  • Played in a really awesome LARP yesterday over in Pulaski, VA. It was a double-header, Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Vampire: The Masquerade (Camarilla and Anarch) and long story short, I am going to be joining Mind's Eye Society very, very soon.

We used the new By Night Studios rules and I am actually impressed by them. I played a Glass Walker in the Werewolf game and a Toreador in the Vampire game.

Hurrah! Hurrah! We bring the jubilee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The flag that makes you free!
So we'll sing the chorus from Atlanta to the Sea
While we are marching through Georgia!

I hope I am not opening up a can of worms with this question, but I do feel inclined to ask you all this question that has been bugging me for quite some time.

Do you guys allow guns in your D&D games? Personally, I have no problem with primitive black powder guns (arquebus, musket, etc.) in D&D, as they were a part of Renaissance warfare, although more modern repeating firearms simply don't fit the feel of D&D in my book. However, I can understand why one wouldn't have guns in their D&D games at all.

As for weapon proficiency, I would consider firearms...

I love writing stories, even if it's just fan fiction.

Currently writing a story that is a crossover of Cardcaptor Sakura and Original Dungeons & Dragons, and I already posted the first chapter to Archive of Our Own.

Just wrote the first chapter of some D&D fan fiction on my new AO3 account, if anyone is interested in reading it.

Currently been rekindling my interest in Original D&D, AKA Zero Edition, all thanks to Dungeon Crawl Classics.

I love the blend of Swords & Sorcery, traditional fantasy, and good ol' fashioned 1970's gonzo pulp sci-fi weirdness found in that edition.

I do own two retro-clones of 0e, Full Metal Plate Mail (a near-identical replica of the original boxed set) and White Box Fantasy Medieval Adventure Game (a more modernized yet still simple clone) and I am thinking of buying the PDF's of the original material from DTRPG in the near future. I'll buy the core boxed...

I am currently planning a Dungeon Crawl Classics game on RPG Pub, and the more I read DCC, the more I love it.

I figured if we can discuss Pathfinder on here, we might as well also discuss Dungeon Crawl Classics and the OSR.

I hate how politically polarized everything has become, and I also hate the rise of extremism on both the Left and the Right.

Fuck the extremists. Bill Maher may be a dickhead, but he was right about one thing. There is a middle ground between the PC Police and the Baltimore Police, and we seem to have forgotten that in this day and age.

  • I was always more of a classic rock and oldies kind of guy. I love the hits of the 50's, 60's, and 70's!...

  • To be fair, Goth and Emo, while different in terms of music and fashion choices, are eerily similar in their nihilistic ideologies. At least from what I have had to deal with from playing with Goths in real life, anyway.

I don't mind Gothic all that much, if we're talking about Gothic fiction and the like. Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorite poets and writers, after all.

I'm all in favor of Edgar Allan Poe and Lord Byron, but leave The Sisters of Mercy and Type O Negative at the door at my games....

  • Hey, you're preaching to the choir on this one. I just wanted to comment on the difference in tone between 1e and 2e and how I personally handle said changes, and then it snowballs into this argument over thematic purity.

I'll bow out of the thread for now, before it gets any worse....

  • Maybe in YOUR games. But Rule Zero exists for a reason.

Don't tell me how to play MY games. I don't tell you to play your VTR games a certain way, now do I?...

  • I'm invoking Rule Zero to make certain covenants heroic in my games. That is what I was trying to say.

As I have stated countless times before, I reject personal horror in my games.

‚ÄčAnd Ventrue Life I do play Masquerade as well, and I also Rule Zero that game as well, removing the metaplot from my games....

  • You can always invoke Rule Zero to change the fluff. I always do.

One, Paganism is not inherently evil.

Two, in my games the Carthians support democracy and NOT anarchism.

Three, there's nothing wrong with science. Science rules!

Even with that aside, you can always invoke Rule Zero to change the fluff. If you don't like something in an RPG, change it! Eat the chicken and throw away the bone....

  • Meh, I know I've said this many times before, but I liked the mysterious and open feel of early 1e where nothing was set in stone, the Strix didn't exist yet, and a lot was up to the ST to decide. That being said, I am open to using 2e rules with a different set of fluff.

See, I didn't like the angsty "Woe is me!" fluff of 1e with things like emotional deadness and the text telling you that anything you do is evil no matter what you do.

Naturally, I invoked Rule Zero and kicked all that personal horror stuff to the curb and took a more action horror approach...

I'm thinking of buying Vampire: The Requiem 2e. I was going to do it in March, but some unexpected expenses came up and I had to wait. I'll probably get it in late April or early May when I'll have less expenses and more money coming in.

I still own 1e, but it seems nobody wants to play 1e anymore.
