  • Stolen! I like it a lot! ^^
I especially love how you get the player involved in deciding the "cost", but leave an equally good alternative path open should they not be able to come up with anything. The catch is likewise excellent. Cool picture, too. ^^
For the mien: I couldn't tell if you meant all onlookers see this while active. By RAW, it would only normally be onlookers who can see through the Mask.
But if you're ok with it being slightly off-RAW, then I'm ok with it. ^^

  • Haha, amusing that it just happened to be a term that ended up working! I thought it was "Flare" because the Changeling is "Flaring" his nature up, letting his kith power out, etc. ^^

I imagined that was the case! ^^ I like most of those descriptions, so there's some value in tweaking the rules a bit to fit. Though you can also tweak the fluff, obviously. I'm pretty partial to the Manikin suggestion though, I'd definitely consider that one. ;D...

  • I don't think threads that exist as repositories for homebrew content can really be "necro'd" as such, so continuing the 2019 thread on this (http://forum.theonyxpath.com/forum/m...th-conversions) would have been acceptable I think. But can't fault you for being extra cautious, and I might be wrong, too.

Reading through them, I'll give my thoughts on any I think could use some changes, comparing them to Inodiv's take as well. ^^ I've never seen the original playtest material of these, so I'm ignoring its existence completely; I don't think it matters much what the original...

  • Shamelessly stealing math from here for a moment:http://forum.theonyxpath.com/forum/m...8759#post38759

    In other words:

Dice trick: Avg value of flat defense opponent has this dice trick, per point / Avg value of rolling dodge if you have this dice trick, per point

    Without 10 again: 0.3/0.6
    10 again: 0.33/0.66
    9 again: 0.375/0.75
    8 again: 0.429/0.858

    ROTE
    without 10 again: 0.51/1.02
    10 again: 0.56/1.12
    9 again: 0.6375/1.275
    8 again: 0.729/1.458

So find your opponent's dice trick...

  • No, I think that's correct.

Removing one dice from the opponent is statistically the same as rolling 1 dice yourself and removing successes from the opponent if you score a success. But Dodging gives you twice the amount of dice, so it's just simply twice as good on average. It has higher variance, though.

One thing that could muddy the field is cases where opponents have dice tricks. If someone can attack as a Rote action, it's probably going to be better to let your defense reduce their dicepool, but I haven't done the math on that, just my gut feeling. With 8-Again...

  • In addition to what Satchel says, if you try to "physics" this contract too much, you'd "logically" end up with a Changeling hanging in empty space the very next moment as the planet instantly zips away from them. ^^...

I meant to imply that there's sufficient leeway to rule it that way if you wish, but indeed, on re-reading I must admit my intentions did not come across clearly. ^^...

  • Well for instance in Vampire:

So it says that "many spontaneously manifest new Disciplines", but it doesn't say what those others who aren't included in "many" do. Probably they need a teacher? Maybe they just need to practice? That's pretty vague!

And like I said: "most of the time it seems to boil down to not needing a teacher if it's 'favoured'" => Applies exactly here, as you yourself quoted, so I don't think we're in disagreement? ^^

Perhaps I shouldn't have said it is "always" a bit vague, but it's...

  • It's always a bit vague in any splat, most of the time it seems to boil down to not needing a teacher if it's "favoured". I'd see it as the Changeling looking into their own nature and communing with aspects of existence to figure out existing Contracts fashioned by the True Fae, and then figuring out how to tap into them. This might involve oneiromancy, travelling the hedge, maybe even meditating for some, but all of that could be done off-screen and the effort is represented by the xp spent I suppose....

The new Regalia are going to be different than the ones who have no matter what. Either they will be the only ones that no Seeming has favoured by default, or something else, but they'll break the mold in some way or the other.

I don't see prerequisites as infringing the freedom of choice. After all, we have plenty of merits with prereqs, and plenty of prereqs in other splats and aspects of the game. I don't see Onyx Path as favouring "freedom of choice" to the exclusion of everything else, rather you are free to choose within the narrative dimensions set by the splat and...

  • I think an Entitlement isn't just what you do, but what you are. It's like your role in a grand fairytale. And few if any characters in a fairytale ever have two roles. So I wouldn't do it, but YMMV. ^^

Kinda agree there! It's why for Changeling I like to play a short session with each of my players "prior to Durance" when they're all still humans, just a "day in the life of" with some mundane concerns and problems, promises for the future, hopes, dreams... and then the session ends with the Keeper snatching them. That's where that ends, and then next time we play it'll be after their escape.

You can just have the local Freehold have a sort of rule where they quickly try to find new arrivals, bring them to some safe place when they're still "fresh",...

Surely a True Fae would be so well versed in the magic of the True Fae that he can just disband or re-absorb the Fetch? The Fetch only has its powers by link to the Changeling after all, so once that Changeling becomes True Fae, it has a direct link to work its power directly on the Fetch, one would think. While a Fetch does get stronger as the Changeling gets stronger, it's not like they get the "full package" so to speak, so...

Of course, since such an event is likely to be the defining moment of a campaign, whatever works for your story, works!

Yeah, if we assume they're full-length Regalia, 6 seems like too much.

Having a few Regalia that no Seeming favours and thus can only be favoured if you pick it as your second slot feels slightly odd but would work.

Still think some sort of requirement for access to them could work, but something a bit more straightforward than "combination of two other regalia"....

It is a lot, that's for certain! For that reason I probably wouldn't do it! ^^

But note that if you add 45-75 Contracts in any way, the majority of those won't be used the majority of the time, since you only have so much Contracts you can get with your xp.
The fact that you couldn't buy some (or couldn't get a discount on some) will have a far lower impact than just the basic fact that there's not enough XP to get more than a handful to begin with. :P

And yeah, you're right, Regalia are already pretty broad, that's for certain. Makes me wonder how they'll fit...

  • As far as I can see, those 10 examples are fully statted out, they have attributes, skills, etc... ^^ There doesn't seem to be a simpler system presented.

I like having a mix of approaches. For totally unexpected encounters, or throw-away ones, obviously you can just slap a dicepool on it and call it a day, without trouble. But I like statting out all NPCs that PCs have contact with on a regular basis in more detail than that. But not so much detail that I can't go through like 10 of them in an hour every so often, yet more detail so that a pattern of "3 dice +/- this"...

Hmmm! Now that would be interesting. I can't think of any Seeming theme they could still do, though!

Maybe combination Regalia, that you can only learn Contracts from if you have 2 specific other Regalia as favoured? ^^ You'd end up with a lot of combinations though! But I guess you'd need far less Contracts per combo-Regalia, only 3-5 or so....

New Regalia? Waaaaat! Mind blown. ;o
And I saw it moved from second draft to "development" recently... pretty hype now!...

Two different Seemings using the same Contract will have a different Seeming bonus, so they're not exactly the same. Like the book says, the seeming bonuses given are only examples, and you should feel free to make one Seeming bonus for each Seeming per Contract.
I'm doing that right now, but I still have a lot of work to finish it.

Also, when playing Vampire, you get only 1 Clan discipline and 2 "common" disciplines, so you always share a lot of your powers. In practice though this has never seemed to bother anyone in my groups. It reinforces a feeling that everyone...
