  • A isn't necessarily true in the setting mind you, but just one belief among the Kithain. If you take either Dark Ages Fae or Exalted: the Fair Folk as the prehistory of the fae it isn't true, for instance.

That said, I'm all for having the Hsien be something different entirely, and have proper Changelings all around the world. However, I'm not aware of that even being mentioned as a possibility in the published books, and I haven't even seen any fan things about it.

At some point in time I plan on converting the Hsien to Changelings using the kith creation guidelines,...

I just searched through my C20 PDF for fading and faded, and that's the only mention of whatever process that is.

In the Interregnum glamour was very scarce, and banality a constant threat. For the most part the location of trods were unknown. So a knowledgable fae could spend scarce resources to open a temporary portal to the Dreaming, and probably get themselves killed.

That said, it's not that no one *ever* went to the Dreaming, just that it was very uncommon.

Well, the closest thing to canon rules wise is in Time of Judgment, and that's explicitly non-canonical.

Personally I ususally have them as being the same sorts of things that became Changelings, just more powerful, but I would change it from chronicle to chronicle. They could also actually be what became Changelings, or some sort of gods, or just be humanity itself, as some options....

I'm pretty sure the Foundation/Pillar system is just what Mages use from the Middle East all the way up through Britain in the DA setting. It's not supposed to be how all Mages conceive of Magic, or even go back through time immemorial....

Dreamspeakers are disperse animists around the globe who decided to join the Council of Nine. Today the world is very connected, but I wouldn't expect Mages in far off parts of the world during Sorcerer's Cruisade to even be using Pillars, but instead have something much more specific to their own paradigms, or maybe some different shared system in say Mesoamerica.

So, the Sundering made the world *more* hospitable for them?

Then why do so many things that are in Fair Folk and Changeling (feeding on glamour from mortals and nature, the other world of the Wyld/Dreaming) not show up in DA Fae?

I *really* don't see Exalted the Fair Folk (or even moreso Graceful Wicked Masques) working as a prehistory for DA Fae at all....

  • C20 has seasonal Arts, and Unleashing (but it works a bit differently). It also writes up the history section in such a way that DA Fae could be one possible history to it.

Personally I go with Exalted the Fair Folk for my prehistory. It works a lot better imo. Although Exalted itself would be pre-sundering.

The problem is in the default setting now the Dreaming was created by the Shattering....

Mage has Europe and a very small part of Asia and Africa using a pillar system, which then transitions to the sphere system through the same organized groups. That isn't such a huge change to me.

Although now that I think about it, DA Fae covers the same small region as well.

So, was the period before 1969 also very different? Because changing between the Shattering and then is the only way that makes sense to me, the Shattering itself is too quick to have such regional differences for one.

On top of all that, the Shattering and later Resurgence doesn't make sense in the DA Fae cosmology. I guess my point is Changeling doesn't make sense to me as a sequel of DA Fae.

I just don't see how you could get from DA Fae to Changeling, especially in such short a time frame. DA Fae to Hsien, sure.

I wish you had used a setting that made more sense as a prehistory.

My main issue is I don't see the way the metaphysics of DA Fae would have turned into Changeling metaphysics. There isn't even anything like the Dreaming in DA Fae times (but there is in Exalted).

I see DA Fae as closer to the Hsien, and the Raksha as closer to what gets described in the rest of the Changeling books. My conception of the Tuatha and the Fomorians are basically powerful Raksha, Charms and all.

So, I have similar ideas. I'm basically going to just use Exalted the Fair Folk (first edition for both mechanical and setting reasons) for that and tweak as necessary, as it was at least at some point conceived of as a prequel, and better fits Changeling cosmology as I see it than DA Fae does.

Flicker Flash lets you teleport to somewhere else in the same "realm". Ever having seen the place is not a requirement. You could use it to drop into a friends house even if you have never seen inside.
