  • Good Lord, what have I done?

Guys, let's just agree to disagree on this issue and leave it at that. I apologize for ever bringing this up in the first place.

  • I've begun to learn that. But to get on the topic of V5, I am cautiously optimistic about its release. It could be either really good or really bad, and I'm definitely buying it to find out. Worst-case scenario is that if it turns out to be bad, I can mine it for good ideas to put in my 1e and V20 games.

Fat Larry, you really should join RPG Pub. It's all gaming and no politics and the community is very friendly. If you join up, my name there is Doc Sammy. Tell the mods over there that I sent you.

  • I don't do Gothic-Punk, though there is nothing wrong with doing so. And you say Trenchcoats and Katanas like it's a bad thing.

Let's just agree to disagree, shall we? I'm not going to sully myself by arguing over real-life political implications in pretend monster games.

I don't do the metaplot and I don't do personal horror. I've established this multiple times on this forum since joining back in 2013.

If you want to turn your campaigns into a political debate team, more power to you. I just want to have fun. The point of gaming is a temporary escape from...

  • Yeah, but the politics of WoD are fictional politics between fictional in-game factions, not real life political issues, and the games were written in the 1990's. WoD is not supposed to be reflective of the fucked-up and ultra-polarized real-life political battlefields of the 2010's. Especially not in a realistic or "deep" sort of way....

  • Actually, this whole "everything is political" bullshit is one of the problems with our culture today. Not all art or entertainment has to be political. I'm sick of the censorship (and yes, it is censorship even if it's not from the government). Do keep in mind that this is not meant as a personal attack on you or your personal political beliefs, but instead a criticism of your specific statement of "all art and entertainment must be political".

Let's be frank here, World of Darkness is just a series of pretend monster games that people play for fun. Nothing more...

  • I'm cautiously optimistic for V5. On the one hand, I detest NuWW's decision to resume the metaplot from Revised and we all know my opinions on Martin Ericsson, but with Mark Rein-Hagen as a consultant for V5 and a promise to go back to the roots of 1e (my favorite edition), I will purchase V5 when it is released and see how it goes. To me, V5 is either going to be really awesome or really horrible and it's a 50/50 shot either way.

I'm one of the few people here to criticize NuWW for their actual gaming decisions (such as continuing the metaplot and certain mechanical changes in the...

I love RPG Pub. It's an open forum for the discussion of RPG's and it is explicitly non-political, which I like. We talk about gaming at RPG Pub, not politics.

If anyone is interested in joining RPG Pub, here is the link. My username there is Doc Sammy.

Going to be definitely running a Vampire: The Masquerade play by post campaign set in 1990's Chicago using the First Edition style and setting. Just unsure of two things, though.

First, should I use the authentic 1E rules or the V20 rules with the 1E setting? (I own both corebooks, BTW)

Second, should I host the game here or on RPG Pub?

  • Seeking Advice: What Edition for a VTM Play By Post?

So, I will be running a Vampire play-by-post game very soon, and it is explicitly a period piece set in Chicago during the early 1990's using the material from Chicago Chronicles Volume I and some ST tips from the new VTM Style Guide released on the Storyteller's Vault. The chronicle is an even blend of action and politics, and I am intending for it to be very street-level at first. We are going with the setting assumptions of First Edition, and as typical of my type of chronicle, Rule Zero is invoked to remove the metaplot of Revised Edition onward, as Revised's themes, setting,...

  • The good thing about World of Darkness is that Rule Zero exists and you can use it to bring Magical Girls into your version of the setting. I mean, we have fan games like Senshi: The Merchandising and Princess: The Hopeful, so a fan-made Mage tradition or craft based on Magical Girls from anime isn't that much of a stretch if Rule Zero is applied.

The themes of WoD are not concrete and absolute. They are entirely dependent on the ST and the players.

  • If you're interested in Magical Girls in the Classic World of Darkness, check out the fan-game "Senshi: The Merchandising". It's a sort of tongue-in-cheek fan game from the late 1990's that ties a lot of Magical Girl anime from the era into the WoD, most notably Sailor Moon, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Cardcaptor Sakura. A lot of the cosmology in Senshi is directly tied to Mage: The Ascension (and to a lesser extent, Changeling: The Dreaming). You might be better off as a Senshi who is allied with the Mages.

In fact, Princess: The Hopeful was originally envisioned as Senshi:...

Currently replaying Fallout: New Vegas and as usual, I'm probably aiming for either Independent Vegas (AKA The Good Ending) or maybe do Caesar's Legion for the ending since I strongly dislike the NCR anyway and sometimes it's cool to play the bad guy.

Currently planning an old-school Vampire: The Masquerade Play-by-Post chronicle. First Edition rules with the First Edition setting. Still in the early development phase, so I'm torn between Chicago by Night or a new custom setting I am working on for the Storyteller's Vault titled "Rochester by Night".

  • I always love seeing new material for Gary and Chicago, so I say go for it!

Overall, I like the premise and would love to see more developments for this idea.
