  • Taking your child hostage gives me no supernatural power over you. But you are way more likely to do what I say while I'm holding the gun to the child's head.

The fetter is the child in this analogy. You don't need them giving bonuses to necromancy because being skin-lands objects wraiths very strongly care about is sufficient.

  • Given how often VtM vampires need to feed, that'd pretty much be the case. They aren't Dracula or Lestat who can get buy on one virgin per decade. VtM vampires need to spend blood/roll a Rouse Check just to wake up. You need to drain a human worth of blood per week just to exist, before we start accounting for using vampire powers....

  • It doesn't really. Every vampire fiction I know of includes a feeding scene, but I don't know of any vampire fiction that revolves around vampires feeding....

  • You don't need to maintain the ghouls. Pining for a person you've only met once is a common enough trope for people to not be suspicious about it. Though if you want to be V5-specific, nothing in V5 says that ghouls experience anything at all when separated from their regnant and not given blood.

And even with the nerfs to Dominate, short of being run by saints there's still nothing a government agency can really do to stop a Ventrue from taking over the shop.

  • That's actually not true. In fact, it is so not true that the whole "Second Inquisition" thing being a major enemy to vampire-kind is paradoxical and puzzling.

Vampires are uniquely and massively advantaged when going against governmental or corporate monoliths. At a bare minimum, every single vampire has Blood Bond, so in three nights anyone the vampire wants to make their thrall will be their thrall. But also quite a few vampires have Presence and Dominate. Anyone can be a vampire pawn, anyone can be a double agent, and you have no way of detecting it. Worse, the person...

  • The game is literally called "Vampire: the Masquerade ". Maintaining the Masqeurade is kind of the core theme of the whole thing.

  • The Cappadocians have a big downside of being "like Tremere but with nothing interesting". And now that Tremere lost their main gimmick (the Pyramid), the Cappadocians are just "like Tremere". There's no meat on their bones and replacing Giovanni with them would be a tragedy.

  • I believe your assessment is incorrect. "Choose Your Disciplines" is 2 and 1 dots you get as per standard chargen. That is followed by the "Choose Your Predator Type" section, on the very same page.
That whole chapter just reiterates the contents of the previous chapter....

  • The mechanics are in the chapter and are the primary means by which it's reasonable to judge a new RPG about vampires. It's been 30 years since VtM 1e and VtM 5e did not do any breakthroughs in the areas of vampire feeding. "Osiris" is literally a 1e term. If I wanted ideas for vampire herds, literally all of vampire literature is open to me.

Vampires must have a way of reliable feeding. This isn't something optional. It might be difficult to feed during an adventure and in times of chaos, but 100% of vampires must have a routine they follow for their feeding. They...

  • Why do you have to lie about the old game to shill the new one?
In any case, even if I were to agree that V5 has a greater focus on "hunger and feeding", and to an extent - it does, it still botches the job. Predator Types are meant to inform how your vampire hunts and provide you with the mechanical means to do that. But they don't. The only Predatory Type that fully and unquestionably works is Osiris - they get Presence and Herd, and thus can reliably feed on a night to night basis.

The Consensualist feeds on willing victims, but the only thing on their list that even...

  • It's worth noting that in many cases "enslavement" is a better deal for the wraith than living in Stygia. A necromancer will generally want his servants ready and willing to act. Which means giving wraiths opportunities to harvest Pathos, as they run out pretty quickly and have to recharge often. Furthermore, for a wraith interacting with the skin-lands is pretty much the only opportunity to resolve fetters and move on. Now, necromancers don't want you to resolve fetters, but neither does the hegemony, and it's easier to outwit a necromancer.

    I'm not saying slavery's good,...

Fair enough, I was going by DA:V20 as that's what I had on hand.
I will point out however that the "spend willpower" clause is for the True Faith 4 effect, not for True Faith 1 effect....

"Flee in existential terror" rather than "take a step backward", but sure potato-potahto.

I dunno where you are getting this "just spend a willpower point to resist" from.

Assuming that all methuselahs have WP 9-10 is rather bold considering how rare those ratings are supposed to be, but that's still better odds than a normal mortal has against a vampire.

And while yes, strictly RAW a methuselah can run away in existential terror then change his mind and come back and repeat that until the saint fails, I find such behavior to...

A "badass Imbued with all level 5 edges" is a joke because the only way to get any level 5 edges is through special GM permission. Let alone multiple.

But a lot depends on how you define "beat". Someone with True Faith 1 can force a Methuselah to flee. Does this count as "beating"?...

Because most people don't have a consistent definition of what a "Methuselah" is. V20 offers three:
    1. Methuselah is a vampire older than a 1000 years old.
    2. Methuselah is a vampire of the 4th or 5th generation.
    3. Methuselah is a vampire who does not participate in the kindred society.

As such going by the label "Methuselah" is a dangerous folly. It could mean an ancient 13th gen capable of squashing you with a thought. It could mean a fledgeling 4th gen sired by an awoken Antediluvian, a kind of vampire you can squash with a thought. Or it...

    The answer is very simple.

    NO

Quite frankly, it doesn't matter to the Final Nights what Salubri were. They've been dead for a thousand years. They aren't some spooky legend elders use to scare the neonates, they are a derelict of history that affects no one and influences nothing. They could have been Clan Clown with the balloon-twisting discipline or Clan Soulsucker with a baby-eating discipline and it honestly doesn't matter. PCs are modern people embraced relatively recently and both they and their sires have lived their entire lives in a world unaffected by the Salubri....
