Sol Invictus — the “Unconquered Sun” — was the official sun god of the Roman empire, and the patron of soldiers. On December 25, 274 CE, Emperor Aurelian made the worship of Sol an official cult, dedicating a new temple to the god, bringing the total number of Sol temples in Rome to at least four.

Many historians say that the December 25th date was ultimately chosen for Christmas sometime before 336 CE (probably at the Council of Nicaea in 325) because it was also the beginning date of Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, the festival of Sol Invictus.

So happy Dies Natalis Solis Invicti to all you Exalted fans! May he gird you against the coming Calibration.
