  • Mechs, mobile suits, and giant robots?

I was thinking of getting Aeon to go with the Trinity core rules to play a gundam/code geass game. How substantial are the vehical rules and what do they include? Are their interesting space travel/combat rules?

The basis of Vehicle Combat in Core is expanded with new tags and the ability to take more of them at the same Cost in TC:Æon. The Æon Æxpansion has extensive rules for VARGs, which are the mechs of Æon. They kinda bridge a gap between Vehicle and Personal Combat rules, providing lots of tags and special systems. In the fiction they are 3 to 5 meters tall, mechanically Scale 1 to 2, but it wouldn't be too difficult to extrapolate to a larger Gundam sized VARG at Scale 3 or 4. If it is just going to be mech to mech you can save yourself the trouble and just refluff Size 1 and 2 to be twice the size or more, but if you wanted to use the rest of the vehicle stats as presented the sizes would be off.

You say its pretty extensive? Is there a lot of VARG customization? Bunch of weapons for them to use like melee, beam, missle weapons?

It builds off of the weapons in Æon, which already has more tags and stuff for weapons beyond the core. The whole VARG section is 15 pages long with special rules for damage, weapons, sub-systems, and guidance for special Super-Science powers for each VARG, as well as several examples. Very direct and cruncy overall.

For example, there is a sample hardtech assault VARG called Flame Cloud. It has an Ionic Whip, Particle Cannon, Smart Missiles, and additional armor. When an enemy vehicle or VARG is entangled with the Ionic Whip you can apply damage directly to the enemy pilot.

Conversely, there is a sample biotech scout VARG called a Weasel. It has a vibroblade, pulse laser, flechette cannon, and a laser cannon. It also has a built in Psionic Relay, allowing the pilot to reflexively convey information to a known individual within 1 AU.

Thanks for your answer. Looks like it might be what we're looking for for a future campaign.
