  • I think you missed that the idea was that you don't die in the past in this scheme, you set yourself up to die right after the spell ends. You jump off the building, then in midair the Duration runs out and you jump back to the present, all your changes are Lasting; including your body plummeting to it's death.

You would return to a present where you died in the past (but after the time you traveled to)....

  • Oh certainly, I think that the last points about companies and rights and such is a confusing mess that is really a separate issue from whether or not people identify the editions of either game set correctly.

  • My hope for 2e is that Synergy can be made to re-enforce this concept. Second Chances for the Bound, second chances for the Geist, second chances for Ghosts, etc.

  • Oh for sure, it is fine to say that they are related games, or as has been said a 'spiritual successor'. No one is denying that.

Personally, I was just saying that people who call Requiem the second edition of Masquerade are not the people who would really now since they don't seem to know that there were those other editions (by that logic, Requiem would be the 4th edition of Vampire, not the second). That tells me that the only they they count as a new edition IS the nomenclature and large-scale rules changes despite that not being the case as far as the publisher and owner are...

  • I just want to say, that doesn't make much sense since there were three editions of Masquerade before Requiem even came out. The point being that people who ignore editions of a game are not the most reliable source for how new games that are spiritual successors should be treated....

To bring somewhat back to Chronicles, Time Travel in Mage: The Awakening follows this to a degree (in 2nd Ed at least). Linear Time is part of the Lie, which is why Mages can manipulate it. Mages are explicitly immune to their own temporal paradoxes and there is a spell that would shield you from all time travel caused revisions to history....

At this point, what is on topic?

We could go back to discussing the God-Machine and its implications on science, technology and the supernatural....

Oh yeah, I should add. I ran and played in a complete 'super-friends' type game in 1st edition and plan to do another in 2nd. But I know that is not how these games are designed to be played. So I know that balance will be something that if I want it's on me.

I think it comes down to what one means by crossover, are the games using compatible rules so you can include each other? Yes. Do the splats basically work like DnD races and a mixed party is expected? Absolutely not....

I know you have commented on that before. I don't mean to harp on it or anything. Just trying to be sure Nyrufa gets my point....

I'm not sure what you said here that contradicts anything I said. You are referencing detail;s of the cosmology that I left vague (on purpose since Nyrufa is not familiar with Awakening) but I spoke about the process a mage goes through in the moment of casting a spell, which is based on the cosmology that you are referencing but that wasn't the point. I was describing the process of forming an Imago....

At the very least, their 'Souls' are no longer connected to the Temenos though.

The difference there I would say, is that in Awakening you need to be able to envision the post in its entirety in your mind, every letter, every space, every punctuation BEFORE it can become reality. You can't see it with your physical eyes part way through and adjust, you have to do it all in your head. The knowledge of Symbols helps as does the various Yantras that you can do to trigger it in your mind better. But ultimatley the spell 'exists' in your head before it does in reality.

oh, and I put 'believe' in quotes in the previous post because it is not really the word I would...

As a small counter-point, the Will Working in Mage the Awakening IS 'believing' in something so hard that it becomes real; it's just that that's how it works PER casting. You want to form a fireball, you imagine a fireball so hard that it pops into existence. The difference is that aside for each casting of a spell, reality isn't consensual so the world is what it is most of the time. That means that a Mage can imagine that Fireball once and see how it interacts with the world and then change how they imagine the fireball a little differently next time based on that observation and improve their...

  • You might want to update the Knights of the Night Podcast link (**** Luck), they have done two more Stories with those characters. Here's their main link: http://kotnpodcast.blogspot.com/

They are unfortunately on hiatus right this moment though.

  • Similar to Heavy Arms idea with a spirit of Addiction, rather than making it a partnership, the werewolf could make a Fetish flask or crack pipe that allows mundane substances to affect them more. Or something like that....

  • So apparently this thread was double posted here (http://forum.theonyxpath.com/forum/m...radox-scelesti).

My response may have fallen on deaf ears... Also in the other thread Dave went into way more detail and shared so much goodness.

Maybe a Mod could merge them?
