  • I think it could be more like Wild Weasel fighters. The PCs are bait, someone more powerful will get the kill. But I like your way of thinking; PCs as x-factor. Noone says that after a fight like Nictuku won't be an easy target for ambitious neonates (just like you said about Monty and Mithras)....

That's something I've been thinking about. But do you give players a chance to save the world and if yes how hard it will be?...

  • 100% agree. It's not the ST that sends the PCs for an adventure. He just gives them the situation. It's up to them what to do....

  • Ok, I agree with that. That's why I used the word sometimes. But if we ignore canon events that happens between NPCs what will we have? Either complete storyline chaos or players ending as elders in Bridgeport trying to make this city great.

That's why I think that sometimes PCs have to stand and watch. Of course I once saw players ignoring GM. I was invited for a Fading Suns game by my friend to watch. His PCs met a monk with unorthodox point of view. The PCs started to argue with him, but as they had also different points of view so started to argue between themselves. They were...

  • So why are you still here? Why do you even play? Sometimes it is the best you can do. First of all I think that it's not the ST that sends the PCs after Ur-Shulgi. They do that to themselves πŸ˜‰. Second sometimes it's best to sit on your ass and watch. Remember, in WoD there's a lot of moments in which you just watch metaplot happening: Zhyzak killing Albrecht Morningkill, Marianna fighting Augustus Giovanni. On the other hand would you allow your PCs kill p. ex. Myca Vycos? One of my PCs tried that during Transylvania Chronicles part I. Almost any universe have some kind of iconic characters...

  • I don't think it's a bad writing. For me it's one of the options. Of course if the player's characters try to intervene they have to face the consequences. Heck, I would even allow to use dices and let the fate decide. Just like I did with Samuel Height. During my game he was killed by a lucky Klaive throw in Valkenburg Foundation. But I like stories during which PCs has no chance to win, except pure luck. But if they see the trap they could find NPCs who can save the day. Just like in real Life. You could not be able to beat the biggest bully in your school but you can find someone who can. Or...

Recently I'm trying to make either ToJ and 20th anniversary edition canon in my games. As far as I know parts of ToJ are canon in 20th anniversary edition (Avatar Storm, 6th Great Maelstorm) and some are not (rising of the Antideluvians). As I have too many players to form one pack/coterie/cahal I thought about a great campaign for a few groups, which adventures will be interwined and there will be some focal points during which you PCs will decide the fate of the world (like who will get Sargon Fragments, will Fanum will be saved or will Samuel Height get the blood of Shaitan). If they succeed...

  • Yeah, I like it too. Very powerful Ventrue killed by a neonate. Just like in "With a single spell". Just like in one of my stories. I must admit that I use dices then. A very weak mortal PC (physical 2, no combat abilities) was being chased by a 9th generation Gangrel through the woods. Gangrel attacked using his fists (he needed this mortal alive) with a 9 dices pool. And botched staking himself with a branch. PC tried to rescue him but he didn't find the pulse so he left him there and escaped. And some time later the sun rised......

To be honest many of NPCs have their own businesses. And if you ST agrees you could even create a starting character who owns a company so powerful that Pentex will target it for a next takeover.

Edit. I've just found out that Pentex sometimes creates rivals for Pentex deliberately. For example NikNak Computers (a rival of Sunburst).

Montgomery "Monty" Coven a.k.a the new Mithras founded Syndexioi, a cybersecurity company which he use to fight with the Ventrue and to search Cainites with no particular sect allegiance. I think it makes Syndexioi Pentex and Technocracy rival either.

  • I think that Mithras isn't weird. He just lacked oposition. And is/was a little overconfident. Helena has Menele, whom she treatens equal in generation, age and power. The trinity in New England reminds me Orwell's "1984": the two fighting each side by side against the third and then one of them makes a tag. And balance of power maintains this way. As for Mithras the only real oposition for him was Robin Leeland, a little younger and weaker but with more contacts around the world. And one more thing: Mithras was embraced by Veddartha, who possibly remembers Second City. And remember,...

  • Your description of Mithras as power behind the throne reminds me a LARP that I've been playing in my hometown about 15 years ago. The Tremere Prince was all right but it some neonate (or even ancilla or elder) try to mess with the status quo or The Masquerade two "reality moderators" appear: mother of the Prince and 800 years old, very powerful Salubri (!).

  • Ok, to add something to your ideas:

    1) If they are power gamers they propably barely notice the comment about saving lives with Mother's Touch. Plus was this Shadow Lord pure or tainted? Id tainted there's no need to heal him. If pure then SL will propably ignore character's actions (this particular SL was weak so he didn't deserve to live), most tribes will cheer them up (SLs aren't the most popular tribe) so the only negative things that can affect their characters come from Children of Gaia and maybe Stargazers tribes. Of course this SL could have family and friends. And leaving...

  • I do not feel unfortunate. Au contraire it amuses me. And get me tons of funny stories to tell. Ok, I prefere my plots to be unveiled and resolved by the powers of mind, charisma and sometimes force but I am a "sandbox style" ST and if my players want to use the latter only that's their right. They only have to deal with the consequences. Some of them endure it and are still my players some of them not and find another GM, more of their tastes.

Of course I've also met creative players. Once I run Warhammer campaign for a group of average age 11. Their characters ended one...

On the other hand, as it was written in "A fatal case": "Remember, Stalin and Hitler were mortals"....

  • If it's true. As far as I know there are many legends about Villon. And, based on an asumption that entire WoD is full of legends and half-truths (Minos, Rasputin, 3rd Generation), every version of Villon (from TC, World of Darkness and France by Night) can be true. Or some of them. Or none....
