  • Shepherd, this response is phenomenal! I think you alleviated the need/concern I would have about being a member of House Scathach present at court. Your perspective on running this in games has settled any concerns or issues I might have. Part of it was from their fluff (it involved a Scathach detained by a Gwydion, Fiona, and Balor, though admittedly I believe this was for a crime during the Shattering perpetrated by the Scathach). I just wanted to make sure that at the end of the day, it's not going to be hugely disruptive to the group if a Scathach shows up with them to court. Yes, it could...

  • Hiding House Affiliation (House Scathach): if possible, how to, and which one

    Hi All,

I am writing as a fairly new CtD player who has read most (though not all) of the books, but has not played yet. Considering a House Scathach character concept, and the ST so far is fine with it so far with our other players' suggested kith and concept choices. No other players have voiced an interested in a Sidhe character at all. I am worried about the political issues of the character's house affiliation, especially if this character ends up being the only Sidhe in the group. We might have a Troll with Metamorphosis 3 who the ST believes could serve as both our group leader...

  • Words of wisdom here. I am not a fan of political backstabbing, but rallying together groups of Mages with different outlooks toward a unified goal as underdogs against the Technocracy has generally been a fun concept to me (when I'm not playing a Technocrat, of course). If the Order of Reason/Technocracy metaplot is going to remain (a metaplot I personally enjoy), then I would keep in mind the above comments from Totentanz.

Dare I suggest that you try CofD's Mage: the Awakening 2nd Edition if you want to strip out Ascension's entire metaplot (including reality being shaped by belief)?...

  • I can see NPCs being easier to integrate, but mixing various PCs from various splats can work well with a bit of ST and player coordination. The first thing to do would be to determine which is the 'main game' or splat. If it's Changeling, then your Werewolf tribes probably should be Fianna, maybe the Silver Fangs, possibly the Children of Gaia, or one other tribes that gets mentioned a fair amount in Changeling source material that currently I don't recall. And their choice of powers should include abilities that enable them to interact easily with Changelings and their world. A similar thing...

  • You might need to modify it. Hopefully Book of Secrets handles it, because M20 made some oblique references to things that didn't make sense without some context from Forged by Dragon's Fire. The note above on Prime being different for thresholds at crafting the various types of items is important to keep in mind.

Until Book of Secrets is out (hoepfully soon!), I think you can carefully adjust Forged by Dragon's Fire into M20.

  • Ah, so I imagine that C20 does not permit soaking lethal without armor or some other supernatural ability (or perhaps some kithain, such as Trolls, can soak lethal)?

  • I will acknowledge that CtD is often forgotten about in crossover discussions elsewhere. That said, I have had a crossover game involving mostly cWoD Mages, nWoD Vampires, nWoD Werewolves, and changelings (a little bit) based on CtD. We had very few/no problems. There was also a homebrewed "Highlander" style Immortal character (with enemies of course). I will note that the mechanics were converted to nWoD (first edition, before it got renamed CofD)

I realize that the conventional attitude on these forums and reddit is that crossovers are terrible for cWoD, but I have never...

  • These are all really, really helpful responses. Thank you so much! I am hoping the timing works out so we can get C20 in our hands before starting play. I will google around for any helpful C20 previews, including any specifically mentioned here. Thank again.

  • Character Creation: avoiding common pitfalls as a new player

    Hi all,

I am a long-time Mage player (both oWoD and nWoD), with a minor amount of experience with Werewolf (primarily nWoD) and Vampire (a bit of oWoD but mostly nWoD). We might be transitioning to a Changeling game for a while (likely using the 2nd edition book and possibly other resources unless C20 hits relatively soon). I wanted to reach out about important considerations for creating Changeling characters from a mechanical perspective, with a focus on key things to avoid (especially if they might seem like decent ideas at first glance). To guide discussion, I will give a Mage...
