  • Psiads, Aberrant-style

The purpose of this thread is to determine how one would go about modeling psiads using the TC:Ab rules as a basis. It is very much a work in progress, and I'm definitely looking for feedback.

    Some ground rules:
    1. In these rules, Psiads are built like Novas except where started differently.

    2. No Flux, no Transcendence, and no Transformations. This means, among other things, that you can't buy any of your powers or abilities “on the cheap”.

    3. “Quantum” is replaced by “Psi”. This is largely just a name change; but sometimes it isn't: for instance, Quantum and Psi are considered to be different things for the purpose of powers and abilities that sense, drain, or otherwise affect other powers and abilities: Psi Powers can't be detected or drained by Quantum Powers, or vice versa.

    4. No Mega-Attributes for Psiads. In my opinion, the option to take Mega-Attributes is one of the defining features of Quantum, and shouldn't be taken by psiads at all. However, there are two possible loopholes with this: first, psions have access to a selection of Mega-Edges; and this access supercedes the usual prerequisites. For instance, psiads can purchase Mind Over Matter despite it having a prerequisite of a dot of Mega-Resolve. Second, it's possible that there are “Mega-Edges” that are psiad-only; these should mostly be limited to providing subsets of what a particular Mega-Attribute provides. That said, this is intended to be a last-ditch option: only use it if you can't model a particular psychic ability any other way.

    5. Tier: by default, psiads are Tier 2, and there are some restrictions placed on just how powerful their abilities can get because of this. However, exceptionally powerful psiads can achieve Tier 3, at which point their restrictions are mostly lifted and they can compete more or less on the same playing field as novas.

To do list: look through each of the Aptitudes and try to find matching Quantum Powers or Mega-Edges for each power.

Good luck with that. I've found that in many areas where the two power sets overlap, PSI is just straight up better at what ever that Aptitude/Mode specializes in.

Straight up better is a bit too much, for sure they are cheaper to do the same effect, and each dot add a new power while increase the other powers, but they are not straight up better.

Most of the Nova powers just add an scale per dot, that means on dot 3, you are out of psi reach, and on dot 4 you can ignore any normal human effort to reach you.

Powers that psi are far more efficient are Telepathy (3 modes basically), Teleportation (only on long range travel), Clairscience (only on seeing the future and past) and Vitakinesis (only on healing), all the other uses novas can do better if pick properly, but will spend more XP.

Feel free to post examples, for reference purposes.

Quantum Attack up to 3 dots can simulate PK, EK, QK and VK attacks according to the tags used.
Quantum Anima up to 3 dots can simulate PK, EK and QK control over energies or matter.
Boost, Morph and Transformation can simulate the BK modes, need the regeneration MEdge to complete.
Healing and Boost (with Bestow tag) can simulate the remaining VK modes (no flux generated, that’s a huge advantage).
Teleportation can simulate most of the Teleportation modes, may need some tags (impose tag for force teleport).
It was about what I remember now, may try to create a more detailed description later.
