ascetic plus its Blood Potency for an equal number of months. If the process is attempted multiple times on a single Ghoul, only the latest success remain. As a side effect, the Dragon inflicts the Mesmerized Condition on the Ghoul.
Exceptional Success: All the normal benefits of an Exceptional Success on an extended roll, but nothing more.
