    Tarot are just playing cards created in 14th century Italy to play a type of bridge called tarocchi. Their origin is completely mundane, and they have no connection to anything religious. It isn't until the 18th century that any kind of occult connotation is added to them. They definitely weren't used as a preaching aid in the 14th and 15th century, the decks were super expensive and were hand painted, it’s unlikely any preacher or cleric could afford one....

    In the history of my World, Divius Julius was behind the Thule Society, a cult that was one part social club and one part reliquarians. They were interested in the Saxon gods, not the Aesir directly, they desired and venerated the power of the Saxon gods and didn't really worship them. Divius Julius' mantles and scions steered the Thule Society in the directions it needed to steal secrets and relics from the Saxon gods. He gave them the promise of power by convincing them they can master the powers of the gods, but assured the path they went down was a self-destructive one.
