  • DA: Fae + Changeling in modern setting?

I know that DA:Fae is somewhat canon as a part of the pre-Shattering history of C:tD, even if the mechanics don't completely support it as such. C20 seems to have made a stronger case for this being the background in the game world. I've recently been going back through DA:Fae as part of a time-travel story involving kithain, and have become once again intrigued by the flexibility of character creation and variety. I've never actually played or ran in that setting, but I like the character rules and IMHO it's probably the best of the Dark Ages line.

I'm now toying with the idea...

  • First, start with asking the player what he wants! If he just wants a chimerical sword then follow the guidelines in the book as Imperator and Black Fox mentioned. If the player merely wants a cool sword you don't have to give it actual powers and the background of being a family item from Arcadia can just be part of the story without any actual point values. Is there a reason why he wanted to spend that many points on the sword? Did he understand that he didn't have to if he just wanted a sword?

If he does want a sword with cool powers, I would follow the guidelines for the Treasure...

And remember that a troll can be quite stubborn and strong-willed without officially swearing an oath. In that quote there is nothing that is framed as a true oath. It's just the troll standing their ground and making their viewpoint known. Because they are a troll they will be unlikely to back down from the statement even though it's not an official oath. But if they did, they wouldn't suffer any ill effects. In C:tD an oath is backed by the power of the Dreaming. It's more than just a promise, it's a binding contract with the Dreaming as the "lawyer" overseeing the deal. "I'll...

Yeah, that's what I thought. Okay, so let's speculate.....what the heck does it do? Why is it such an impressive doomsday device?

  • Storyteller's Vault...for Changeling?

We now have the WW Storyteller's Vault is now online. I think it's really cool that they have provided tools for creating your own sourcebooks with all of the fonts and images to make it look like an officially published one. There are lots of great fan creations out there, and this way they can be made even better.

But I noticed that so far they only have information for V:tM. I guess that makes sense since it's the game that started a new generation of RPGs and is the foundation of the WoD. I would love to see the same creator's materials for Changeling! Anyone "in the...

    Triumph Casque of Sorrows

I know that the Triumph Casque of Sorrows is the ultimate doomsday device in the C:tD setting. But I can't recall if it's ever really stated exactly what it does. Anyone have a reference on this? If not, what do you think it does?

  • Hmmmm. I can't remember the original tagline for the game and can't find it online easily (my Google-fu is weak tonight). What about "When dreams and nightmares are real".

Good catch. However, there never seems to be any other mention of that or examples in any of the books or novels. It makes a certain sense that there would be some unaffiliated sidhe, but personally I see them as the rare exception, and they would likely be shunned or at least looked down upon by the other sidhe with House alignments....

  • Unfortunately the original developers focused on the USA and UK. Pretty much nothing was done about the rest of the world, including the rest of North America. Even though I'm an American I think this is a shame because there are so many good story opportunities in other parts of the world.

I think that it would be the responsibility of the local lord/lady to send word to someone of the new sidhe's house. I see it as sort of an unwritten rule between nobles to keep fostering the existence of noble houses. Having an area with NO sidhe at all would be pretty uncommon, and in modern society all you would have to do was go to the closest large town to find kithmates. I think that if you were the ONLY representative of a given kith in an area you'd want find others like you. This is true of any kith, not just sidhe....

Why would that make more sense? If everyone was nobility then that completely negates any idea of commoner vs. noble. It keeps nobility from being anything special, and negates a large part of the idea behind the existence of the sidhe....

The way sidhe are described in the books they all have a House affiliation. However, if I remember correctly there are a few examples of sidhe turning their back on their House. I would say this is quite rare, though the possibility of "ronin" sidhe could make for some interesting stories. But if you go by canon the sidhe are as much defined by their House as they are by their kith. In the Books of Houses there are multiple examples of oaths of allegiance to the different Houses. I've taken this as being what each sidhe does upon being sained and what commoners do when being accepted...

Must be a fan creation. I can't find anything related to C:tD with this fae on a Google search, and it's definitely not in any of the official books.

  • Trolls! I know they're not very true to the original myths, but I love how they are presented in the game. Even though I have the body of a boggan, I have the heart and soul of a troll IRL....
