Personal taste I suppose. I'm honestly a bit tired that everything must be nuanced in some way. I'm starting to like a more visceral feel, this in-the-face approach. I think it is good for a corebook. It gives new players a stereotypical but strong impression, not too different from the old book.
In clanbooks and such they'll have the chance to add all the optional nuance that fans can like....

I totally agree with you in this.
It might be my taste maybe. I mean, why I'm not so prone to play a sadistic Toreador while I think I'd have fun playing a sadistic Tzimisce? Is it because it's a more cartoonish and so less disturbing kind of sadism?
Anyway, I agree with you. It fails. At least with me.
Still I see it as sort of an improvement for a clan that I've never seen played in my personal experience (I mostly played in revised era years) and most people I know never cared much.
In the context of the super-uber-conspiracy paranoia idea that a piece of the preview...

To me it didn't seem like that.
Saying "look, there are neo-nazi Brujah in the Camarilla" seemed to me just a fast and easy way to say that Cam Brujah aren't good guys. Some of them could be, some of them aren't at all.

Same goes for the Toreador sicko stuff. Yeah, it's an approach "in the face" but to me worked well. Sure it's different from Toreador of old. Again much less "good guys humanity-prone vampires". It's a stronger direction no doubt. I understand fans that would dislike it. To me it makes sense in the grand scheme. In the passage of...

    102) The characters receive the offer of a lot of money in exchange for killing an apparently common mortal. Unknown to them the mortal was chosen for the embrace by a Primogen and the offer comes from a rival within the Primogen's clan. Even if the characters discover that, killing the mortal would still be something lecit within the law of the Traditions. Still the elder offering the money will try to remain anonymous. The characters might choose which of the two elders will become an enemy and which one a possible ally in the future.

They won't be in the core book.
Which is a total bummer because they are my favorite clan.

I don't know if they will be in the anarch or camarilla book
Probably they will feature in the sabbat book

  • Fifteen years ago I think my group from that time tried this.
All players were italians in real life, and so inevitably most of the characters were italian-americans gangster stereotypes with funny accents. Except for the guy that wanted to play an assamite katana-wielding asian short girl, because he wanted to play his halfling female rogue even outside D&D or something like that.
I don't remember much of the game. It lasted just a few sessions. Funny accents are fun for a while but they become old fast, and making crimes for the sake of it too. We didn't have much motivated characters...
