  • The issue I have with the Amalgam powers is that it's far too easy to make the iconic aspects of the clan inaccessible. Both Malkavians and Lasombra are big examples of this. If you want to be a Lasombra and use the iconic Lasombra power of Arms of Ahriman, then your only build is Obtenebration 2 Protean 2 and you are either an Alley Cat or a Scene Queen. Malkavians have it better with the Predatory Type choices (because there are predators for both Obfuscate and Dominate), but you are still locked into a One True Build.

On the other hand if you don't have Vicissitude, then what's...

To give you an actual answer however:

Spiritus 1 is a generic dice adder and thus excellent. However it does cost blood to use.
Thaumturgy (Green Path) 1 is a strong investigation power. But again - costs blood.
Dominate 1, Presence 1 and Daimoinon 1 are all strong social powers with different applications.
Dementation 1 isn't a strong social power, but it has its uses.
Serpentis 1 is strong and has a variety of uses in and out of combat.
Animalism 1 is excellent. It alone is the basis for a number of superhero characters....

  • What do you need so many unqualified ghouls for? Most PC-level vampires have in their arsenal the means to ghoul anyone they want. From going Dracula and just telling people to snort your blood like it's free crack, to spiking drinks while invisible, to sending animals to vomit your blood into their snoring mouth. Getting a ghoul is easy. Worst case scenario - promise a boon to a neonate Ventrue and have them assist.

What's hard is finding the right ghoul. Because ghouls are a masquerade threat and a strain on your limited time and blood supply. Having too many ghouls is just less...

...so is the Camarilla? Beyond the basic set of rules each Prince is his own thing, and the higher level structure exists almost entirely in terms of Archons having the biggest dicks to slap down anyone who doesn't respect them. Anarchs aren't really doing anything new with their Barons that the Camarilla isn't already doing....

  • It's a fine premise for an NPC vampire or a goal for the PC coterie. It's not as clean as you imagine it to be, but there aren't any critical problems.
Though honestly, my first takeover target would be a blood donation clinic because it has a way less harsh monitoring, much less squicky, and people literally come to you to give blood.

This kind of thinking is how the Tzimisce got their revenants.
But for the most part, the reason vampires don't groom their childer since birth is because:
    1. That's really fucked up.
    2. It's not in-genre for vampire ...

Here are my thoughts on the Second Inquisition:

    1. Government agencies can not be involved. Government agencies getting involved is a complete collapse of the Masquerade and we are not playing VtM anymore. Vampire the Masquerade is not Delta Green where public knowledge of the threat is itself a threat. At most, you can have the X-Files where Agent Mulder is a genuine vampire hunter, but his bosses are puppets of a vampire conspiracy using Mulder to strike at their rivals.
    2. The Vatican also can not be involved, for much the same reason - it still holds a lot of political power...

"Western European 9/11 happened and everyone just sort of ignored it" is a really hard pitch to swallow.

Kiiiiinda? They don't exist as player options, but NPCs are still described with various magic powers. One of the loresheets from Chicago by Night has a Tremere oracle who uses blood magic for divination. Erichtho has spirit allies and references having rituals for summoning and binding elemental spirits. Eirchtho's sire, Nicolai, is described as having "showed Tracy miracles: blood dancing in the air and words sculpted from lightning."
So the powers are still there, you just can't have them....

  • Re:NPCs
My personal opinion is that Chicago by Night feels like an odd rebellion against V5. We are back to the days of omnipresent elders and elder intrigues. Ballard's still up on his economic throne, Lodin is still kicking, two methuselah are running around.

So I'm probably not going to use most of CbN for V5 games. Everyone over a hundred years old and most everyone with a single digit in the generation gets the hatchet. They are now torporic elders who have finally been succeeded by their childer and whose rise everyone dreads or prays for. Horatio Ballard has been succeeded...

  • So, I've got a question about The Sacrifice.

Am I missing something, or are the difficulty numbers in this adventure completely insane? The adventure routinely throws difficulty 5 checks at you, even for such minor things as "catch Jackson's attention to get paid". Sometimes plot progression is gated behind difficulty 4 and 5 checks, like with finding Malenkov.

How are people supposed to beat this? The maximum possible dicepool for a chargen PC is 9 (Attribute 4 + Skill 4 + Specialty), but a much more likely dicepool for a PC specializing in a task is 6 (Attribute...

I think a far bigger issue than wards is Auspex. Blowing up a castle full of precogs should be pretty hard.

Really, the Nosferatu were the obvious clan to worf. They have blatant physical distinctions, no Auspex, comparably little mortal political weight (no Dominate or Presence).

Powers aside, I'm shocked that the Austrian government and the rest of the EU are apparently a-ok with the US airbombing a historical building in the capital of Austria. That is by far the most improbable part of the whole thing.

  • But that's the issue. There is no way to "credibly accuse" someone of Diablerie. Auspex isn't exactly precise science, and you can't show it to anyone, so all anyone has is a word of an Auspex user that he really does see a black streak. And in 5e there are probably not a lot of vampires with Auspex 3 in any given city....

  • Just because someone accuses you of diablerie doesn't mean you get imprisoned and executed. Just like always in vampire, who are your backers and who are your enemies is much more important than whether you actually did anything. Always remember that Camarilla and Anarchs are not lawful societies. They are societies with laws. So sometimes "no u" is a sufficient response to "hey, this guy has black streaks in his aura!" and other times you need to leave town immediately because you are being accused by Tremere Primogen even though you've done nothing at all.

But even if we assume that you can use it on yourself - so what? Healing 1 Aggravated per turn doesn't mean much in a fight. It means you are wasting time not killing the opponent, whose damage almost certainly overwhelms your healing. Where as being able to restore quickly after the fight is a decent power that doesn't break the game.

Ending the Watch is great. First of all, only immortals need to be willing - you can use it on dying mortals as much as you want. As such, you do necromantic information gathering by stabbing goons and pumping...

  • Your simulation is all sorts of wrong.
    1. Corpore Sano can not be used on yourself.
    2. What starting Salubri has Obeah 4 AND Fortitude?

Generation does not give you extra xp.

And talk to your GM about using DAV20 Valeren. It's just better.

  • I'm on the STs side there. If their game premise is that everyone's a 13th gen fledgeling, then the fact that you "already wrote out a 3 page biography for my centuries-old Salubri" is 100% on you. Always learn the game's premise before making the character.

    A few other points.

Yes, a 13th gen Salubri can survive. The Salubri genocide was a thousand years ago, no one is actively searching for you these nights.

    Yes, thin-bloods can diablerise.

Yes, Salubri Healer spread doesn't have any combat disciplines. Neither do the Malkavians nor...

You are solving an air-breathing mermaid problem.

The weakest time travel power Trujah have, summoning a historically insignificant object from the past, is a level 8 power in V20. Meaning that only 5th and 4th generation Trujah get involved in any time travel shenanigans at all. Considering that any 5th and 4th generation NPC is essentially a plot device, I don't see a problem. No PC Trujah will get involved in time travel shenanigans. 99.9% NPC Trujah will not get involved in time travel shenanigans.

You can easily fold first six levels of Temporis into Necromancy (entropy...
