  • "For certain Abilities (Expression, Crafts, Performance, Academics, Law, Science, and Technology), it is best to pick a specialty (p. 96), even if the character’s rating in the Ability is not yet 4 or higher. Thus, a character with the Crafts Skill is generally versed in handiwork of all sorts, but might be particularly adept at auto mechanics."

Like a lot of things Herd can be a roleplaying opportunity, or it can be a resource that is used and used up. While some players will like fleshing the herd out as above, others are literally just taking it to make feeding easier because they don't want to deal with that stuff.

I personally would focus on the relationship circles, or whatever V5 calls it, to work on the NPCs that the PCs want to deal with; if they want to put some of the Herd in there, that shows that they want to deal with them. But we are talking about mortals that are being treated as cattle, you want your cattle...

  • While the word Specialties is pluralised after "characters with ratings of 4 or higher in Attributes or Abilities may choose specialties for those Traits" it reads as though it is plural to deal with plural traits, not plural per trait.
There is no explicit cost in XP to get another, no thresholds for when are added, and the description for Strength 5 lists only 1 specialty.
QED - Only one specialty once you have 4 or more in a trait....

With the current V5 Metaplot, it could be a useful hide-out for one of the factions that have split, or rogue Tremere (that are old enough to know the locations and possibly get past any remaining wards or other lingering magic)

It could also be a place that the Inner Council could move back to (Or did move back to before the second inquisition targeted Vienna)

  • My point is that you said you need stats to prove it, and White Wolf hasn't done that for most characters before embrace. Fuzzy information is all that exists, so if you are making subjective decisions on what is a mage or not based on fluff, then you are using criteria that is fuzzy itself....

I don't have a link for sales details, just insight from what writers have mentioned in forums around here. (Gentlemen Gamer as a big one on providing reasons why things do or don't work)

I don't have it here, because I'm usually on the forums at work, and those notes are at home, but generally speaking (And these started out for a MET game, not Tabletop)

*All characters are able to be created and run from the core Vampire books*
Some decisions were made to mess with Vampire Players that had expectations of what Garou could do. These are designed as "Lupines"

    - Wizards, Sorcerers, Warlocks etc get Thaumaturgy/necromancy Paths to represent their power, buy them in the normal progression. Same with any power that you want to represent. They...

All things missing from the details, left to the imaginations of too many people that will never come to consensus....

  • As an organisation, it would make sense to change the Camarilla to be more exclusive after the "Club" has started facing significant increased issues in the last few years.
However since (most of?) the original founders are still around and just older/more set in their ways because there nearly a thousand years older; in that sense it doesn't work. This time frame is a blip that doesn't register as significant for elders of that era.

*Unless there is more stuff in the background that hasn't been explicitly listed, which some have implied

And here is (in my view) where V5 feels weird.
Requiem tried to be mostly neutral, run what you want. And those that liked it kept it.
Masquerade had a plot constantly moving forwards. You could ignore and play your owns stuff, or you could follow and much of the time have the details to play through a chronicle that affects it. Possibly not with the same characters that worked through the last ones, but the PC troop could run through it.
Enter plot of V5 -it happens and it's happened, no chance for seeing how, no chance to play it and not enough information to see what details...

  • They were the low clans, the shit-kickers, the Camarilla gives them an opportunity to be in the elite, ruling class.
Also, the Role of the Nos as information brokers works a lot better for them when they are entrenched in the society that they want to work with. And the ones more likely to be able to pay.

I agree with all of this, for a fantasy setting and without the history of book sales specifically for White Wolf

V:TM is the modern setting; Dark ages seems to have sold well, but Victorian/Wild west/Great war all tended to have limited success.
Regions and City books also tended to sell poorly compared to other books. (Chicago is apparently the exception)

So from the "Making money" rather than purely artistic endeavor, they've tried with limited success; when other developments work better financially.
That being said, when they're making enough...

  • For V5, the ammo stats replace the weapon stats, so Cifer's 100% on point.
Raufoss with +5 is deadly enough, +9 would be an instakill for anything including elders and werewolves.

*As a 12.7mm round, it's not going in a shotgun. It's going in sniper/anti-materiel rifles and heavy machine guns, so with a massive range or ROF advantage as well as the damage, and ignoring armour

  • Technically, it's only writer's fiat that anything does or does not happen.

But, more importantly, with the characters and themes in the Anarchs would lead many of them to rebel against a unified leader, even if it was in their best interest individually or for Anarchs as a group.
Because that's how the Anarchs Do.

  • I think that's part of the experience of the Anarchs; leadership is the thing they need most, but least likely thing for them to ever accept because it's against the ideal. They'd have to sacrifice some part of their identity to get it to work....

For Vampires; and us mere mortal humans; the scope of the world as a whole hasn't changed all that much in 15 years; I completely agree.

For a gaming line, 15 years (if it had regular releases) would be a damn long time for changes to occur, so it depends on the perspective and It could be argued that as it's the "Time of Turmoil" more stuff happens in a shorter period than before in vampire history...
