I feel like that’s reasonable and in keeping with the spirit of the charm. I feel like the human only restriction is more of a “must be sentient non-supernatural creature” but it’s hard to tell what the limits of shifting are based on the preview only....

Consider maybe making it a Martial Art that uses a mechanic similar to the Stormcaller’s Storm building effect, there could be a cap on points (say Essence x 2) maybe the capstone is an AOE effect with points determining rage, such that an E5 character might be able to make it out to long range? This is still hideously powerful but it could still be within the realm of possibility....

Neato! So, If I make a city supernaturally easy to forage in— does that mean trees and stuff grow, do food vendors simply become more generous? Do the walls sprout apples and fish fill the canals and the ponds of parks? Are all these acceptable?

I think the territory charms are some of my favorites!

    Lunar charm preview question

Can Boundry marking meditation be used in a city? Can moon and earth blessing? And if so what might the latter look like.

I kinda thing a being that eats human infants as a type of weird job interview is far more terrible than one that does it for sustenance or even enjoyment. Think about the value judgment that’s occurring in the first place.

Not that I generally disagree about Rakshi this edition. I found the changes to her to be some of my fav parts of the preview....

You can’t on the same action, but for instance golden janissary helps shore up some holes in the Fire aspected Melee Charms (good utility Decisive damage charms and solid withering Charms) it also benefits from mobility— also a Fire abilities and has a solid clash charm that doesn’t cost willpower. They build out to a neat toolbox if you’re willing to commit the xp even if the charms don’t synergize directly. This is even more true for Dragonblooded who have to juggle their Aura....

Basically, the defense based on Guile thing shouldn’t allow you to add modified Guile because otherwise it’s one of the more efficient existing defense— if I remember correctly. Other than that I think the style is fine— and effort must be made to actually exploit the issue in doe eyes defense which should prompt the storyteller to curtail such behavior with a firm word and perhaps a few squirts of water from a spray bottle.

I quite like Fire dragon— because it synergizes well with Melee (surprisingly) and Brawl’s signature charm. Golden Janissary is useful for similar...

Out of respect for your thread’s integrity I won’t go into this overmuch. I read that yes— and I don’t have a problem per say, but the genesis of the bond was the end of a violent struggle and the preview (neither of them) really goes into the ramifications of the institution of the bond or what it was intended to accomplish other than to talk about it in cursory terms. That’s all I was getting at and all I was wondering if you or anyone found curious.

I’ll spin this off into another thread after more of the preview has been released if no one else does. Sorry for the...

Besides the backer preview that I’m discussing now and the ones posted to the onyx path website proper— not that I can clearly recall why?

Also, I didn’t mean for that to be sarcasm if it scans that way it’s only because of the tonal limitations of typing....

  • Social Charms are hard for me to totally gauge, I’m inclined to make it once per day and maybe 1m, 1wp but give it a do-able reset condition.

Right — re bargain threaten— I read it as allowing you to perform that action with nothing to leverage (hence my example).

As far as I read, all it says is that the Lunars were usually supportive of their solar mates who reincarnated but not always. This is pretty vague and not something many conclusions can be drawn from. Also I’m not making a hard point here— like I’ve said. I definitely didn’t mean to send the thread off the rails. Just was curious if anyone felt it was a bit... glossy in its tone when addressing that point.

My feeling was one of slight caution not disagreement.

Seems like most people didn’t see it that way....

I’m not 100% opposed to how it’s presented, as long as the bond isn’t a leash— but it seems to be, at least, a thing that predisposes the lunar to be loyal to her solar partner.

Why it’s not explicitly a ‘hostage’ in a litteral sense it does seem like a concession of surrender insofar as the solars are not stated to have undergone fundamental spiritual changes as a result of the peace. But yeah, I don’t have enough info to make a judgement yet— the tone just felt... light and uncomplicated for a thing which was, to my mind, neither light nor uncomplicated....

  • Principle Testing Dictum seems really trivially cheap for what it does. Also it doesn’t really stand to reason that a character should need to recall the memory of his great grandmother who was much beloved in order to not sell you her diamond ring for 6 bucks, even if you are a slippery customer.

Solar bond section—did the whole white-washed “hostage/spouse” thing created to end a war not strike people as a bit discomfiting? Not so Much that it happened but the way the text kind of took it in stride and moved on. Did I wildly misread this?

I started reading this hoping to see how you (or anyone) reacted to that part.

Kinda hope there tends to be more variance (which is suggested by some passages, especially the ones that mentions some Lunars fighting for the bronze faction in the usurpation) in their opinion regarding the solar deliberative and the vision...

  • Disagree with the initial conceit— solar’s schtick is persuading impossible to persuade entities— and they do get charms to do that. Also, presence is more than just the persuade action. And even in that case, one can instill or inspire to create intimacies to leverage— one must game the system sure but it’s not inherently a problem; it’s the way the system has chosen to model social interaction.

That said, I think what you described is a v solid solar social charm...

Also that would be a cool lunar charm concept....

  • Shapeshifting and animal stuff as a facet of a larger whole rather than the central focus of their powers; ideally mystical ‘outsider’ types, representing what is untamed and unknown rather than animal Exalted. Err, honestly I’m curious to see how the excellency pans out— don’t love the core book version where you can arbitrarily have a solar dice-cap provided you perform cursory stunts. Chiefly because this sort of trivializes stunting and makes it ‘mandatory’ rather than something engaged in chiefly for a more enjoyable game experience. I’m sure the authors will handle it...

  • Venomous Flying Fang: This is okay! The Withering effect should probably require some damage be rolled.

Reading Cobra: This should probably be a simple charm, which either is an attack (weaker) or is an aim action (stronger) and maybe a resonant effect allows it to be placed in a flurry with other actions. It feels a bit awkward as a supplemental charm, and supplemental evocations are risky already because they can have unintended interactions with other charms.

Spirtting Poison: This is fine, Id lower the mote cost and add a willpower cost. I’d also make it usable...
