I'd say they are perfectly good examples of inspiration for actual Solars too, not just Solars pre-exaltation. Power levels are not really that important to inspiration, what matters is theme and feel. Conan feels like if he was in Creation he would be a Solar Exalted as he is, and yeah maybe he'd be more powerful, but at the end of the day, he'd embody the same themes of a hard-bitten and supremely capable warrior-thief, who is made King by his own hand, and who is assailed by dark thoughts of melancholy at the meaningless of life, alternately sinking into deep moods and rejecting his depression...

Can you guys give a bit of love regarding what we'll be seeing for Antagonists and Bestiary?

I've personally felt for a long time as a GM that more resources for creating fun and interesting encounters against varied enemies was needed and that an online resource for such would be ideal, so it's great to see, btw.

Also will these prospective books have guides for creating your own Foes for games, or perhaps some guidance on how to run a combat? Basically stuff to help GMs is what I would ask for here.

The Boston Consilium is a wreck. I love it as a setting for Mage but as a default Consilium it was a bad idea, I think. That said I do intend to use the Boston Consilium as a trip away for when I run my London Consilium game, so the players can investigate somewhere else (they'll learn about a Runewalk in Boston and go across to try and see what secrets they can discern from it).

Loads of characters are great Solar inspiration without being Solars in power or capability. Conan for example.

The Orders don't blindly follow the Gold Laws

Or anything for that matter, generally. Mages are sterner stuff than most.

If a new Gold Law was found demanding some pretty heinous shit I very much doubt the Silver Ladder would just buy in. Or anyone.

The core difference between the two is that the Free Council believe in each Mage's vote and the Silver Ladder believe that the wisest and most experienced should be trusted with the responsibility of decisions.

Of course, there are strengths and weaknesses to each when applied to Mages. But that's basically what they disagree on when it comes to practical politics. When it comes to policy on Sleepers and dealing with agents of The Lie they are good buddies. So yeah they argue constantly but when it comes to actual situations, they tend to agree vociferously in my experience.

The Silver Ladder invokes the concepts of Atlantean Judges, Viziers, Lawyers, Advisors, Priests and Civil Servants. A Democracy can, in fact needs, all those things. The idea behind the Consilium is to make Mage society livable in and give Mages legal protection and a voice, not to dominate all Mages.

An Assembly doesn't really do that, in fact, and honestly the end point of the Assembly/Consilium situation probably looks like a democratic Assembly of Mages fulfilling the substitute government role at times, and the Consilium fulfilling the legal system role when needed. It's hardly...

I don't think the characters in the setting are morons, which is why by and large I tend to find the FC and SL get on well, sharing a desire to promote and invest in Sleeper towards the kind of situation where they are more likely to Awaken, away from the Lie. That's very much something they'd agree on, and a big part of each order's philosophy.

Yeah but hey, at least they care. Like, it's a common fallacy in political science conversations that everyone falls on the political spectrum; some people literally don't give a shit. The Silver Ladder (as a generalised organisational view) spends all it's time saying "fight the Lie! The Lie is shit and the Seers are total bastards! Achieve enlightenment! Grasp ascension! Let us unify and be free!" and the Mysterium, Guardians and Arrow are all varying degrees of "that's not really our core philosophy but sure yeah I guess, if I'm free."

    The Free Council enthusiastically...

Although Interfectors aren't assassins, they're executioners. So that's a different thing as well.

An assassin Legacy for me would be all about using, I dunno, Death, Time and Space to cover up your tracks. Maybe you have no sympathetic links with the victim at all?

Hmmm so the Free Council were integrating Seers? That seems like it would definitely cause a rift with most Ladders! Interesting little fact there. Though my CofD games are usually set outside the US these days, so I imagine the FC and SL get on well in other places....

Adaptability is Strength, though, and Assassination is a strategy of war. A very effective one at times, too.

Seems odd to me that the Arrows would not find the idea of killing your enemy to be perfectly acceptable, and have Legacies based on that.

Not like Perfected Adepts can't and don't just use their attainments to develop awesome physical power which they then apply by shoving their fists through the skulls of their enemies.

What I kind of like though is that even though the Ladder sort of see the Free Council as being vaguely parochial and lacking respect, and the Council see the Ladder as being vaguely stuffy and arrogant, the Pentacle definitely isn't an alliance of convenience these days and they do actually share a lot of viewpoints that could practically translate into working together.

The cultural magic they are interested in they come at from different angles, but at the end of the day, they're both looking for pretty much the same ideal; that magic to be freed from the Lie. Of all the Orders/Sects,...

The Silver Ladder is not the Path to Victory because they conquer all other Mages, the Silver Ladder is the Path to Victory because they lead other Mages. The real ideal of the Silver Ladder isn't making other Mages serve you through fear (the Lion) or them allowing your weak leadership in lieu of true direction (the Stag) but to display wisdom, knowledge and strength so that others look to you for leadership and guidance (the Sage).

The common perception amongst many fans about what the Ladder does is kind of misrepresented, I think. They don't rock up to places and say "we're...

I feel good that this tracks with my understanding of the setting!

Bit of a query; I recal from somewhere (not sure where) that Astral travel was always supposed to be a bit of a thing when it came to the spread of the Orders and the connections between Mages around the world, and I always liked the idea too. Mages being naturally inquisitive types, it totally makes sense to me that a Mage in Japan and a Mage in, say, South Africa might meet on an Astral journey, communicate, perhaps share the investigation of a mystery together on the Astral plane, and also share some mystical knowledge...
