  • I don't think I'm following this at all. Please elaborate, if you will. What do you mean 'more second chances to spend'? The whole idea behind second chances is the second chance YOUR character has gained by merging (for lack of a better term of course) with the Geist and what you do afterwards with the gifts bestowed upon your second chance. You now have the ability to see those that have not passed on and enter Twilight to engage more with them...you have manifestations that can help you achieve these things. You are wanting some sort of game mechanic that forces the player characters to...

  • That would absolutely be amazing!

No longer would they need the gear they use as they would have manifestations to do their work! Interesting.

I have actually seen a few episodes of Danny Phantom and could definitely get that from the episodes I have seen. As far as Paranorman I have not yet seen that. I will definitely check it out. I know the premise and could definitely see the ties from that, however, seeing it and actually just hearing about it are definitely separate.

I have also seen Haunter recently which was interesting and told from a ghosts...

  • Hah! Amazing.

Well, I just purchased the Premium PoD on this and am very excited to get my hands on it. I have the PDF but there is something about having the actual hardcover in my hands...just...feels right.

Thanks to all the writers (and of course the developers)! I know that there has been a lot of negative (and positive) about Beast, however, I find it to be a great game and everything new just adds more substance to it's world....

  • Just purchased this. I love it. I now have some ideas on dilemmas facing the Beasts in a game and also groups that are watching them without them knowing....

  • I guess this is where we differ. I mean we can go back and forth on what you think reinforces the game versus what I believe reinforces the game. But that can be said with all of these game lines. I have had some very successful Geist games that I have been part of both player and some long running Chronicles that I have been storyteller. They have all been very character driven and in each one, despite different gaming groups altogether, the players have all exhibited some sort of lending aid to the ghosts that have not passed on and protected the living from dead that would do them wrong, etc....

  • I actually agree with this a lot. I love the crossover information in the Core book, however, I do want to run some strictly Beast games and agree that it seems more initially designed to be crossover first and strict Beast games last.

Brood creation rules woudl definitely be awesome too. We have Pack creation, Krewe creation, etc. so this would continue that....

  • Alkesay and Wyrdhamster, I disagree with you both completely. What kind of mechanic are you looking for to provide 'second chances'? Also, in terms of in-setting solutions...that's what they storyteller is supposed to help illustrate... I've run numerous games and in each one, the character were compelled to help the ghosts, not by me telling them to, but because of the way they built their characters, read the rules and setting, and so on.

I don't understand what kind of mechanic would be wanted to 'provide a second chance'. This makes no sense to me. A Game of second changes...the...

  • Yeah I think Odd Thomas was pretty cool too, specially how he can see the creatures but no one else can. The way they swoop around the living and act as if they are sniffing them as lunch

  • sweet! Thank you for the heads up. And yes, I'm shocked I didn't even think the Crow (and ashamed now...). I just watched 'The Haunter' this weekend too which was pretty interesting. I did rewatch 'I am the pretty thing that lives in the House' and have to say it is really good. Its very slow but there are some quotes that are truly awesome for any character and any situation.

  • I actually remember Flatliners when it first came out...makes me feel old, but yeah i love the tagline to that movie "It's a good day to die". I will have to check out We Go On. I thought Odd Thomas was interesting as well specially the way he could see the other creatures and such that 'normal' people could not....

  • Wyrdmaster. Personally, I love Geist and it happens to be one of my favorites. I purchased it when it came out and then the update as well. Dare I say this is my favorite of the game lines. I think stating things factually like 'do not use spirits, only ghosts' is incorrect here. A game consists of what the Storyteller includes. That said, some stuff is designed to work better with one versus another, however, you could easily use both Ghosts and Spirits.

  • Movie Inspirations for Geist Chronicles

So I am a HUGE Netflix binge watcher. I try to find inspiration in movies, plays, books, etc. for all game lines I run (specially Geist). So I was watched a movie called Abattoir and although not the best movie, the ideas behind it and the general plot was great enough to spark many ideas for a new chronicle of mine. So what movies (no matter what kind) have sparked some good ideas for Geist?

Recent movies that have inspired my Chronicles (and WILL inspire my future Chronicles):

    1. Abattoir
    2. Destiny (silent film about death)
    3. I am the Pretty Thing in...

  • As I have been racking my brain to run a new Geist Chronicle, this has surely been in the top running settings for me. Thank you for rekindling my creativity with Geist!

Are you looking to run a Beast game or play in a Beast game? I have been an avid user of Roll20 (Premium User since it's inception) and run numerous games (D&D, Geist, VtR2E, Scarred Lands 5E, and VtM20th as well as many other one-shots). I am actually in the process of putting together a Beast game. If you'd like, PM me and we'll throw some ideas back and forth and see if it works.
