  • The Catch of the premise doesn't make a lot of sense. Why would it be difficult for the Deva to just go "Oh yeah sure we can move all of you to another planet, no big"? With the presence of Heroes, Demigods, and Gods that grant access to the Forge, Stars, Sun, and Journeys Purviews, there's basically no reason for why there'd be limits for which cultures could get off the planet.

Even if this does happen, loss of a culture doesn't mean that the Gods will vanish. In the cosmologies of many of the Pantheons, they've survived all of humanity vanishing before. Like whenever...

I mean we can be pretty sure that Atlantis didn't exist because when Plato proposed Atlantis he went "Let's come up with a fake Utopia, let's call it Atlantis". Like that's the big thing that it seems got lost in a lot of Atlantis tellings. Atlantis was never really intended to be a literal place that literally existed, even when it was first proposed. It'd be like if I went "Okay I'm going to make up a flying city, let's call it Zyphyeria, a very fictional city that is very deliberately not real"

And then thousands of years later a bunch of people went "Zypheria...

I'm not an expert on, well, anything, but I can at least try to use the bare minimum of respect. And I don't think that in any way interferes with running a game or playing in one.

I mean I'll agree that getting too focused on the details and worrying about the smallest details may not be productive to every game group, but y'know... We can TRY for basic decency.

Like, the original idea... At its core, it's going "We know this culture existed but very little else so why not just make up a Pantheon?" and my problem with that is... If you're going to make things...

I mean if I wanted to just come up with a fictional mythology in Scion I'd probably pick a 'lost' culture I just fucking made up whole cloth. Can't get anything wrong about an ancient culture if I completely invented them.

Edit: Also, Watcher's comment felt more to me like advising of caution rather than moralizing. Just going "Careful there, remember these were a real people" isn't really scolding, anymore than going "Hey if you take this turn at 45 mph your car may flip" is scolding.

For Helen, if we assume she's a God... Guardian and Lover seem likely. I admit I don't know enough about Helen's legend to ballpark a third Calling for her.

As for her Purviews, Beauty is almost a guarantee. There's no Epic Presence in 2e, and there's no Arete. You can probably justify Beast (Swans) and Water or Sky. Passion (Desire) is possible.

As Auto noted, a Scion of hers would also gain access to the Metamorphosis Purview, as it's the 2e Theoi's PSP.

I'd cap any Hero tier Creature Scale at 1 or 2, tops. If the Heroes can't reach it themselves through Boons or Feats of Scale I wouldn't give them somethung that just exceeds that.

So Scale 2 Speed is something I would feel is kind of the max for a Hero....

The Errata says Rating x 2, but I think that's slated to be changed because at Creature 3 you have 6 Injury Slots, and that's too damn many IMO. So I go with just Rating for Health Levels.

The book also in the Rules section says that if it works better for your table, whatever. OPP doesn't have the budget to send canon enforcement ninjas to you for fiddling with things.

Also, between you and me, the corebook isn't always very well-written. Frankly, don't worry about it....

Health - The Creature Rank. I think that's established somewhere.

Defense - Followers get Rank/2, Rounded Up. I'd go with that for Creatures.

Initiative - Eyeballing the Antagonist Rules, go with Primary Pool - 2, which is also what you'd probably do for establishing the Secondary Pool for the Creature.

Scale - Technically Scale is a "Thing that applies when it makes sense thing". Also, as I mentioned in the Relics thread: Scale be scary and I'd be wary of handing it out. At least at Hero level.

Also, Followers can more easily allow for things like "Don't worry, Boss, I can get us into the club" than Creatures can. The two do different things.

I say fuck being pedantic when it stops being fun. Buy the MA dots with your Ability Dots, make sure you snag the MA Merit when you snag your Merits, I'm not gonna skin my players alive for it.

Granted, Guide Tiers are a bit less important. Since Guides, mechanically, don't need stats. The benefits you get from a Guide are things they're teaching YOU how to do. If you use a unique Knack you acquired through a Guide, the Knack's effective tier is based off of you, not off your Guide.

Hm, how about a Knack that lets you Imbue in order to gain a Feat of Scale boost for the Scene instead of SPENDING for a Feat of Scale?...

I'd be careful about applying Scale willy-nilly. Scale can be scary.

Like, okay, let's assume you have your Relic Car, and that the car already applies Scale 2 when going fast because it's a car.

Now let's assume that you have the customer Knack that lets you add +1 Scale to Zoom.

And let's also assume you, a Hero at Legend 1, pop a Feat of Scale. That's another point of Scale.

Suddenly your car is going at Scale 4 Speed, so +8 Automatic Successes. And the Scale Chart in Origin puts Scale 4 Speed as the general ballpark of "Commercial Airliner"....

I generally consider the listed attack pool attributes as firm guidelines rather than ironclad rules. My personal rule for changing the pool is "Have the player justify it"

Which can vary for some opponents. Like, sure, in many cases someome can explain away using dex for melee attacks, but with an animate rock monster it may be tougher to justify how hitting it more precisely makes a difference.

(When I say "Justify it" my threshold for justification isn't that high. Mostly if they try and their explanation makes decent sense)

And if it comes up... With PC defense, their Defense difficulty is set after that first defense roll in the round. So if you get attacked by one Antagonist, and the Defend roll gives you a Defense of 3 against that attack, then get attacked again? You do not roll Defense for that second attack. The Antagonist rolls vs your previously established Defense of 3.

The Sid Fan in me has to ask... Do you feel like sharing if it's gonna be a particularly TRICKY method of gaining Mastery for Sids? Or is it something pretty basic like "Learn the Form Charm of Righteous Devil, gain Mastery for the Style"?...

Oh, Heroic Quality as in "Quality that is in the Hero book"!

Yeah, Qualities I assign on a "Does This Make Sense" basis.

For Regeneration I may require a Weakness sandbag that can bypass or negate it....
