If you have a Technocratic Civil War happen, I think it's at least a possibility for the VAs to join the new OoR - most of their beef with the Technocracy is down to politics. The Batini could then retake the Seat of Correspondence ...

I would also have the takeover of the upper echelons be masterminded by Threat Null ... the Technocracy's own sins coming back to haunt it is more thematically appropriate IMO than a Nephandic infiltration.

  • I would be surprised if local Amalgams didn't "get in on the game" so to speak in the absence of instructions not to get involved (along with Cabals of Hermetics eager to avenge the humiliation of the Massassa Wars, Choristers, etc.). Tolerating this in a wink-wink-nudge-nudge manner could even be used as a pressure valve by hardliners to redirect and placate reformist elements....

*railroading PCs between talking heads who exposit on the metaplot and deliver plot coupons, all the way to the final battle with Voormas
*a scenario that doesn't even include any clues on how to incorporate the PCs, apparently
*an Armageddon-esque scenario where all the factions' attempts to stop a meteorite end up interfering with each other, but the PCs might save a tiny fraction of humanity
*aliens stealing Avatars, who have to be rescued from their spaceship
*PCs get to watch as a Villain Sue kills everybody and turns the...

No. Awakening's mythology, with its Exarchs, Supernal World, Abyss, and Atlantis story belongs in Awakening. It doesn't fit into Ascension.

Would be neat, and wouldn't eat into wordcount that much because Enlightened Scientists are mechanically identical to Mages.

Yeah - some of the gonzo 2e era stuff returning would be nice.

Yes - Threat Null is a good way to have the 1e Technocracy as villains while keeping the Revised-era Technocracy playable.Disembodied Mages would also be useful as a general threat to all, slotting...

I have to say that I think your "New Order of Reason" as a concept is somewhat flawed - if I was to split the Technocracy it would be Void Engineers + reformists/idealists in all four other Conventions + Virtual Adepts. The SoE would stay with the Traditions, for Paradigmatic reasons and their beef with the Void Engineers....

  • There are 5 separate scenarios in Ascension, none of which are canon anymore - "Ascension" used to be the canon ending but now the whole Time of Judgement has been retconned/took place in an alternate universe....

  • That Hideous Strength by C. S. Lewis - the sort of things Technephandi would get up to (and how they would view their masters), some stuff on how the Chorus might view powerful Umbral beings, and a worst-case scenario for an age-old Traditions Master or Archmaster's reaction to modern-day mores.

  • Technomancers' Toybox is kinda out of date as it is - some of those Devices are downright sleepertech at this point....

Which is why I think M20 made a good decision to have the default antagonists be the Nephandi, who are rising in power specifically because the two main sects were two busy focused on each other to notice them....

  • Yeah. All the Conventions should be trying to propagandise/advertise themselves, not just the Syndicate and the NWO.

Yeah, though the attempt to milk it for horror really fell flat as the POV character was such an asshole, to put it mildly. By the time he was all "I can never leave!" I had already lost all interest in whatever happened to him,

Yep. Technocracy: Iteration X is more thematically coherent (being a mashup of the Borg, Skynet, and various sci-fi dystopias) but it also has some rather silly bits, though nothing as nonsensical...

  • That is broadly correct but IIRC the stuff about the Council members becoming Oracles (and the fate of Caeron Mustai) is from the now-noncanon Ascension scenario.

Just a heads up - Damian, as in "Precepts of", is listed on the Wiki as an NWO Archmaster and Reginald Proctor as a Syndicate one. Johannes Kepler is another Void Engineer one.

  • As it is, Ascension is far more vague and mysterious than Golconda in Vampire ... ironic, as Mage was supposed to be more hopeful than Vampire in that every mage would be seeking Ascension....

  • The vast majority of Technocrats got incorporated into Threat Null.

Tradition mages are less warped, but still got Disembodied and are nothing but Spirits mindlessly repeating the actions of their old lives. Archmasters of Spirit/DimSci might be an exception, since to become one you have to become Disembodied and then turn yoursefl into a human again, per Masters of the Art.

Senex and Voormas survived, but Voormas may not be around any more judging by the extended timeline of M20, which is kinda reliant on his plan failing totally.

IIRC the Traditions and the Union were about evenly matched in the Umbra, while the Union was stronger on Earth. I would say that the Technocracy took more casualties than the Traditions but lost far less in both morale and organisational capacity.

There would have been more Masters around, as they were disproportionately hit by the Storm. I can't see there being over a hundred Archmasters total in all the factions IMO.
