  • Look, Timmy Tremere spent decades developing Elemental Mastery 4 to spy on naked chicks. Just let him have it....

Sir, you sit atop the throne of lies. Nowhere in V20 is there an exception for Thaumaturgy or any special rules related to learning it.

However, the official rule in V20 is that blood bond is an optional rule, so stictly speaking you don't need blood bond for Thaumaturgy because you don't need it for any other discipline....

Point of order, members of the clan Tremere are not blood bound to Tremere the Founder, they are bound to the Council of Seven....

Well the issue is that, like with many other things, VtM is incredibly inconsistent about what is and isn't an in-character secret. Antediluvians are a secret myth suppressed by the Camarilla, but generation is a publically known property and also Antediluvians were still active less than a millenia ago and also Malkavians, Ventrue and Tremere don't even bother pretending like they've never heard about Malkav, [Ventrue] and Saulot. Diablerie is supposedly a super secret hush-hush ability that the Elders don't tell you about because they are afraid you'll go Highlander on them. But also the right...

Yeah, but if that's enough then how the hell would bloodlines ever be safe? The connection of Tremere to Tzimisce/Salubri/Gangrel/Nosferatu is far weaker than the connection of a bloodline to their parent clan. What I'm positing is that you can't present a criteria of relation to an antediluvian that would include the Tremere but exclude the bloodlines....

Debatable. An easy argument could be made that using Aura Perception on a mirror will show you the aura of the mirror, not of the things reflected in it. Auras are magical bullshit, they aren't light....

Then Healing Touch is 100% useless for you because it very explicitly only closes "the puncture wounds left by drinking blood." Right in the merit's text. Doesn't close paper cuts, doesn't fix oil burns, doesn't remove splinters. Only puncture wounds left by vampire fangs when feeding.

And before anyone starts "But you don't have to read it so strictly, you can have it work on any wounds" - that's not the point. The question is not if I can write merits which are actually good, the question is if this already written merit is good. And it isn't. Even in the absurdly...

I've almost never been in a game where being conversationally fluent in a language other than "Local" mattered. Sure, some games are globe-trotting affairs and being able to converse with the locals in Harare or Minsk is a challenge, but 99% of the time a VtM game is limited to a single city. Which is why I usually just allow people to know whatever languages they want to know. I'm against background taxes, so i don't make people pay extra for being, for example, a Polish immigrant.

  • There is one in Mage20. But really, secondary skills suck and are anti-fun. Just have your players roll something that is already on their character sheets.

It'd also be a massive pain in the ass because Kindred numbers are heavily regulated and every vampire who wanted a childe immediately starts to complain. Think to the opening of Bloodlines, where a fledgling is about to be executed for the crime of being embraced and is only spared by Nines' power play. And they are not even a diablerist. In a city with strong Camarilla this shit wouldn't fly....

That seems like the absolute worst case scenario. A young new vampire with no backing and signs of the worst possible crime? That's like death sentence 101....

Remember that Kindred do not operate as a lawful society, merely as a society with laws in it. There is no functional justice system. What happens when Brujah Bob accuses Toreador Tammy of anything is determined not by just process, evidence and judgement of your peers, but by the amount of connections, favors and bribes Bob and Tammy have....

Yes, but it doesn't make Path checks easier or Torment checks easier or anything checks easier. As written the merit does absolutely nothing. If me and my ST didn't know about the existence of this merit and I wrote in my character bio "and has a tight bond with his family" - it'd be the exact same effect. Except the merit exists so now I implicitly can't have a loving family unless I fork out points for it. Like how having a trucker license is a merit in Demon and not just a function of character's backstory. Like how in Mage you need to specifically buy doctor license as a Background...

Okay, I'm game. What happens? How does this influence the game? What stories would that generate and how would it affect your average 13th gen neonate PC?...

Giovanni's bite is painful, but they still have full effects of the Kiss and the ability to seal wounds. Same goes for Lamia....

It's not. oWoD is full of garbage merits. Demon the Fallen is the worst offender with merits that let you have a truck driving license or three point merit that gives you a loving family. A loving family that explicitly will not help you in any way unless you buy them as allies. Three goddamn points.
