Yeah, there's also a difference between a disguise, and actual shapeshifting. Would definitely not let a familiar automatically detect that! Or bound demons for that matter. I mean, as a Lunar wearing a DB's form you should be able to swagger past his or her's loyal guard dogs or the summoned help, right?

Is the Tell still around, by the way?...

I applaud Dino Kaiju death matches! Perhaps the playtesters can run one and give us the narrative result!

Hmm, yes, but excellencies will definitely not be where they will have the edge! I mean, I think you underestimate just how wide the gap is. It would have to be other charms! Or simply avoiding this fight. Not easy to get away from a supernal survival solar with a Tyrant Lizard pet, but I still give better odds ;-)

If we assume we take just the minimum charms to DPM, nothing fancy or special. We increase our favorite dino's attack ability and dex once...

Yes! The Wizard of Oz made my point better than me! Don't get me wrong, in Ex 2.X I usually gravitated towards the other splats, Lunars in particular. I never had too much problems giving my characters their place in the group, but supernals, well, they change the equation.

Currently playing a supernal survival solar, and I seriously doubt a Lunar can shift into a similar beastform and come close to comparing, at least in the E2 range, and I doubt the E3 range either. I mean, sure, it's not shapeshifting per se, but with the possession it's pretty damn close. I mean, there's a cat,...

There is some mild optimizers at my table, so, yes, the players with weakest system-fu get some assistance to avoid true chump builds. The fact that players can start the game with wildly different powerlevels has proven problematic in the past. This issue is not limited to Exalted obviously, but this system certainly exacerbates it, which is by no means a criticism, just stating facts. Not everyone enjoys hunting for synergies among close to 1k charms yet still want to play in the same league.

Now, back to the issue at hand, no, to be honest I am far from sure that eliminating Supernals...

Because the only times I've ever played single-splat is times like these, when we started a campaign and there was only the basic Solar book available. So, yes, I compare with Solars, with their Supernals, because they will be there in the same group as the Lunar and the Dragon Blooded and the game must somehow not unravel and remain fun for all involved.

From what we've seen planning our next game it's Supernal actually that is causing most of the headaches for multi-splat play. Probably need to give that the boot, or at least some really strict restrictions on what can be taken...

The reduced mote regen is a huge cost, but all in all, beasties with Legendary Size do come with very nice perks and vastly better stats. To bridge the difference between a wolf or big cat in both defenses, soak, damage and durability, as well as access to special abilities would cost a great deal more than 4 motes per turn imho.

The lousy accuracy is what makes the animal forms of dubious utility, I fear.

The familiars of Supernal Survival Solars can compensate by raising their dex by 2 and ability 5, adding in a (cap-breaking?) cha+wisdom super-cheap pseudo excellency...

I personally wouldn't compare kaiju form to a warstrider, but to a supernal Survival Solar with such a familiar.

I would hope that a Lunar who invests in kicking ass as a Tyrant Lizard is not vastly outperformed by a Solar who invests in kicking ass alongside his or her Tyrant Lizard pet. Currently playing such a Solar and looking at those Lunar dice caps, plus knowing the survival & ride charms I doubt the Lunar will actually compare favorably to a Solar's familiar.

And then of course the Solar him- or herself can still take actions and the comparison could turn...
