  • [The Pack] 101 Packs

    We have topics about story ideas, spirits and even particular werewolves. But we still do not have topic for collecting ideas for Packs. So here you got one. Only restriction is that we use Pack as Character structure from The Pack sourcebook for WtF 2E. ( Most you need to know is in the template of my own write-up. ) Other forumers can help you hammer needed Pack elements if you ask nicely.

    In next post will be mine Predator Kings pack write-up that follows ancient cave bear Totem. I will edit it when adding next elements to this pack. Comments are welcome.

    1 - ‘Bear Growl’ Pack

    This is cave bear primitives cult run by Predator Kings under patronage of cave bear Totem. Think of them as Wendols from 13th Warrior movie or Eaters of Dead book. Pack is stealing human children and raise them ‘as bears’ in the caves that are heart of it’s territory.

    Pack Aspirations:

    Short-Term – Raid human settlements
    Medium-Term – Clean area of Forsaken werewolves
    Long-Term – Restore the cave bears to being - May try breeding of brown bears or possessing by their Totem, for example

    Pack Touchstones:

    Physical – ‘Den’ of pack, previous cave bears cave
    Spiritual – Skull of the Totems original ( see below )

    Pack Complications:

    Stone Age Culture – Pack members are living like humans before any technology beside stone and bones tools.

    Hunting Nature: Wolf

    Totem Type: Hunting Bear Spirit ( Cave Bear )
    Totem Rank: 4
    Background: Paw is prehistoric being, first created when Neanderthals killed local cave bears colony. By death of biggest male, the spirit awoken, taking it’s form. It’s survived and roused in power when first humans took the bones and relicts from its physical bodies, starting to worship it as ancient primordial god. In a year or two, first local Uratha that later become Predator Kings found the spirit – and sign the bloody compact. Werewolves will bring the spiritual hunting offerings to Paw, and it will grant ‘the might of 10 bears’ for them. It’s the same now from the millennia. Pure kidnap humans and Wolf-Blooded to run primitive cult in caves nearby that’s worship generate Essence for the Paw to survive all this years. Spirit lord also guide and watch over local brown bears population, like his own grandchildren.

    Description: Paw physically is great cave bear male – looking like weighting over 500 kg - only shrouded in darkness ( like permanent shadow ) and dirty in blood of it’s victims.

    Storytelling Hints: Paw understand that time of his kind is over. He is using Pure and humans as Essence generators, but in secret he loathes them. However, he is not stupid and knows that without constant spring of worship, he would perish quickly. He then transfer his inner rage on the civilized settlements of humans he destroys with his Uratha adopted children.

    New Numina

    Spirit can blessed itself – or other being it is touching – with supernatural strength. After activating power with touch, next roll based on Strength or Power of the target use this trait multiplied by the Rank of spirit. Each blessing costs 3 Essence and takes one action of the spirit if made on other being. If spirit is Totem for the pack, it can bless pack members from the other side.

    Shadow Form
    Spirit can take form of living shadow, indistinguishable from normal lights effect. It became two dimensional and moves on any surface just like shadow could. Change cost 1 Essence and is instant. Change back to more physical form cost the same.

        I did a brief writeup of what the main cast of characters (a college hockey team) of the web comic "Check Please!" would look like as a Werewolf Pack.

          2 - ‘VIP Experiences Inc.’ Pack

          This is a now human cult, a Storm Lord and Iron Masters pack that was wiped out by the Pure. Lacking Uratha guidance, the totem is driving the human and wolf-blooded members toward a maddening behaviour.

          Pack Aspirations:
          Short-Term – Indulge desires, specially those of a sexual nature.
          Medium-Term – Expand the ranks of the pack.
          Long-Term – None, lack of purpose is the worst part of losing the Uratha. Zia has a vague hint of what it wants but nothing it has shared with the cult.

          Pack Touchstones:
          Physical – A sex-club in a discrete neighborhood. Here the cult activities take place.
          Spiritual – A lock of braided hair, the main symbol used to bind Zia in service to the original pack.

          Pack Complications:
          No goals – Pack members are living day to day, nearly like junkies, focused on the next orgy or encounter.
          Former allies – The original pack had a mage acquaintance, who encouraged the pack to tame a possessor spirit in a sex-club. That mage will soon find what Zia has done with the Pack home and it is very likely he will try to destroy the spirit, could he be convinced to join the pack?

          Hunting Nature:

          Totem: Zia

          Totem Type: Lust Spirit
          Totem Rank: 3
          Background: Zia was born of the indulgence of the elite, but it became quite damaging to the humans in the sex-club that it used to inhabit. Brought to heel by the Alpha of the original pack, it survived the pack's destruction by possessing a human host.

          Description: Zia is a naked translucent androgynous human figure, but can acquire defining male or female features at will.

          Storytelling Hints: Zia wants to use the cult as a recruiting ground for its pack, the more the cult grows (and it is a very attractive proposition to join it), the more Zia's power rises. Zia misses the spiritual component that is lacking in the current configuration of the pack, but finds the Uratha too violent for its tastes. To fulfill that need, it is trying to attract supernatural-touched humans as part of the cult, specially Mages. However, the current human leader of the cult has different expectations of the members, some friction will arise from this.

          Aspirations: Satisfy sexual urges.

          Mystery Cult Initiation (VIP Experiences Inc.)

          Entry to the cult has stringent criteria set by the current leader Mathilde, so there are few cult initiates and even fewer actual pack members among them. The cult offers to connect you with the "In" crowd; but the higher one rises, the more it demands dedication to Zia's aims (at this moment frequent sexual encounters to be feed, and searching for a mage, which given the cult lack of mystical capabilities, it has been unsuccessful).

          Cultists: Former sex worker, assistant living vicariously through their charges, hopeful starlet, jaded celebrity, aspiring model.

          Rating Rank Description (Shares benefits of the Status Merit)
          Beneficiary Obtain a dot of Contacts (Bartenders).

            A bit of necromancy but I really like this thread concept and would love to see some pack ideas.

            3 - ‘K4b4l’ Pack

            An experiment run between the Iron Masters and the Free Council, a hybrid of cabal and pack, more of the latter than the former though.

            Pack Aspirations:
            Short-Term – Strengthen the totem.
            Medium-Term – Grow in resources by absorbing the Packs and Cabals of Iron Masters and Free Councillors.
            Long-Term – Transform into a Lodge / Create a Legacy.

            Pack Touchstones:
            Physical – A reformed warehouse, fitted with comfortable living quarters and quite secure.
            Spiritual – The server that is KPX’s near permanent fetter.

            Pack Complications:
            Something to prove – Can this union work? Especially with limited membership and some traditionalist of each splat opposed to dealing with "others".
            Different objectives – Iron Masters and Free Councillors have divergent expectations for the experiment, for the werewolves this is a pack that feed of the mages resonance and resources, for the mages this is an experiment on inter-species cooperation and the potentials of techno-spirituality.

            Totem: KPX

            Totem Type: Magath
            Totem Rank: 1
            Background: KPX is a completely artificial spirit, in the sense that it did not appear naturally, but it was created by forcefully mixing diverse resonances associated to computing and finance to create a subservient being.

            Description: A silvered sphere with flashing currency symbols on its surface.

            Storytelling Hints: Mages and Werewolves have different sets of prospects of how this could work, KPX itself is not strong enough to have opinions beyond what its nature demands. Some members think the pack could also transform into a bridge for diverse technology related creatures (things like Unfleshed Prometheans or Demons could fit easily here).

            Aspirations: Make money through IT.

            Totem Points: 5

              Well as a cross splat group, I do think K4b4l can benefit from the Contagion Player's Companion, that wasn't what you asked for.
              As an artificial spirit (and/or magrath), KPX doesn't need to have to have a logical Ban or Bane. It is more fun though. Maybe assign one after the computer influence and the other after the finance influence? So if KPX had a Bane of Appletm products, then I'd have the Ban based on something to do with money.
