  • I say we quit bickering (and that includes myself as well) and just play the games however we damn want.

Whether with V20 or V5, let's quit arguing about the game and start actually playing the game.

  • Sadly, I don't live anywhere near GenCon and I have no intention of going there anytime soon. But if I did, I would so do that!

Hell, I could do the next best thing and run it as a Play By Post on these forums, since I know that some of the old WW writers and NuWW staff read these forums...

  • Now I want to buy a copy of V5, house-rule the fuck out of it, and run a metaplot-free Trenchcoats & Katanas game just to spite the people at NuWW.

The game would be something that is anime-influenced, action-packed, and decidedly neither Gothic nor Punk.

Of course, I'd record the chronicle as it is being played and send the videos to Martin Ericsson himself!

Jokes aside, I seriously don't see the fun in playing a "Personal Horror" game, especially in the way that the people at WW tell you to play.

    Now, others do see fun

I love homemade sweet tea. Just brewed a whole gallon of it a few minutes ago and I'm waiting for it to cool down.

Anybody here a fan of the Rules Cyclopedia or its OSR equivalent Dark Dungeons?

  • This guy gets it.

The thing about personal horror is that it does not sell well when it is the sole focus of the game, the original run of Wraith: The Oblivion is proof of that. The majority of people (including myself) simply do not like personal horror. A lot of people tend to find the very concept of personal horror to be depressing, stuffy, boring, pretentious, or simply just not fun.

Which is why the whole "Trenchcoats & Katanas/Supers With Fangs" play style exists and also why the most commercially successful edition of Vampire (Second Edition) was...

  • I'm just going to be blunt and say that I think V5 was a massive mistake. I like the idea of the Second Inquisition as a plot hook, but other than that, everything else seems to be a letdown from the resumption of the metaplot (after V20 went metaplot-neutral) to the drastically reworked mechanics.

I was skeptical of it from the day it was announced, and it is sad to see that it realized all of my worst fears and potential criticisms regarding the game.

I like both Requiem and V20 equally, so I have no bias when it comes to Classic WoD vs. New WoD/Chronicles of Darkness...

  • I miss the old days of V1 and V2, and I wish VTM would go back to that style rather than the direction they went with in V5.

Yeah, V5 claims to be in the vein of V1, but it's really just lip service and overall the game is more reminiscent of Revised (with its strict adherence metaplot and One True Way-ism) and Requiem 2e (with everything else about it)

The reworked mechanics and the drastic setting changes were too much for me in my opinion, and as clunky as V1's mechanics could be at times, V5 strikes me as even worse and more limiting, basically V5's mechanics seem...

  • *sigh*

I actually like the Ravnos, and none of my Ravnos characters I played were Romani stereotypes or even Romani at all. Most of them were Irish-American or Scots-Irish and one was a Japanese-American gambler.

The Week of Nightmares was not created out of a fanbase backlash, the fandom's widespread hatred of the Ravnos largely came into play long after the Week of Nightmares. Hell, the Revised corebook even downplayed any connections to the Romani and instead focused more on the clan's Indian roots.

Actually, the decimation of the Ravnos was because some...

I don't appreciate being called stupid because I don't like a book or its extremely vocal fandom.

Look, I'm not saying that Harry Potter is bad because it's a children's book. It's a good book for what it is, which is Young Adult pop fiction. Nothing wrong with that. I myself love pop entertainment and don't care much for "high art" (that's part of why I despise personal horror in gaming)

What I am saying is that I don't care for the books personally and I really don't like the loud fans who act like Harry Potter is some great work of high art and act like I'm...

I hate most anything related to Marvel and DC these days, ESPECIALLY the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As an anime fan, I will gladly say that in my humble opinion, Anime Rules while Marvel and DC Suck!

Also, I hate the Harry Potter books. They're a highly overrated children's book series, not the next great work of the literary canon despite what so many members of my generation otherwise think.

If you enjoy the Harry Potter books, fine by me, but don't act like they're something they're not.

  • Meh, I actually sort of unironically liked the gonzo stuff from 1e and 2e. If you like the metaplot, that's cool with me but I think V20 did the best approach by being metaplot-neutral. You can include the metaplot if you want and they even provide the options for it, but it's not going to be forced on you like in Revised or especially V5.

I will admit that Revised is better than V5, and if you're just going on the corebook alone, then VTM Revised is fairly decent.

Another thing I didn't like about Revised was the WW writers at the time, most notably Justin Achilli, would...

  • Actually Revised was where the metaplot got really out of hand (until V5 managed to top that) because outside of the corebooks you had the metaplot screwing over players left and right, especially if you were playing Vampire or Mage, though Werewolf got some of it too.

If you played a Ravnos, a Stargazer, or a Camarilla-aligned Gangrel, the metaplot fucked you over if you followed it and aside from the metaplot, Revised had very little to offer. There's also the infamous Avatar Storm but that's already been discussed in this thread.

I like the Ravnos as a full Clan, the...

Has anyone ever read about the "Implied Setting" for OD&D?

It's really interesting and can work not just for OD&D or the OSR, but can also be applied to newer editions as well. I'll link the information below.

I hate the newest edition of Vampire: The Masquerade for reasons I have discussed countless times before and since I don't feel like rehashing them all, let's just say that with the official release of V5, all of my worst fears and deepest complaints about it were generally proven to be true.

I will still support Onyx Path and enjoy the old White Wolf stuff from the 90's but NuWW won't get a penny from me from now on.
