    replied to Dragonblooded Inbreeding
In my headcanon, 'inbreeding' is a thing for Dragon-Blooded, but only between Dragon-Blooded and mortals (since this story sets the mortals as their mothers) and the deformity is not Exalting.

Being so close to Gaia, I tell my players that a child born of at least 1 Dragon-Blooded parent, no matter how closely related the parents are, will be born healthy and whole. One of their Exalted powers is breeding, they should be very good at it....

I have NPC Lunars mention it, since they send tribute to the war effort, and might know Sha'a Oka personally.

But my players haven't ventured there... yet.

  • Here are some common titles in the Thousand Scales stated or in canon. Also my interpretation of what they commonly do. I hope this helps bring the bureaucracy of the Thousand Scales to life in play at your table.

Regent - A hastily arranged substitution for an absent Empress. Currently occupied by Tepet Fokuf. (CoCD: Blessed Isle, page 45, but also MoEP: Dragon-Blooded 53)
Prefect - the head of a prefecture. Like a governor or mayor, but appointed in a feudal sense instead of elected by the people. (CoCD: Blessed Isle page 53, CoCD: Blessed Isle, page 104)
    Magistrate...

Wonderandawe, I share your love for Exalted, and your description of an author's interaction with their audience. My seldom-viewed Exalted fanfiction has my rapt attention when someone posts a comment due to said soul-bearing. However, I do want to provide my own slant on the below:

If you're referring to this sticky thread and the unlocked thread about it, the impression I got was that there is a large number of folks that who are ready and willing to write Exalted (myself included, potential bakers if you will), and who needed a little help being pointed at the paperwork...

  • No, but I really want one. I've leaned on the European norms I know best (gender-flipped, of course, just like matriarchal marriage is the norm I expect the same in inheritance).

But I'd be interested in some Eastern variations being thrown in given Exalted's influences. I just don't know them well enough to make them up myself....

  • Yes, especially with inheritances.

It's just another garnish on the intrigue from cadet branches of the family, main-line vs. off-line, adopted vs. trueborn, married-in fathers from the currently hated house vs. fathers from the currently allied house promoting their kids over others, and any other kind of label dissonance that is so important in the lives of aristocrats. And that's just the blood-related intrigue. We haven't even gotten to money or land or politics....

I always have a leader separate from the battlegroup whenever battlegroups come up. To make command actions and represent a tactical head to cut off for the players if nothing else.

This doesn't solve your 'rank and file steal stuff' problem - perhaps just cancel a withering attack's initiative damage and take that many objects instead, with an appropriate stunt to explain to the players that their claws and fangs sought the items instead of their dismemberment... that time....

    replied to Lunar Knacks
    Thanks, everyone, for the feedback.

Saur Ops Specialist, I am also in favor of Knacks being obsolete as a category in 3e (and having lots of Shapeshift-enhancing Charms) given what I know from the 3e Core. My phrasing was looking for something I might have missed that might alter that opinion before charging forward with some homebrew for the 3e Lunar player at my table. An invitation for a fellow forumite to play devil's advocate....

So, given Knacks' conceptual differentiation as 'Tricks that enhance shapeshifting that Eclipses don't get' is moot, is there anything we'll miss about merging Lunar Charms and Knacks into just 'Lunar Charms'?

    started a topic Lunar Knacks

    Lunar Knacks

In your opinion, should Knacks be their own thing in 3e, or should they just be Lunar Charms without the Eclipse-OK keyword?

    Some things to consider:
Does knowing a Knack but not a Charm in an Attribute grant that Attribute's Excellency?
Does a Bridge-like keyword need to be made to keep the mutli-Attribute trees that Knacks typically have straight?...

  • Are you thinking something generic like Impossible Attribute [Improvement] in Dreams: Lords page 68 or something more specific and trade-off bound like a permanent Charm that increases your Wits beyond the cap by [Essence] but you can no longer sleep....

Would this objection extend to any scene-long or better Charm that provides defensive bonuses, not just armor, or is your objection purely about upgrading armor classes?...

replied to Convention and Demo games...
I ran a one-shot with some good friends that I think would translate well to a convention experience. It was 2e, but the bones are still good.

I gave them a pre-generated set of Dragon-Blooded to choose from, and limited the non-dice Charm tricks in these pre-generated characters to 1 or 2, completely written out on the back of the sheet.

Once chosen, I set them on the task of taking down a cell of the Hundred Gods Heresy. My particular scenario involved a minor terrestrial god of smuggling, who gave his blessings to evade the local oppressive taxation authority in return...

  • To add to the headcanon, I'd say the Sidereals have a similar effect if they die in Creation during Calibration, when there are no stars in the sky, the Abyssals have a similar effect when the calendar of Satesh casts a moonshadow over them as they die the second death in the Underworld, and the Infernals would suffer it when they die in the Ebon Dragon's shadow, betraying even death.

Dragon-Blooded would have no such similar effect. Finally, nothing can cage the Lunars.

When it comes to Deathlords and ambulatory and non-ambulatory, the ones canon knows as deathlords...

  • Aw, man. I was hoping you'd be able to answer if you'd prefer to have Ein or Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV take your Intelligence+Lore rolls for you, but I'm off by 4 years.
