Yeah or Forest witch or just Outcaste. It’s not a mechanical distinction (except I guess during character creation for points allocation but w/e)

Will exigents include one or more annotated example charms being written in the vein of example characters being generated in other books?

  • Just as a last note, remember that the Read Intentions action specifies that you ware observing a characters *words and* behaviour, and that it goes by a character’s Guile.

Now, the book doesn’t specify any effect for not engaging the target in conversation or being able to listen in on them, and it might not be necessary. The Book the character is reading and their engagement with it might be the vital clue. But you’re also free as the ST to say “for that read intentions, you’ll have to talk to her or eavesdrop on her at least a bit”. Depending on the group, there’s...

Well to be fair actual loss of life in Battle Groups is already heavily abstracted. It wouldn't be out of the question to stunt or describe the specific action a commander takes as the protecting one or a few soliders near to them.
At lower sizes this isn't really a disconnect at all.
At higher sizes you could theoretically fluff it as an action that is so inspiring that it girds the troops against losing Magnitude.
But yeah, it's One of Those Things I guess. Not really important until it happens then actually a pretty big deal.

Defend Other with Battle Groups is weird.

Because like, you can convincingly argue that the rules disallow it. But that doesn't make it sensible that a War-oriented character would completely ignore it. Like it'd be kind of weird for a character's Defend Other to do Nothing in mass combat when their regular attacks function just fine.
And thematically it's an excellent field of competence for a dedicated frontline commander to have, which makes me not want it to be like, useless in mass combat.

    Hrmmm.

I would say the key "Lever" that you're trying not to disturb when you muck about with Flurry is the back-and-forth of Withering attacks.
A lot of balance and charm space works on the premise that in a whiteroom combat, two characters are pushing back and forth on eachothers' Initiative until one of them has enough to Gambit or Decisive their way to victory.

Defenses and Mobility work on the intention of removing your opponent's opportunity to recoup their loss from your previous attack.

An additional attack achieves this without requiring investment in...

ST Vault does have the collected art packs, so you get the official art conveniently collected in one place.
But yeah, also a cool idea.

Gambits are also unaffected by the Decisive limitation, leaving you free to Distract or disarm or trip whoever you want however you want. Which is great if you have an ally and middling at best if you don’t.

There are builds that take advantage of this and builds that don’t, the main drawback compared to Legendary is it’s not a combat strategy all to itself, but it also doesn’t cost nearly as much.

    replied to Ignoring Aura Options.
Mechanics-wise a master of all five Dragon styles will always be a joke because they have well over 50 charms, most of which are redundant with eachother. Nixing Aura won’t change that or how much essence it would take to use them in tandem, or how much more the styles synergize with themselves than eachother.

You can make a custom charm or a QC that fulfills that role, though,

I can’t speak for every dragon style but I mean, the answer (to the double question of ‘should non DBs take them’ and ‘are they as good as other styles’) is threefold.

    A) The cap charms. These supplement the Form, and while they’re expensive, they absolutely make the forms superior to other MA forms. Earth Dragon is a flat +10 to nat soak and Hardness assuming you have 5 stamina. More if you boosted WP. These are lunar numbers and they last the scene.
Consuming Might of the Fire Dragon is +3 overwhelming. If you have an artifact weapon that adds up a lot, and if...

More often than not, flurries are more something you Have to do rather than Wanting to. Rising from prone, Rushing, Disengaging. Defend Other and Draw/Ready. Extra limbs as written with this in mind is more about efficiency and not slowing down. It’s handy because you can shunt off the -3 to dice, ess actions or actions with low difficulties like drawing a weapon or rising from prone.

THAT SAID if your concept involves being an awesome Dervish, of course your ST should try to facilitate its awesomeness. The main thing is that multiattacks in 3e are pretty much exclusively charmspace,...

Personally, rather than teleportation I'd make them Starmetal Bracers that Direct Fate towards providing you materials. Certainly bringing the materials forth would be a matter for Evocations, but I'm not confident enough in the craft system to speak definitively on how they'd look.

I honestly didn’t optimise as much as I could have, though to be fair in my case I was making a fresh Solar go up against an essence 5 DB, the DB just had far more XP to work with and dip about.

Boulder could have gotten some better defensive charms, but she was constrained quite a bit by buying all of Earth Dragon, much of which was simply irrelevant.
BadassOverlord aaaaah that makes sense. Yeah what a workhorse of a charm! Much like consuming might of the fire dragon in mine!...

On the mechanical side, Fire Dragon has some interesting advantages. Searing Edge attack is excellent, and combos well even with just Become the Hammer. It really shines with Overwhelming damage. A starting Solar could achieve much of what Kansi did just by having Fire Dragon.

If you factor in the possibility of a short Daiklaive with Consuming Might of the Fire Dragon you have the potential of 7 Overwhelming. Fire Dragon isn't overly fussed about Soak.

Alright. This Does take a long time, huh? I hope you'll forgive the fiction, I just kinda felt like it.
Ledaal Kansi, Flame of Clarity, thought often of her old friend Tunka. He was an outcaste, and had always had a serene bearing that she just couldn't understand. His mastery of the Earth Dragon Style was unparalleled, but he never boasted. Even his lessons were quiet. Musings in tones that one could not discern from glib conversation. Once, when they were walking the lower slopes of Meru, Kansi had seen a great stone at the edge of a cliff above them. It hung dangerously at the edge
