  • [Aberrant] Talents and Quantum-Tech

As stated in the book, to use Quantum-tech is necessary:

“Q-tech — requires a nova to be able to function. Q-tech interacts with a nova’s quantum imprint at a fundamental level to be able to function at all. Non-nova study of Q-tech can barely make any sense of how it works, even for apparently simple objects.” (Trinity Continuum Aberrant- pg. 229)
“Put simply, Q-tech requires a nova to power it be*cause every piece of Q-tech replicates the workings of nova powers. Even when a nova power performs a function that can be achieved in non-nova ways, the power itself channels quantum flux to manipu*late the raw fundamental forces of creation to cre*ate its effect. When using Q-tech, a nova channels flux through the technology to replicate the effect of a power, regardless of the appearance or com*plexity of the technology. (...) Without a nova to provide the quantum flux to power the technology, it’s essen*tially just inert junk.” (Trinity Continuum Aberrant- pg. 232)
However, on page 240 it states that Talents manage to use Quantum-Tech even for a few moments:

“Talents can also attempt this, spending a point of Inspiration and rolling their Intuitive facet instead of Quantum. If successful, the character can use the device as would a nova, spending Inspiration in place of Quantum points. Psiads can’t attempt to use Q-tech at all.” (Trinity Continuum Aberrant- pg. 240)
If Quantum-Flux is different from Talents-Flux, it seems inconsistent that Talents can use such technology, despite the fact that Talents manage to bend reality to their will, using their Talent-Flux. But not all “luck” (Intuitive Facet) in the world will make a Talent produce Quantum-Imprint and neither Quantum flux, which according to pages 229 and 232 is the fuel for this type of device. Which brings my question to everyone (and Devs):

How can a Talent, without Quantum-Flux or Quantum-Imprint, manage to use Quantum-Tech?

A Talent don’t Attune to Q-Tech, but it can to “force it to work” once maybe twice.

The point is, Talents are not normal people, they can handle some kind of energy, and a very versatile one. It’s not the most effective (or even conscious) way to handle energy, as it open a breach in the universe and let a bit of quantum energy to flow in, powering the item. Or maybe he is ABSOLUTELY lucky and there is the last bit of energy stored that just happens to power it up.

hmmm ... strange ...I didn't like this so much..and again, opens the question Talent have anything to do with Quantum-Flux.
It’s not the most effective (or even conscious) way to handle energy, as it open a breach in the universe and let a bit of quantum energy to flow in, powering the item.
      It may be a solution.
Or maybe he is ABSOLUTELY lucky and there is the last bit of energy stored that just happens to power it up.
But I still think there are many assumptions in those explanations. Another fact is that Talents are virtually undetectable, see the little progress of the Tantalus project. The use of Quantum-tech by humans without MR-coin would be an extremely easy way to detect Talents, which in my opinion is inconsistent with the Talent's lowprofilling metaplot. The same problem with the Gift “Behold the Halo” from pag.201 of Trinity Continuum Core.

In fact, I find the fact that Talents can use Quantum-Tech quite random and arbitrary. Not making sense with the game's Lore.

Talents are kind of random and arbitrary. They deal with probability and "the art of the possible." Is it possible that there's a little Q-juice left in the tank of the Q-thingie to make it work? Possibly.

Does that mean that after they beat him, one could use the Inseminoid's Death-Sperm gun to "depregnify" the area to keep the ladies there from birthing evil hentai tentacle monsters? Hopefully. Can they then add the Death-Sperm gun to their permanent arsenal (why would you, you vile creep)? No.

The game’s lore is meant to facilitate genre tropes. People in setting do not have a perfect understanding of the metaphysics, so the fact that some baselines get lucky a minority of the time and get Q-tech to briefly work might be an observable phenomena, but it is hardly consistent enough to provide a reliable test for Talents, nor can those who hypothesize Talents’ existence be sure those categories perfectly overlap.

It's Aberrant. The hometime of Duke Rollo. If you're not doing weird, crazy Super-people, you're doing it wrong.

Actually, Death-Sperm Gun is something very pulp, at least a porn parody of pulp.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your feedback. And I ask you to forgive me for any possible lack of understanding of the game and its tropes. (and also my bad English).

My understanding is: The Quantum device in contact with Nova, is loaded in real time, with QUANTUM-FLUX that allows QUANTUM-TECH to function, that is, far from a QUANTUM-FLUX source, this technology simply does not work, agreement as indicated on page 232 of the Trinity Continuum Aberrant.

That said, I find Mateus Luz's solution interesting, of possibly Q-tech having some Quantum-Flux stored. However, it has the following assumption and repercussions.
1- If Quantum-tech can store quantum-flux, then it is possible for any baseline to use this device, as long as it is loaded, which the book says is impossible to use by baselines.

If Talent, when accessing Talent-Flux opens a hole in reality through which it can go through Quantum-flux.
2- It results in a direct relationship between Talents and Quantum flux, which we already know does not exist.

Obs: In the book there is the rule of use for a Nova Unattuned with the device. I believe that use is only possible because the nova in question has Quantum-flux, thus loading the weapon in real time.

Gentlemen, once again I thank you for your efforts to enlighten me.

Also, it's worth noting that in Aeon, psions have a whole set of powers that let them manipulate quantum with psi, and aberrants can get a power that lets them imitate psi with quantum. So it makes sense that talents could find ways to imitate psi or quantum for certain situations.

Not really. A Talent using their Inspiration to activate a Nova device is the same as using Dramatic Editing to say, "there is a trap door hidden under the rug." It may not have previously been true in the game's universe, but it was true somewhere, and the Talent imposed that truth onto the world. Some version of the Nova device in some distant alternate reality may have been firing at that moment, so the Talent forced the local version to fire.

Talent-Flux is a matter of manipulating weak points between dimensions to pull properties from elsewhere. Since quantum-flux is a thing that exists, it is a thing that can be affected by those manipulations, just like everything else. This gives quantum-flux the same exact relationship with Talent-flux as everything else that exists.

It´s correct! By using Quantakinesis. The psicomorph, creates a kind of sub-quantum sleeve to reach the quantum realm.

Also, it's worth noting that in Aeon, psions have a whole set of powers that let them manipulate quantum with psi,
So, I don't think so. As I understand it, Quantum Powers operates in the Quantum realm, using the 4 forces: Gravity, Weak Nuclear Force, Strong Nuclear Force and electromagnetism.
Psi works at a lower level, in the Subquantico realm, which would be the blueprint of the infrastructure of reality. Exomorphs (Starwarts, Novas and Aberrants) do not have access to the Sub-Quantum Kingdom. As the book says on page 165 of Aberrant's book.

“Novas are creatures of the Quantum, and the Sub-quantum is forever beyond them.” Trinity Continuum Aberrant -pag.165
What happens is that some effects are Quantum and Sub-Quantum are similar on a more superficial level. But the nature of the power source is (almost) irreconcilable.

“and aberrants can get a power that lets them imitate psi with quantum.”
I really REALLY don´t think (WANT) so... ^^

So it makes sense that talents could find ways to imitate psi or quantum for certain situations.
