  • Obviously the line is a hard one to find and impossible to balance to get no-one offended.
The fact that it has become an issue globally (Above sited journalists and sites; and check out one lower too) rather than just on a related forum where a lot of discussions become heated arguments is telling that they were way off.
When discussing "In Character Perspective" there is still some obligation to question what is being written and why.
If you have a racist character, that doesn't save a publication from criticism of racism, the writer/editor etc put that in.

  • Unfortunately, it wouldn't be considered paranoia in most of the world right now. Even in "First World" countries, it's still an issue.

Sounds like the Witch Trials; You win if you Drown to death.

We had a dual like that in our Dark Ages game. (some wierd Houserules/combos involved)
A Ravnos (Bloodline requiring virtues instead of vices - Clan Weakness Chivalry) on Road of Kings was challenged by a Settite assassin who's spirit was ted to a mother of monsters, so she could rebirth the assassin if the body died.
Settite was sure he'd win, even if the body burnt up, but we paid in massive boons to the Tremere to cast the Proto-Gargoyle ritual to turn flesh to stone when the sun rises. (Rituals in Dark ages...

  • While that is interesting information to understand how it came up; It's not like that info has been released in a press statement from White Wolf.
"Polygon has reached out for clarification and further details, but no response has been offered." They're offering an opportunity for that info to come out....

  • Hunters Hunted and number 2 talk about setting vampires alight, no no stats for Dragons Breath.

V5 (a significant change in system) does have that section, meaning that Dragon's Breath has a +0 damage value (where +2 is for a 22 pistol and +3 is shotgun at it's effective range) so they are saying it does a little damage, but it's agg

I'd never heard of the "real" Temple of Set. - That'll be useful for my future campaign

I'm sure that their behaviours are completely rational as being good "People" fighting the good fight, expecially when looking at them from the same level or from above. But from below, they would look like the elders they themselves are rebelling against.
And I think it goes all the way up to Caine personally.

But I do like the complexities of character, that you can be a Rebel against a Tyrant and a Tyrant as well at the same time. All completely rationally from each character's perspective.

D&D has such wonderful black and white rules for Good and...

    started a topic Bane Details

    Bane Details

I'm looking to tap the knowledge of the werewolf players here, as I'm mostly in the Vampire game Myself.

There are a few unusual banes mentioned briefly in W20 Book of the Wyrm, but I can't find details on them other than the Fomori they create

Thirster Bane - Creates Bloodworm Fomor from Vampires
Rot Walker - Creates Draugr from Vampires
Howling Insanity - Creates Howling Shamblers from Garou

Is there any information on the Banes in other sources, what they might do as spirits before taking a host, their roles, gifts, etc.

  • I don't think a character mostly described in text and mentioned as "Appearance 5" factors in as much for the "Sexy" part of the trope, as it's usually there as a trope because of fan service for a reason; having the character have lesbian experiences, but still end up with the male protagonist. Although I believe her pic is on the Chicago by Night and it's a big fan servicey....

I'd recommend having some sort of Hedge Mage/Faithful to create the ammo rather than having a purely science answer. Hedge mage could enchant it with sunlight, Faithful being Holy Water or Blessed silver. Even a garou/Kinfolk that is technically creating talens from Helios spirits....

If I may; Serpentis' theme is the Set of Conan the Barbarian/Cimmerian.
The inspiration of Set in Wod seems to be around Robert E Howard's portrayal instead of the Historical Egyptian Diety. It's a combination of Set; Aphophis and outright evil that wants to bring the world into Darkness.

A Metamorphosist is all about becoming better, and would almost never copy another. You could have metamorphosist trying to be better by awakening their spiritual side with Sorcery, improving their mind, or control of the beast as their main focus.
They want to become something better than vampire, which is already better than human; but I think some of that can fit in the Camarilla.

I love Vampire in general because of paradoxes like this.

You're completely right - A clan of Rebels should have the young rebelling against the ancient of even their own clan. But the elders control that rebellion and redirect it just like any other Tyrant; better even because they've been there and the clan controls emotions with Presence.
    Hypocrisy Abounds, especially with Elders...

  • As Kammerer mentioned - It looks like the Thaumaturgy you're describing is having everything at your fingertips at once.
It is more like an ACME Catalogue than a utility belt, you may be able to order anything that you want, but you don't get to carry everything at once. And each thing you order has a way around it.
In fact, if you do spend all your XP buying as many versatile paths as possible, you'll probably start being an XP sink, because a lot of those tricks can be only used in narrow situations or overlap with other ones that you spend XP on.

    But I don't think...

May I respectfully suggest that your current Dialogue does not seem to be helping you see each other's points any further, or continue the discussion of the topic at hand in a meaningful way.
I would recommend that you both discontinue before anything escalates, as I don't think that either of you will "win" at this impasse.
No matter what responses you both have from here, I doubt either of you will feel that this ends up concluded well.

    Thank you

  • Etc Etc.

There is no Narration to say whether the designers want it to be a sudden change (Which makes more sense in designing the game; moving forward mechanically without rewriting history where it contradicts) or if it's meant to have always been that way (which makes more sense to a world frame, because what rational explanation is there in game) but have some guides for changing how the past has played out.

For a Specific Explicit example - Gentleman Gamer has mentioned on another thread that Assamites do not darken with age in V5; it was "a bit" racist...

  • Yes, that was there.

I'm talking about the fact that (with Hunger dice) a scene can now turn to frenzy without the old triggers of Blood when hungry, insults, fire etc. Any roll has the potential to go tits-up.

I'm talking about the fact that by "Rousing" the individual vampire has no consistent measure of how long that mean will last, you could literally last a month on on "Hunger" worth of blood because of "rousing when waking" not making you hungrier, or the meal of Drinking someone dry could last only 5 nights because every roll failed....
