Awesome. That's pretty much where my thoughts were going with it, especially since the 2E presentation really felt self contradictory at times. This is much simpler to work with from a ST position. Thanks. ...

So this came up in discussion of a potential Sid campaign, but figure it's as good a time as any to ask.

In 2E, there was the weird comparison between Destiny/Fate and Samsara. I seem to recall somebody mentioning Samsara got created purely to actually justify the traditional narrative of "destiny" (things that WILL happen, no matter what anyone does, and can't be averted) given that Sidereals' entire schtick seems to be about making destiny their plaything (i.e. things will happen a certain way unless people with access to a specific toolkit alter them so they happen some...

Yep, that was Gens Anjei, which Tyraeth mentioned above made. Marama ended up unemployed because his Lunar made him an engineered species super courtier as an anniversary present and since the charms from Tyraeth kept her from hating the Solars for abandoning her, she started blaming any Solar construct species and started a gang based on torturing the things to death for "sullying the honor of the Dragonblooded".

EDIT: Which of course led to the mass death camp in the Usurpation for Solar construct species that created the Shadowland that has her name on it now....

Lord Tyraeth founded an entire Dragonblooded Gens of practical stewards and exotic prostitutes to staff brothels outside of a major religious center so that Exalts could blow off steam after ascetic pilgrimages, who are also conditioned by charms to be unable to hate or otherwise display negative emotion towards the Solar Exalted.

Yeah, I got the very specific impression from the description that as far as the Realm's concerned, the Bull was a win for them. House Tepet was devastated doing it, yes, but so was the Bull. And if you're sufficiently Imperial focused, that means that both someone else took the big nasty bloody nose to beat back the Anathema that you didn't have to, and that as far as the Realm as an institution goes, you actually won.

As long as the Bull couldn't come back again with the same forces (and losing two Solars plus who knows how many mortal troops and allies is a hell of a punch), then...

I'm curious what the Dynasts define as "too close together" for kids. I'd had a concept at one point of a DB kingdom that kind of does the opposite of the Realm approach, deciding that they'd just try to have as many kids as possible because more kids = more chances. They'd space them out too (for the simple fact of not wanting so many of your DBs unable to do anything without risking their pregnancy in battle), but I'm curious how far apart the Realm considers "safe" without impacting their Exaltation chances.

  • Our group kind of trivialized a couple boss encounters with exactly this. One of our players is a pretty big min-maxer by nature, so we told him if he wanted to make his combat monster, it had to be a defensive monster. And then my Sorcerer sat behind him charging up Death Ray until he double-tapped an Abyssal pirate captain with it. Because nothing got through, so I could burn all my attention on building charge....
