    Part two - what's a pack without a reputation?

    Renown by Association (•••••)

Effect: The world sees the pack as a unit. The individuals matter less than the whole; the legends attributed of the pack rarely name which packmate performed the deed. With this unity comes strength. Each scene, members of the pack may substitute the Renown rating of another packmate for their own. This substituted rating lasts until the end of the scene. Each character may still only do so once per scene. This Merit is not limited to Uratha. Wolf-Blooded and human members of the pack may also draw on Uratha Renown. This doesn’t grant access to Gifts or other powers, but does allow the non-Uratha borrower to flare Renown (Werewolf: The Forsaken p. 99) as if it were his own.

Drawback: The pack faces higher expectations than its peers when raising Renown. The Uratha must overcome greater obstacles and higher stakes to justifying an increase in Renown. The Storyteller decides what is appropriate, but as a guide, the degree of challenge to raise Renown may be one level higher than the actual dot rating the character seeks.

    Renowned Pack (• to •••••)

Effect: The pack is well known in Uratha society for the great deeds of its members. Just being part of this pack means other Uratha will know of you (or at least the pack) and will likely give packmates due respect, however grudgingly.

This Merit can be purchased multiple times, once for each type of Renown. A pack known for its creativity and boldness may have Renowned Pack (Cunning) ••• and Renowned Pack (Glory) •. Once per session, a member of the pack may apply these dots as bonus dice to social rolls with other packs as long as she engages on topics appropriate to the Renown. She may choose to reduce this bonus to improve her first impression with another pack on a die per level basis.

No. If you choose to see it that way that's fine, but it's a different effect and applicability.

Second last, once again calling on the pack to assist the hunt.

        Hunting Party (• to •••••)

Effect: Though Uratha are superb trackers, the Wolf-Blooded and human packmates add to the effort by expanding the search area and reporting fresh tracks and leads to follow. This merit can be purchased up to two times, once each for Urban and Rural. Subtract dots in Hunting Party (Urban) from the prey’s Streetwise when determining how well the prey evades tracking. Similarly, subtract dots of Hunting Party (Rural) from the prey’s Survival. This Merit works with both Uncontested and Contested tracking maneuvers. This Merit can only be used if a reasonable number of the extended pack is available to assist with the hunt.

"Add your dots as a bonus to extended rolls with one Mental Skill" and "Get one automatic success on one Skill per dot" don't really compare to "Distribute your dots among up to as many Skills as bonus dice on all rolls with those Skills."

Bunyip To double-check: Is the +1 in the Drawback per dot in Territory Feature or per separate instance of Territory Feature?

Good question. It’s +1 per Territory feature, regardless of its level. Having a 3-dot Public Library would be +1 to people investigating the pack’s territory, whereas having a 3-dot Library, 1-dot Mechanic Workshop and 2-dot Shooting Range would give +3.

And lucky last, a nice long one to round them off, and something to define the pack's place in the mundane world. This one was based on, or inspired by, some other merit. I think it was the profession merit, but expanded out for a group rather than an individual. I could be wrong, it has been a couple of years.

(This one comes complete with formatting tags as well!)

              Professional Pack (• to •••••)

Effect: Many packs present a face to the human word that raises expectations of behavior. Human authorities expect gang-like packs to be violent and involved in criminal dealings. A pack that appears as a religious group would be expected to speak on the spiritual teachings of the group, and proselytize in the community for new converts to the faith. Packs with this Merit are more skilled at understanding the role they play, and presenting themselves accordingly when needed.

When choosing this Merit, give the pack a Pack Profession fitting the pack’s role (see Chronicles of Darkness sidebar, p. 47 for inspiration). The Merit’s dot rating determines the advantage.
              [sidebar]
              Related Organizations
When the Professional Pack Merit discusses related organizations, it refers to those other businesses, agencies — or packs — who know of the pack’s reputation by having overlapping business interests. At one dot, a gang-like pack most closely resembles a street gang, and may only be known by the rivals who border its territory. At two dots, the gang may also be known by local police and some larger organized crime elements in the city. At five dots, almost everyone knows of the pack. Even though it may still appear as a street gang, federal law enforcement, major crime families, and any firm that wants to conduct business in the territory knows its name and recognizes the power behind it.

As a general rule, for each dot of this Merit, the Storyteller should allow one ‘hop’ outside associated circles to decide if another group is a related organization.
              [end sidebar]
              • Take My Call: Whether having access to an official phonebook listing, or just asking around the pack, a packmate can make contact with someone to speak with in a related organization. This person has the right reach into that organization for the pack to achieve what it wants, but the individual may be unreceptive or hostile to the character’s approach.

•• Reputed: The pack is known within its chosen profession. When dealing with representatives of a related organization packmates may improve Social maneuvering first impressions one step. Even normally hostile groups will begrudgingly allow the pack a chance to speak.

••• Respected: The pack is well-established and well-known within its profession. When engaging in Social maneuvering with members of a related organization, packmates need to open one less Door than normally required.

•••• Calling in Favors: The pack may draw on the assistance and resources of a related organization. Once per session, a member of the pack may use a three-dot (or less) Merit that the related organization could conceivably have access to. The character doesn’t gain the Merit herself — the other agency may need to send someone with the Merit to assist the pack. The Storyteller has final say over whether a given Merit is suitable to be subject to use. Calling in favors this way usually requires reciprocation. The related organization is entitled to seek a favor of comparable difficulty from the pack. If the pack refuses, it may not use Professional Pack against that organization until it makes restitution for the offence. This doesn’t apply to favors the pack is incapable of fulfilling — such requests automatically fail without offence, and the group may ask again until the ledger is balanced.

••••• Hostile Action: The pack is a powerhouse of its chosen industry. Nearly everyone has heard of, and defers to, the pack. Once per chapter, the pack may use its influence to force its will upon a related organization. Choose which packmate will be the primary actor in delivering the demand. (The pack can use teamwork for this roll.) Roll the primary actor’s Presence + Politics, Intimidation, Persuasion or Subterfuge (depending how she approaches the ‘request’) – the Resistance of the organization to the demand (see nearby table).

Organizational Damage Resistance Recovery Time Resistance
None or minimal 1 Less than 24 hours 1
              Minor 2 Days 2
              Moderate 3 Weeks 3
              Major 4 Months 4
Catastrophic 5 Years, if at all 5

Dramatic Failure: The pack’s demand is forcefully rejected, damaging the pack’s reputation. The pack can’t access the fifth dot of the Professional Pack Merit for the remainder of the story.
Failure: The pack’s demand is denied. The pack can’t use any aspect of this Merit on the target organization for the rest of the chapter.
Success: The target performs whatever task the pack demanded, within the limits of what the organization can accomplish. The relationship is diminished and the pack can’t attempt a Hostile Action on the related organization again until the next story. The pack can attempt a Hostile Action against another target in the next chapter.
Exceptional Success: The target performs the task within the limits of its abilities, and understands that the pack still holds power in the relationship. The pack may target the organization with another Hostile Action in the next chapter, if it wishes to do so.

There you go, everyone. 3400 words to flesh out how your packs interact with the world. Happy Wolfmas, or whatever you’re celebrating.

All that’s left now is to ask what haven’t I covered yet? Is there anything that a pack needs to do, be seen to do, interact with, or use, that we haven’t covered yet? If so, shout out what we need and I’ll see about extending the seasonal giving through to New Year.

I like Territory Feature, kind of reminds me of the Territories book but far more succinct. I'm sure there's something I'd want about the pack and their spiritual presence but nothing I could put into words off the top of my head.

Professional Pack is really cool, totally seems like it should have been in the Pack book, especially given the examples.

But as I understand, you can have Territory Feature (Bar - Socialize ) 1-dot, Territory Feature (Bar - Persuasion ) 2-dot and Territory Feature (Bar - Streetwise ) 3-dot - all 3 separate Merits connected to the same Bar location? And those would give in sum +3 to investigating pack's territory?

It fits, with a raiding crew basically being a gang. There's more to it but the Merit would work for that.

If it’s one 3-dot bar, it gives +1 to investigating the territory. And it would be more appropriately recorded Bar (3 Dots, Socialise 1, Persuasion 1, Streetwise 1).
