  • Watch for the Council of Bones appearance in the story I wrote for the Geist 2E anthology! Remember: hunters don't know bupkiss about what they're dealing with and many CoB hunters don't even know they have a mark or how their powers work. They're stumbling at shadows, whereas Sin-Eaters know quite a bit more....

  • Yes! James unlocked more Stretch Goals for you. Hunters: do you REALLY think we'd offer tier one support for Tending the Flame and not include the other tiers? HAH!

  • Look, I'm reading all the comments and mentally saying "BUT THAT... COULD BE..." which is also why I've been refreshing the Kickstarter to make sure we hit more stretch goals. The corebook only gives us so much room!...

  • I NO RITE! I know what the stretch goals are and it's killing me NOT to spoil the surprises in store!

And Primordial newcomer, if it helps? I'm not offended at all. I can't expect everyone will be happy with the new edition or with changes. I can say a lot of thought went into each and every decision, but in the end it's a game that's meant to be played by you. You like what you like!

  • Yes, I will be posting the essay on Sunday/Monday after SWORN is live. I've been posting interviews with willing team members on FlamesRising.com and there's two up already. I'm going to be traveling those days, so please be patient with me!...

  • Thanks everyone! Allen wrote a design essay to talk about his deeply personal experiences and inspiration, but also to highlight why this particular compact is meaningful to a Native hunter and how they can work with other hunters. Authenticity was absolutely important, especially since there are over 550+ federally recognized tribes with their own, unique cultures and Native history is extremely complicated. I can't wait to share that with all of you; Allen is hoping you'll welcome him and his voice with open arms. ...

  • P.S. Thanks for catching on that the write-ups are full of story hooks--that was absolutely the intent! Should you want to hunt monsters every week? AWESOME. Should you want to delve deeper in hunter society? That's there, too.

  • Thanks, Primordial newcomer. The history of compacts and conspiracies began to change when the Dark Eras line was added, much like DE affected Geist, too. All of a sudden global conspiracies either needed to have more history than they did or they had to be newer; compacts could (but not always) be temporary due to historical events/tragedies and changes over time. Knowing this, I wanted Hunter 2E to be a corebook that reflected that change while not fixating on Dark Eras. There were tons of compacts/conspiracies created as First Edition progressed, and I felt it made sense they'd be absorbed...

  • Hi everyone! Glad to see you're excited about the Kickstarter and are discussing the setting. Popping in briefly to mention that Hunter 2E does retain the toolkit mentality from First Edition. If you are interested in playing a 1E compact/conspiracy or want to create your own? You can do that with the rules in the Storyteller chapter. Ultimately, it's your decision what you're excited to play at your table. I do hope we blast through more stretch goals, because Tending the Flame has some awesome potential for Hunter 2E!

I also wanted to talk about Mortal Remains. MR is considered...

  • Hi everyone, I just wanted to pop in to say "Thank you!" for backing Hunter the Vigil Second Edition and making this a reality. Everyone appreciates the support and is very excited to blast through the stretch goals to ensure you get more Hunter goodness. Speaking as the developer, I hope you see yourself in this game and will find a way to uphold the Vigil. I can see you're having fun with the lore and there's a lot more to come! Keep those candles burning!

  • Just as they were in first edition, hunters are regular people and are not supernatural. The rules are a mechanical expression of their commitment to the Vigil....

  • Their commitment. Truly anyone can be a hunter, but what separates them from another person after their first encounter with the supernatural is their willingness to uphold the Vigil and make the sacrifices required. Once they do that, then they become a hunter....

  • No, absolutely not. I will note that clarification in the text. Rogue cells can be formed after a hunter is kicked of a compact or conspiracy. The definition was broadened to be more inclusive of edge cases and not to diminish the original definition or be rude to tier one players....

  • Hi everyone. Regarding the compacts and conspiracies, there are two new compacts (SWORN and Nine Stars) and one new conspiracy (Council of Bones). I understand some fans really dig Aegis Kai Doru and Ashwood Abbey. They are presented as italicized examples but not full splats in the Storyteller chapter. Hunter 2E has a lot more monsters than ever before. I felt that adding new groups to second edition that diversify from Hunter 1E will help further the understanding that anyone can be a hunter as long as they make that commitment. This is a game that has a lot of morally grey areas; you can fight...
