  • [Aberrant] What sorts of new consumer technology exists in 2028?

Trinity Continuum: Aberrant is not our future, but we can definitely make some extrapolations. Novas have changed the world and technology, but what does that mean to the average person? Here are the ideas I have and evidence from the text so far.

Advanced Drones - Slider is given one of these by her teammates.
    Faster, better networks
Further expanding of social media and online platforms
Flying cars (not really consumer but)

What else is different? Obviously things are better, but what is going to be commonplace then that isn't now. Has AR become widespread yet? Are drones delivering packages directly to you?

I think the book mentions tools that can be quickly transformed into other tools. Might be nice to own one tool that can replace most of a toolbox.

I imagine that average person in many regions can easily afford a cheap electric car that's self-driving, costs almost nothing to recharge, and can run for an incredibly long distance before running down the batteries. And seat belts and other safety systems are probably more effective. Cities would probably have improved mass transit instead.

Also things like fast and convenient dental treatments. Say, some coretech spray on treatment that deals with cavities.

For the elderly, more advanced sensors that can pick up dangerous issues before they become critical. Grandpa goes to bed, and then at 9, the firedepartment is there because his bedside sensor detected an incoming stroke.

Spray on lights that run from ambient body heat or store energy during teh day, giving light at night.

With the spread of eufiber, cheap room temperature superconductors and cheap high capacity batteries are a thing, so expect portable electronics to last much longer between charges, and for computational power to skyrocket. Your phone probably stores more data in itself (rather than in the cloud) than a modern high end desktop. A tablet probably has enough processing capacity to match the CGI of the original Iron Man movie, so expect the equivalent of programming script kiddies to be pumping out near professional quality effects on their YouTube channels.

Also, some nova has probably figured out how to ruin current forms of cryptocurrencies, so consumers benefit from never having to hear about bitcoin again.

Wouldn’t be that hard given a supercomputer running on hyper-fusion. You just flood the market and crash the value

That's why we need quantum-encrypted cryptocurrencies, like the BankN!ote (a trademark of DeVries Trading Limited)

And thus, like the Chinese Government, no one understands how they work. Not even Sierka.

Playstation 64. It comes with Final Fantasy MMX as a bonus.

Not too familiar with the aberrant setting.

Far far more space infrastructure. The era of things like 'no connection' or landlines is long over. Even in Antarctica or the Amazon Rainforest, you can at least get 4 bars. Only deep underground are there issues.

A lot less chemical pollution. Specially made bio organisms made by Mega Intelligence and such allow the solving of toxic run off from factories.

We know from Aeon that robotic servants, smart vehicles, and direct neural data interface eventually proliferate in the Nova Age (hence the Possession Crisis), but I don’t think those are proliferating for consumers yet in 2028.

I’d say immersive vr and realistic holograms set ups are still relatively expensive but spreading entertainment and communication set ups in homes (note - without neural interface, immersive vr doesn’t create tactile illusions, but there’s a market for... what everyone knows are sex suites but aren’t openly marketed as such)

Home assistants for the elderly and ill. Which is to say, cheap sensors that you can place though your entire house, with a learning system that doesn't just go: oh, she fell in the bathroom, but can say: Wait am minute, over the lats 30 minutes her actions have diverged from the norm--better call for a safety check.

This would be in addition to sensors picking up things like heart attacks and such.

In the FSA, home assistants would not look human. We have seen too many Terminator movies. Nihonjin consumers had a diet of Astro Boy and 8 Man, so they would be fine with androids.

Smart phones could be replaced with smart glasses. We are developing electronics that could be put on clear glass right now that could create full color images. Imagine a device that could be used to make phone calls, function as a voice activated computer, make credit card purchases, transmit and receive social media feeds in Augmented Reality, and knows all that you have done and where you are at all times. The fascist, cyberpunk dystopian ruling elite of the FSA would love it.

Hand-held ultrasound and MRI scanners, or the equivalents, for fast and easy testing. Also the test that works from a single drop of blood, only it works.
