  • Upping this because we talked about the art and it'd obviously be a part of the 3ed of Requiem if it ever happens, and this article brought me back to it : https://www.worldofdarkness.com/news...-pack-creators

And it made me realize that I'd love for a return of the black and white art of 1ed, or perhaps a mix of it and the current art, albeit refined, to be slightly less rough over the edges....

I think baring Carthains (perhaps) they wouldn't for a slew of reasons. For instance, ghouls are above the Kine but aren't Kindred so the Ordo, L&S and CoC probably wouldn't accept anyone but Vampires. Perhaps Invictus too, if only in a way to accrue power and influence in other spheres without committing to much. A sort of "See what we can offer, free of charge" for them.

At least that's how I feel about it all !

  • Well then we clearly have an absolute irreconciliable view of both Humanity and the Sabbat itself. Pathers are not it at all, in fact for me they are the cancer which keeps holding it back with terrible behavior impeding its potential victory....

  • Oh yeah, something I just though about... Don't overuse the first-person information in the books. I really like Secrets of the Covenants but it's really hard to find information in here quickly ebcause of it's First-person narration for all the lore bits. Adding some is definitively a good idea to present more PoV, but just not overdoing it is better overall.

Overall, using more outside Vampire elements for Each Covenant could be great to tie the game more to the wider CofD universe. The Lancea's powers being tied to the God-Machine Angels perhaps explaining why they...

  • What's the point of playing that game if you can entirely sidestep one of the core mechanics ? I don't play Darksouls because I don't like what it asks from players (commitement, the ability to endure countless death to progress) but it doesn't mean that I'd want an easy mofe in here, I'd rather play another game altogether. The same is true here. If the Paths allows one to largely ignore the core mechanics of the game and replace them by "sins" which almost never will come to bit you in the ass or makes very little sense (if saying "thanks" is equal to murdering a baby in...

  • Except Paths are mostly used to side-step all the difficulties Humanities are meant to put on your Vampire. From my limited experience, they were far more a way to shift the game entirely away from horror for some sort of torture-porn or action flick.

And I have a hard time understanding how Humanity is preventing you to be a scheming bastard even willing to have people murdered. Perhaps it's because I'm mostly a Requiem player but it isn't really that hard to build up a pure monster on Humanity only. In fact I find it far more frightening because that's what the so-called "monsters"...

  • Coils were already broken in 1ed really. They nerfed them somewhat but it remains one of the best, if not just the best in terms of pure powers (Carthians and Invictus Merits outside of Oaths/Law are also great for roleplay purpose) yeah. And Secrets are certainly a step in the right direction, but I think it should be doable to have also a separation between ritual and spells in Blood Sorcery, as with Coils and Scales. Have rituals be powerful, well, rituals, while spells are less powerful but in instant action that Blood Sorcery masters can use.

  • All the Covenant perks definitvely needs some rework that's for sure. I'd also like the setting to make use of its great Absent : no Generations. I think there could be something more in here to depict that fundamental difference between V:tM and Requiem, perhaps even jsut in lore or something, I don't know. But the fact that there isn't a quasi-unpassable wall between elders and neonates in Requiem should be emphasized more to me.

Perhaps not necessarily in term of hard rules with Merits and what not, but to me the elders in Requiem should be less resistant to the idea that the neonates...

  • I think they are able to leverage a lot of influence, especially if they bring on some other Sabbat defectors. Beyond their powers, the fact that young Tzimisce are particularly hateful of elders probably makes them the ones trying to revitalized the Anarchs back to their state during the First Anarch Revolt. They also have a lot of stuff useful for gangs and the like with Vicissitude and Dominate, after all.

  • In Requiem Clans are a lot less important than Covenant in the granch scheme of things because the latter gather like-minded Kindred while you can't make a choice about your Clan.

I also feel that V:tM kind of corner the Market with deep Clan lore. I prefer the general idea from the Clanbooks of 1ed that a Vampire will develop along certain line according to her Clan but that such developements don't necessary mean that she'll be like others of her Clan, so to speak.

All that to say I'm fine with Clans being basically a background element (that's why I never use Primogens...

  • If the page count slightly go up, I'd have no problem with more stuff in the book, but I'd rather they focus on more splat elements. While Vampires do dabble in conspiracies by nature, they are also quite insular and I think it isn't really necessary to bring them in.

Instead, more page count on Covenants interplay (and intern play) could serve the same purpose lore wise without necessarily needing more specific rules. It'd be more GM guidelines than a firm system in my mind.

  • Regarding the art, it's true that Requiem's 2ed is rough over the edges... but I've grown to like it quite a lot. I wouldn't be bothered by a change, even a drastic one, but I wouldn't mind continuing with it either (then again, I only own three of 2ed books : Corebook, A Thousand Years of Nights and Secrets of the Covenants - Plus Sow the Storm or however it's called but I do├án't remember unique art for it).

Regarding the mechanics, I think that on their own, Requiem's work well, but it's true that being the first splat and worked in the same time as a blue book has made it a little...

Adding more varieties for enemies in core book would be great, for sure....

  • I haven't see the art of V5, isn't it photo-realist ? I must admit I don't like it too much myself but to each their own.

Regarding the mechanics, I think a general rework would be in order indeed, even if I'm not knowledgeable enough to know which needs it the most and in which direction it'd make sense to go. In any case, if more Clans were added, it'd require more disciplines unique to them, and it'd be necessary to balance them out with the others, of course.

  • That's also a very good way of changing much by changing nothing at all !

I'd like the main names to change to better reflect the varied origins of the Clans but giving a wide range of names for each Clan would be great.

But looking at V:tM board, what I'd like is to avoid a similar drama than the current V5 at all cost. Keep the names OPP, but spare us this madness !...

  • Yeah, I really prefer the new Brood over the former, which was very much "Sabbat" in Requiem.

Some of this original Brood's darkness settled in the Circle in 2ed and the Covenant is better for it. I don't own Spilled Blood so I can't judge the mechanics but I think that the very concept of intelligent draugr is absolutely terrifying, especially for Vampires clinging to their Humanity.

Also, I wish VII had had something more in the core and since. Perhaps not a whole book dedicated to them since its kind of break their mysterious aura bit definitively a tad more...
