While MEATWAVE doesn't get the primal disgust from me that the Maiden of the Maw did, I like it just the same. Keep up the good work.

              The Perspective
You dream. You rise from your bed, and open the curtains to reveal the moon, massive and bright - but it's not the moon at all, no, but instead a vast eye, glistening and staring. And this mad-eyed orb is no distant shape but there, there, right in front of you, pressed against the window, its discoloured and all-encompassing width blocking out all else but the bloodshot veins, the slithering worms that slide underneath its surface, the inky blackness at its centre.

It stares at you, and you wake.

You stagger to the bathroom, bleary-eyed, and groggily glance at the mirror. There's something wrong. You look closer; your eyes are bloodshot and yellowed from fatigue and ill health, the rigours of the long hours you work. There's movement. You look closer; the gaze of one of your eyes blurs. In the mirror, you see it: the pupil pulls apart, like liquid parting into two; the iris squirms as it splits to follow each budding centre. Pressure surges in your eye-socket, accompanied by pain; the eye pulls itself apart, a budding fission that completes with a ghastly noise. Two eyes now dwell in the socket; one of them is not yours. You start to panic. The eyes start to weep thick, greasy tears.

They say knowledge is power, and this can be true; the times when it is most true are the times when it is most dangerous. Knowledge is not simply an ephemeral concept; it is imprinted in the world through the sparking neurones, sloshing chemicals and shivering energy fields of the human brain, both its meat anchor and whatever strange matrices it projects along unseen dimensions. Insert the right knowledge into that organic machinery and the combination of symbols and impulses turns it from a simple recollection into something powerful - a rite in miniature, an occult engine spasming frequencies that change the world. Some say this is how psychic powers manifest, but in the case of the Perspective, its how something utterly awful sinks its hooks into material existence.

The Perspective manifests in human victims under specific circumstances. The first of these is that the human must have the Perspective Equation in their mind. Some humans deliberately seek the Equation out, or stumble upon it in the midst of advanced scientific theories; some accidentally create it by chaining together perfectly mundane thoughts and ideas into its shape. Once a Perspective outbreak is active, its manifestations may also force the Equation upon more victims. The second circumstance is that there must be an additional power source that gives the Equation a kickstart - usually this occurs in the form of unusually high levels of radioactivity in the subject. The above two conditions are usually met when a victim is exposed to a radioactive leak such as Fukushima or Chernobyl, or they work in a high-radioactivity environment, or are exposed to it for medical purposes. Occasionally, accidental exposure occurs through natural radioactive materials in mines and the like.

A human possessing the Equation and exposed to radioactivity does not always result in an infection, though, indicating there is a third circumstance - the active attention of the Perspective itself. The Perspective appears capable of exerting will, indicating there is some actual level of intelligence behind the phenomenon, and it seems likely that it either chooses not to affect some potential victims, or simply isn't paying attention to every potential host.

And so the genius theoretical physicist comes home after a day spent working on ground-breaking calculations and being doused in ever-so-slightly higher levels of particle radiation from the complex machinery in the labs; or the mining engineer emerges, gasping, from the deep uranium bore-passage and whimpers of the great, staring eye that blistered out of the rock and looked upon them; or the lonely patient sits at home, sick from the cures that have scoured their body with energies, and weeps. And the Perspective reaches out from its strange membrane of existence, and offers them a new view on things.

It starts in the jelly of the eye. Infections spring up, leaving the orb hardened or weeping angry pus or like the pressure within will build up til it pops. Something changes in one of the eyes; it no longer obeys its owner, or it buds off siblings until the socket is utterly packed with squirming spheres or the bone around it cracks. Where weeping tracks of sour tears fall on flesh, a rash breaks out; blisters bubble and pop to reveal new eyes rising up. Where the tears fall on something other than the victim, they still bubble and seethe and burst into fleshy growth, leaving madly-swivelling eyes embedded in the floor or furniture or threading their fleshy roots through a hapless pet's flank. The Perspective cannot touch someone who actually has no eyes, but merely being blind is not enough to protect from its presence.

The new eyes slither and squirm. They weep and spread their cancerous presence across the body. When too many share a nest, some burst forth to break and spatter on the ground. Some harden into polyps, erupting as coraline growths that grant even more eyeballs a perch. Some twist and reform so that their pupils are toothed openings, or so that long tongues lick and lap out of their centres. Where the victim's flesh is cut, the meat within bursts into fresh eyeballs. Scuttling spheres dart out of one opening, carried on glistening legs, and disappear into another. The victim vomits; a fat eyeballs slurps up out of their gullet and hits the floor, bursting apart into other, smaller eyes that root into the concrete. Some of the eyes are not even slightly human.

The victim can see out of these new eyes, bestowed with a confusing and chaotic mess of vision. There's little they can do, though, because the eyes soon hijack the body utterly. The victim is not dead - they remain conscious and aware for as long as the damage done by the eyeball outbreak doesn't actually destroy the fundamental meat-mechanisms of their sentience - but they are locked out of their own flesh by the parliament of eyes that now controls their limbs, their lungs, their actions. The nightmare is compounded because the horrific visions of all the colony of spheres still pumps right into their brain. They can't shut it off or shut it down. The Perspective forces itself into existence through their witnessing.

A hijacked Perspective host possesses some intelligence combined with a drive to change the local conditions of the world in which it has rooted itself. It needs to sustain its victim and refrain from actually killing them with the infestation - without their awareness, the Perspective would lose its anchor. It also has no particular drive to 'reproduce' - the Perspective does not feel a need to render more victims just for the sake of it, but will do so tactically for specific goals. This is simple enough - seize a human, keep them in place long enough to weep upon them or vomit a steaming spray of ocular matter on their flesh, then wait for the few hours that new Perspective eyeballs will take to bud on the infected. It's better to keep the new Perspective-infected subdued, as many will try to take their own lives once they figure out what is going on.

With these new Perspective vessels, the originator will usually attempt to infect them on areas other than their face. The infection will cause their eyes to change and weep regardless, but if this can be controlled, it means the growing brood of vessels will have some of their own who can at least vaguely pass for human without covering their faces. These intermediaries can then serve to lure in new victims, acquire supplies, scout, or perform other functions for the eye-hive.

Eyeballs that grow in non-human substrate still give their vision to the Perspective that created them, meaning that a Perspective-infested location may have eyes budding out of all manner of places in order to give an early-warning alarm system to the hive. These eyes will eventually die, however, unless they are embedded in a living being. Developed hosts gain the ability to retch up a fine-tuned concoction of Essence and organic matter that will provide nutrition to alarm-eyes that are not attached to living beings and that improve the connection between eye and vessel; an area that has been serving a hive as a lair for a while will have large swathes coated in the hardened muck of this vomit's residue.

Once five or six vessels exist in a location, they will begin to network together, sharing their vision with each other - and the human consciousnesses that are serving as the data-hubs for their parliament of eyes. This involves a grotesque orgy of retched-up eyeballs and slime, slithering contact of flesh-on-flesh, and the consumption of some of each others' eyes, which needs to be repeated from time to time to keep the connection fresh. If the hive grows large enough, a single vessel is nominated as a 'pylon' and will mutate further into a shambling hulk of bulging brain matter, flesh-cords studded with eyeballs, and exchange-glands that allow it to plug into other vessels and reaffirm their connection with the hive's totality. Such pylons are the warped imprints of the Perspective's presence into the world.

The presence of a hive would be bad enough, but this flesh-warping contamination is merely a method of facilitating what the Perspective is really after. As noted before, it doesn't reproduce for the sake of it. Past a certain point, additional victims are not infected fully but simply reanimated as husks, or eaten for sustenance, and ideally the hive will avoid any outside contact at all while it sets about its true purpose, although it may try and send out intermediaries to acquire radioactive materials or food. Someone stumbling upon a hive without being detected - an unlikely event, admittedly - will witness the utterly bizarre scene of the twisted, eye-peppered hosts engaged in strange, writhing dance or standing stock-still in staring meditation.

In an of itself, this seems to do nothing. However, over time, the sheer eldritch power behind the Perspective's gaze saturates the local area through the medium of the eye-vessels' contemplation. Everything seems to grow a little lighter, a little better illuminated, a little airier; then, as the effect intensifies, the Gauntlet itself becomes transparent. In a strange fusion, both Flesh and Shadow become capable of seeing the other side as if through a glass pane; it's not a constant overlay, but rather from any given viewpoint a portion of the other side can be seen in the lines and angles of the world. Light crosses over; a fire in the Shadow will cast its illumination in the Flesh as well. Sunlight and moonlight illuminates just as starkly. The transparency is visible to all, including mortals. Perspective-Infected will often collect mirrors and other reflective surfaces, decorating their lair and area of influence with as many things that collect and reflect the light as possible.

This transparency slowly spreads, usually covering no more than a few dozen yards from the hive's heart. The sense of airy light spreads further - hundreds of yards, even a mile, wherein everything seems brighter, although curiously not more colourful. If anything, the brighter illumination actually gives more of a sense of glaring or washed-out contrast. The larger the eye-hive, the larger each effect, but once a hive has established itself, the Perspective does not seem massively interested in expanding its domain. It simply tries to retain its control over the infected area, and to fend off interlopers who would purge its influence.

In unusual circumstances where an infection manages to last a year or more, a further transformation falls upon the infected area. Any pylon that is present will absorb two or three more hosts into its biomass, turn sessile, and begin to stretch its fleshy, eye-studded tendrils into the shape of a bounded opening. The portal itself does not seem to lead anywhere, but a new membrane of reality becomes visible in the angles and the distances of the infected region - not the Shadow or Flesh, but instead glimpses of some other place. This third layer seems empty, but bright; it calls to mind a deserted structure, spartan and bare, all light-bleached stone and stark edges. Things can be spotted there - brief, flitting shapes that soon hurry round the corner of nowhere. Sometimes, the view is blocked by a vast, ichorous eye, unblinking and wide. Sometimes that eye appears in the bounded portal of the pylon. When it does, it weeps corrosive tears through into the world. Vessels come to lick and lap at the oozing muck as if it were the most delightful ambrosia.

Dread Powers: Blinding Spray 3, Eye Spy, Gauntlet Cloak, Hunter's Senses (Everything), Reality Stutter, Venomous Ichor
Eye Infection: A Perspective-Infected that succeeds in a grapple can, instead of one of the normal moves, spend 1 Essence to attempt to infect a target. The victim must succeed at a Stamina + Resolve roll with a -5 penalty, or gains the moderate Sick Tilt. If a mortal human being, the victim is also now infected with the Perspective; eyes will begin to burst from their flesh and tears over the coming hours. Werewolves also suffer from eyes budding out of their skin, but the infection quickly burns itself out and the invading orbs are consumed by the regenerating meat.
Contemplation: Every hour that a Perspective-Infected spends simply observing the surrounding area, uninterrupted, restores a single point of Essence.
Parliament of Eyes: A Perspective-Infected does not need to spend 1 Essence per hour to maintain its Eye Spy Dread Power.
Warped Perspective: By spending 1 Essence, a Perspective-Infected may reflexively observe the world and alter reality for a round based on the perspective of its own vision. Any of the following effects can be selected, as long as the target is not in an area of complete or near darkness.
              • It can add reduce the Speed of a target by 8; the prey actually moves at its normal speed, but the distance it needs to travel seems to stretch and lengthen out.
              • The Infected can make a Brawl attack against a target it can see, adding +1 Strength for every full 10 yards away the victim is, to a maximum of +8 at 80 yards or more.
              • The Infected can redefine 'down' for both themselves and a single target for the round; they are affected as if gravity were pulling in a different direction to normal.
              • The Infected can interact with anyone it can see in a mirror as if they were actually present in front of the mirror, including attacking them. This effect does not extend to other forms of projected image such as a TV screen.
              • The Infected can deny a target the bonus to perception checks from Observe Gauntlet, and instead levy it as a penalty to perception checks instead.
Corpse Puppet: A Perspective-Infected can touch a living human being who is unconscious or incapacitated and spend 1 Essence to transfer a single eyeball from the Infected to the prey; the eyeball squirms in through an orifice or wound and seizes control of the victim's body. The victim is now puppetted - not a true Infected, but effectively a zombie under the Infected's control. The Infected can empathetically grant the zombie instructions via touch or line of sight. While the zombie is initially 'alive' it will fight on to its complete incapacitation; even if the host is killed, the body needs to be fully boxed out with aggravated damage, or the resident eyeball found and killed. Even decapitation may not necessarily stop the puppet.
Radioactive Regeneration: Every hour a Perspective-Infected spends in an area with unusually high levels of radiation, it regenerates a single point of lethal or aggravated damage. Perspective-Infected do not suffer damage from high radiation levels.
Observe Gauntlet: With each hour of constant work, costing 1 Essence in the process, a Perspective-Infected can observe the Gauntlet to render the barrier between worlds transparent, adding a +1 bonus to Perception checks on either side of the Gauntlet to a maximum of +5. This affects an area of 10 square yards. This also causes a constant level of at least low illumination on either side, regardless of how dark it should be. After a month of observation, the Gauntlet then becomes truly transparent, allowing creatures on either side to see the other world without meaningful obstacle.
Sour Light: After being present in an area for a year where the Gauntlet has been rendered transparent, a hive of Perspective-Infected gain new abilities. The first of these is that they can spend 5 Essence and pass through a pylon portal to emerge through any door or aperture within a ten mile radius that is currently illuminated; this cost reduces to 1 Essence if the target is lit up by natural sunlight. Areas that are in deep shadow or total dark are utterly inaccessible via this transport. The second ability is that any Perspective-Infected in the hive can spend 1 Essence and force any target they can see to pass a Stamina + Resolve check or suffer the moderate Sick Tilt. After an hour, the target's infection increases to the Blind Tilt. If five or more Perspective-Infected come together and spend 5 Essence each at the pylon, they can indiscriminately inflict this effect randomly across all targets within ten miles - a horrible outbreak of ocular infections - or can turn the pylon portal to the purpose of scrying, looking at any illuminated locations within ten miles. They can then attempt to infect a single target seen through the pylin with the above effect, but with the grave Sick Tilt rather than merely moderate, and with the Blind Tilt taking effect after three rounds.

It's not surprising that there are Hunters in Darkness who believe the Perspective to be a Host. They infect people and mutilate the Gauntlet. Yet there are a number of clear characteristics that do not match up to those of known Hosts such as the Rat and Spider. The Perspective do not take the form of warped animals, they do not have discrete 'Shards' that attempt to escape from a Host body if it is destroyed, they can add to their numbers via infection with relative ease, and they do not dwell within the world - Perspective infections occur only under unusual circumstances, and seem to exude from some other place entirely. A few loremasters have posited that the Perspective actually dwells within the Gauntlet, somehow sealed off until conditions are right for it to break out and establish a 'lens' through Perspective-Infected. No legend speaks of Wolf doing battle with some sort of 'Eye-Demon', though, and most werewolves dismiss the notion of some giant evil eyeball in the times of Pangaea as being patently absurd.

That said, a few Menina believe that, yes, the Perspective has unusual characteristics due to whatever prison or hidden membrane of reality it may dwell in, but that it is not so alien as it may initially seen. There are hints in dreams, carefully filtered from those of Cahalith and sensitive mortals, and a few unreliable snatches of things seen in that strange other place - including brief moments before that great eye comes staring out, when what surrounds the orb might be glimpsed for half a breath. Those dreams and sights speak of something just as ghastly and warped as that sick eye, but of an avian aspect. Such Hunters in Darkness, then, posit that however it ended up where it is, however it ended up so diseased that its presence in the world is that of contagious, maddening eyes rather than its own true form, that this really is some beast-god of the ancient days; a caged bird, indeed.

To others, the answer is less dogmatic. Not every Host need be a relic of that glorious age, nor follow the same paradigm as the Beshilu and Azlu. This may be something else that simply matches the same pattern, but from different origins. A few Uratha wonder if the Perspective is in fact the observer - a being that witnesses everything and, through witnessing everything, renders everything real. This take on the Perspective has it that the eye is in fact entirely 'natural' to the world, but that clearly it is sick and ill - that something has crawled from the darkness and nestled in cysts and blisters, that the Perspective is a victim here and the infected not its handiwork but simply its tears. Perhaps the Perspective can be cured or scoured clean. Then there are those who look upon it and say, this is not a creature of our world. They point to the gateways of the pylons, and the glimpses of a strange and empty, bright place beyond, and believe the Infected are some sort of biomechanical system designed to open paths from some sort of hub-realm, a place that has been rendered empty by extinction or collapse but to which the servitor-gates continue to operate. What desolate lands might be found beyond where the eye stares, if one could but find a way of fully opening a pylon gateway and stepping through? Few Uratha have contemplated what the nature of the Perspective Equation may mean, though - what the signal found in particular patterns of the mind itself might indicate about the Perspective's nature.

With depressing inevitability, there are those humans to whom the ghastly, unreasoning nature of a Perspective outbreak is not a source of horror but of gleeful opportunism. Indeed, some occultists have been known to purposefully coax an outbreak into existence, sacrificing victims who have been forced to learn the Perspective Equation and exposed to radioactive materials. These occultists see a giant, staring eye beyond the walls of reality as a god worthy of worship or an energy source to be parasitically drained; they offer up victims to a growing hive in return for some measure of interaction, or they draw upon its power with their own prepared rites.

Unsurprisingly, most occultists trying to exploit or worship the Perspective end up victims of it, their groaning bodies overrun by a plague of eyes that force them to witness every monstrous day in all-encompassing vision. A few, though, are sufficiently well-girded with sorcerous rites or just plain lucky enough to pull it off. These warlocks acquire and contain the Perspective's power for their own, or at least a measure thereof, transforming themselves into monstrosities in return for the ability to make the world itself reflect how they see it.

A few other human interactions with the Perspective have been recorded in the past. Some organisations have attempted to combat, analyse or harvest it; there is at least one rogue blacker-than-black government agency trying to use the Perspective as a source of remote-viewing powers on test subjects, and a corporation that has figured out how to refine a serum from the reality-warping illness that augments perception at the cost of sanity. Where the Perspective is allowed to exist and fester for a while, those alienated groups and individuals forced to deal with the reality of the infection can fall into cultic or survivalist behaviour, including gouging their own eyes out to prevent the infection from taking root in them in the first place. A few brave souls try to map Perspective outbreaks in the hope of figuring out just what the eye they saw in their dreams is actually trying to witness in the world. An old Kazakhstani woman, her body wracked by the cancers of a youth spent in the uranium mines, fervently turns her charisma and resources to gathering uranium for her own ends. She seeks union with that vast, staring eye that has seethed in her thoughts for over half a century - a union to be sealed with the blazing fire of a nuclear detonation, her wedding gift for and vengeance upon the watcher beyond.

Consume Eyes: An eyeccultist regains 5 points of Essence by consuming the eyes of a living or freshly dead human being, and gains access to the victim's visual memories from the past week.
Total Perspective: By spending 1 Essence, an eyeccultist may reflexively observe the world and alter reality for a round based on the perspective of its own vision. Any of the following effects can be selected, as long as the target is not in an area of complete or near darkness.
              • It can add reduce the Speed of a target by 7; the prey actually moves at its normal speed, but the distance it needs to travel seems to stretch and lengthen out.
              • It can increase its own Speed by 7; again, it moves no faster, but strangely the distance it covers just seems to be shorter.
              • The eyeccultist can make a Brawl attack against a target it can see, adding +1 Strength for every full 10 yards away the victim is, to a maximum of +7 at 70 yards or more.
              • The eyeccultist can interact with anyone it can see in a mirror as if they were actually present in front of the mirror, including attacking them. This effect does not extend to other forms of projected image such as a TV screen.
              • The eyeccultist can perceive any point it can see from any angle, regardless of the actual angle between eyeccultist and point. This allows it to see round corners, see the face of someone who has their back to it, etc.
              • The eyeccultist can make perception and Investigation rolls against the entire area it can perceive, easily sifting through all the visual information regardless of the sheer amount it may need to process; it can identify the number of people wearing green scarves out of a crowd of thousands in a few seconds, for example.
              • The eyeccultist can see clearly across the Gauntlet, or across any other occult barrier that it is aware of.
Eyeruption: The eyeccultist can spend 1 Essence to remove the Blind Tilt by sprouting new eyes on any part of its body; these eyes remain for up to an hour before submerging once more. If the eyeccultist touches another living being, it can use its Eye Spy Dread Power to actually embed an eye in the target for the Power's duration.
Sore Weeping: The eyeccultist can spend 1 Essence and force a target it can see to make a Stamina + Resolve roll; failure means the target gains the moderate Sick Tilt, and gains the Blind Tilt after three rounds.
Contained Perspective: When the eyeccultist makes a dramatic failure on a roll in a scene where it has used a supernatural power, it must pass a Stamina + Resolve check or become a Perspective-Infected.

Also a bonus point to anyone who identifies the primary media inspiration that I meshed with some of my own personal nightmares
for this one. The clue should be in certain bits that kinda stick out.

So, while I have no idea what is the source of the inspiration, that eye is truly terrifying. It practically screams God Machine, but then you add few hooks which make me question whether it is truly the case. I kinda expected to see a reference to the Eye (as, the Exarch), but oh well (maybe I missed it, I don't know).

Anyway, considering that we have been through teeth/bones, flesh and eyes/brain/nerves, I can assume that the next organ would be something about the intestines? I have no clue about the "fifth pound of meat", however.

for this one. The clue should be in certain bits that kinda stick out.
Is it a reference to the Marvel comics villain,The Orb? Or maybe Uatu the Watcher also from Marvel?

Nope It's not a comic or a book.

Maybe it's The Trollenberg Terror from 1958?

It practically screams God Machine, but then you add few hooks which make me question whether it is truly the case. I kinda expected to see a reference to the Eye (as, the Exarch), but oh well (maybe I missed it, I don't know).

Anyway, considering that we have been through teeth/bones, flesh and eyes/brain/nerves, I can assume that the next organ would be something about the intestines? I have no clue about the "fifth pound of meat", however.
Maybe it will be about the Heart, something that mess with feelings?

I don't know, feelings doesn't sound "fleshy" enough, and blood is usually Vampire's territory. That's leaves the reproduction system, which sounds like a kind of a gamble.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what comes out of Acrozatarim's nightmares :P
