When Netflix puts out a new season of any of their shows they generally put out the entire season, rather than doling it out weekly. So people can watch it all the day it comes out (potentially) if they want to spend 7-12 hours watching it at once.

The Upside-Down is way too calm and empty to really represent the Hisil, unfortunately. You could say something ate everything, or is making it dormant, I suppose. It hasn't helped that we've gotten ridiculously little hard information about the other world, or its inhabitants
which may be a singular inhabitant, merely with many pieces to it.

Something that struck me is how most of the unnatural stuff seemed to be
in the tunnels, made of vines or worms or whatever. It made me think of the spider-web labyrinths the azlu have in the Gauntlet.

But yes, good example of forge servant and using a bane.

I could see the very empty Upside Down as a localised section of the Hisil with a very hungry idigam. The only things left are its twisted, recycled, controlled servants and its insidious tendrils.

It's exactly what I pointed before - Mind Flayer seems perfect example of very hungry Idigam in WtF setting. In season 2 we have his 'Spawn' and 'Herald' shown also. We even have at the end clear argument on ephemeral/spirit nature of Mind Flayer. The only minus in this interpretation is that those beings are physical in World of Flesh - but for what you have powers like Materialized Manifestation and Gauntlet Breach Numina?

Don't forget all the drifting spores/pollen/ash/snowfsnowflakes. Motes, obviously! MOST of the hisil has been devoured by the Mindflayer, but it's clear the emotional turmoil still generates motes at least.

Plus, it isn't empty. You could say demodogs and the demogorgon are hosts (of what though?) Or even more frighteningly hollow hounds.

This Idigam loves Wounds, as do it's offspring/minions. If I had to guess it's preferred resonance, I would say horror and despair. Making the world of darkness very literal. It likes to make people feel there is no hope, and seems to love the intense emotions of Innocent Hunters.

Locii include the Gate, 11, that field...when that Conspiracy/Organization made deviants, it also made a locus. It had no idea what they were making.

If demodogs and demogorgons were Hosts - they would infect people. And we know that
Will is much more infected by Mind Flayer - like with Possesion
              - than proper Hosts 'I kill human, lay my eggs in it, and use it's skin to mutate' reproduction cycle.

Season 3 - Soooo much inspiration for the Beshilu Rat Host, Spirit-Ridden and Contagion Chronicles in this season! I'm lovin' it!

Going into real spoiler area, so be warned. Generally, Season 2 Mind Flayer is great schema of Idigam with Herald and Spawns. Season 3 starts with great inspirational for Beshilu, but from the half of it - we have sorta physical Mind Flayer in Flesh World. Mutating flesh parasite/ex-spirit beast comes to me much more as Contagion - especially with sun weakness on Billy and changing humans to thinking meat pulp - but it could also be Idigam with much fleasher Coalesced.

                      Third season was definitely
a Host (complete with merging into a larger/more powerful entity, and the two shards that were put into El), but not really Beshilu. It started with rats so it superficially looks like a bunch of Beshilu shards discorporating and merging, but otherwise there's no connection to Beshilu in particular. It's not even involved with opening the gate; that's all the russians' thing. The Flayer does need the gate to maintain the connection with the Host-like monster, but that's not really how the Beshilu work.

Combined with the second season, I'd say that the Mind Flayer is a Rank 6+ idigam bent on getting into the Flesh but being too powerful to just cross the Gauntlet. Instead it employs minions. This particular idigam, true to its desires to reach the Flesh, has taken on aspects of the material and has Essence Shaping powers that reflects this. The demogorgon/demodogs (I don't know if it came across in season 2, but the demodogs would've eventually grown into full fledged demogorgons à la season 1 and the last scene in season 3) are some sort of servants that are materialised by default. When they fail Mind Flayer instead influences and subverts shards from a Host (or maybe builds its own Host-like creature) to act as its avatar. The Host is in turn imbued with some idigam-like powers or just takes on the MO of one, hence why Billy took on the role of a Herald rather than physically transforming when infected.
The gates are basically Verges, even allowing humans to go through at will. Because the Mind Flayer is too high-Ranking it still can't waltz right through. It can, however, use these Verges as gateways for its Influences and other powers, basically as if the surrounding area is under the Reaching Condition. Disrupting the Verges also ends the Condition which breaks off all powers it is currently using, including its investments in the demodogs and the Host.
Will, of course, had a Forge Servant-like power during season 2, which was excised due to the Mind Flayer having a Bane or Ban against heat. I'm suggesting Ban because Banes tend to be more specific, cause actual damage (instead of just pain) and immediately end any powers that ends in contact with a Bane. A Ban could instead be that it (and its servants) starts to bleed Essence in the presence of heat. It simply tried to endure and get out of the heat in order to not waste its investments. It couldn't have Will escape so it ended the power, while Billy could and thus it endured despite the temperature being much higher, iirc.
Eleven is an Innocents/blue book character with a player who out all Merit dots and XP into Supernatural Merits. The ST tired of all encounters she was involved in being solved through the same means each time and said "the shard interrupted your powers, Sanctity of Merits'll apply and you can spend the dots after the end of this session" and then ended the chronicle. I can only assume the player put everything into other OP Merits come season 4.

I figured it was an idigam bent on
becoming flesh, or more specifically, replacing the living with itself, as a better version. I suppose if it was a host, it would be a host with its progenitor right there. I get the beshilu vibe but the rats didn't really do much except act as a test and die.

To me, first half of Season 3 is full of Beshilu imagery, not precise the Beshilu itself. But it's enough for good story inspirations. Going into details:

                          • In S03E01 we have great scene where all the rats from Hawkins are going to the Steelworks. It’s just classical for me image of start – or advanced – Beshilu infection in area.
                          • In S03E02-03 we have very nice clues for typical Beshilu infection for werewolves and hunters to look for – ‘scratching in walls’, ‘odd diet’ ( chemicals ), ‘rabid rats’, etc.
                          • In S03E04 we have vivid scenes of people controlled by Rat Host – mostly thinking about dinner scene and old lady - they sweat, act somehow off and generally close ‘all the nonsense investigations’. The only difference is in Stranger Things it’s from Mind Flyer’s flesh parasite that imbues the host – much more in Contagion area here – than Beshilu’s Shard eating it’s host from the inside. Still, inspirations are plentiful here.

Later on in Season 3 we really are going much more Idigam / Contagion route.
