    replied to Relic creation help
Oh, oh oh oh! Hold on, before anything else-

HERE is a (free) homebrew Pantheon for the Abosom, the Gods of the Ashanti people, which is actually the culture that Anansi comes from. Share this with your player; it's made by the VERY talented and VERY dedicated Watcher and Sacerdos. So you want to have your player play a Scion of Anansi? This will help you learn a lot about him.

(Spoiler: Anansi's primary role in the culture is "Don't Be This Guy")

Okay! Relic help! To be honest? For power levels, I keep this in mind.

I think that's by design, the Soft Armor thing.

Scion and Trinity use the same base mechanics but they use their Numbers in different enough ways that I can't call them cross-compatible

  • A thing to keep in mind, re Improvised Weapons:

Regular Weapons have attack tags, showing you what kind of combat they're used in (Melee, Ranged, Thrown, etc), and these Tags also specifically say that they grant +1E to attacks made with these weapons. A way to represent Improvised weapons would be saying improvised weapons lack this Enhancement, as you're taking something not meant to be a weapon and trying to use it as one, versus something designed to be a weapon.

Also, gonna echo Florin's comment of 'Why not just throw improvised weapons? That's a feature, not a ...

replied to How, exactly, do I write a Scion campaign?
Duly noted, I just felt it apt to post a note for a potential minefield.

And I should probably lay some context for my advise... I usually don't plan out more than like, 1-2 sessions in advance, because I tend to focus more on character-driven narratives. This works well with my group, as most of them have character traits I can dangle plot hooks in front of.

"Okay, so they ran into an art smuggler, but he has to be working for someone... Who's a Heroic figure who would have an interest in old relics? REINCARNATED GILGAMESH! Okay so this session let's see if I can't...

Honestly, the way I do it? You don't NEED a PhD in Comparative Religion and classic literature to run a Scion game (though it can help for inspiration), as there are countless ways you can do it.

I personally go "Right, so mythic references HAPPEN in my games, but I'mma level with you, I'm more interested in the characters YOU make, rather than having you play Achilles 2.0. Unless you play a reincarnated Achilles, in which case sure we'll roll with that"

So I'm not the type to say, copy a Legend 1:1. I'm more the type to have a multi-Pantheon Band be given a...

I think 1e mentions Ymir as being a greater titan of Ice whose death ended the Ice Age and caused the Great Flood, and is the handwave for why the Gods don't just kill the Titans

Here's something I think I should comment on. There's this mindset that the Antagonists are automatically weaker than a PC. In my experience... Frankly? Not really.

Yeah, if you make a Mook, who goes down if you hit them, then yeah, they're gonna be weaker. But with the right Flairs and Qualities, maybe a couple Purviews for the sake of Marvels, antagonists can be just as powerful as PCs. They're antagonists, they don't need to be as COMPLEX as PCs.

Your Fire Scion Antagonist doesn't need Heavenly Fire to shoot fire from their eyes, they just need a Flair that lets them...

Also keep in mind that my comments have been assuming that both parties are on the same Tier. Knacks explicitly don't work against targets of two tiers higher.

    (Reminder: Tier 1 = Origin, Tier 2 = Hero, Tier 3 = Demigod, Tier 4 = God)

So if you have a Knack that lets you know if someone's lying to you, but Odin is the one you're scoping out... Odin's a God. He can tell you that the sky is green and Takes One To Know One won't go off.

The easier way to tell if Odin is lying is to check and see if his mouth is moving.

I may have been speaking a bit hyperbolically as well, it was a bit late when I made that post.

I still maintain my points of how there ARE in fact Clash rules for when Knacks and Boons are resisted....

Did you see the mechanics for Clash of Wills?

Edit: Also I think part of the assumption is that... Y'know, entities with Knacks and Boons (PCs) probably won't be using them against one-another. Since Antagonists generally don't have Knacks and Boons.

Edit v 2: And if your answer is "But what if the party goes PvP?" I think the assumption is "You're not really using the system as intended", as Scion assumes that the PCs are going to, y'know, cooperate for the most part.

Edit v 3: But out of curiosity, let's take a look at your examples,...

    replied to Asset Skills
Asset Skills are just ways to say Skills linked to something, in these cases Paths or Guides.

Path Asset Skills are those three skills linked to your Path. In Chargen, they allocate your Skill spread depending on the Path's rank to you.

Guide Asset Skills don't grant you improvements to your Skill rank, which is why they establish that so you don't go thinking that you get points in those Skills for having a Guide. Instead, your Guide Asset Skills determine which Skills you can use the Guide's Stunt with.

  • I think I heard a rumor that the Purviews in Masks will be different to a degree, probably to fit the tone better.

Like, there will still be a Fire Purview, but it probably won't have the same innate power, or it may have some drawbacks associated with using it.

Given the aesthetics of Cthulhu, maybe it'll be like the Water Purview in Masks gives you visible gills?

The Scion Companion will have the title of "Mysteries of the World", thus the confusion.

Other things I know from Tidbits gathered for the 2e Atlantis Pantheon

    Pantheon: The Teros
    Pantheon Virtues: Nostalgia vs Vision
Pantheon Motif: Sufficiently Advanced Technology is Indistinguishable From a Miracle
    Pantheon Signature Purview: Demiurgy
    Boons Names
    • God-Sight
    • Hypertech Upgrade
Alas, we don't know what the mechanics of Demiurgy and its Boons are... Nor do we know the Asset Skills for the Teros Pantheon Path.

I think that Flinty was noting that in the Fatebindings is mentioned, the Hero book also mentions "This is pretty tame. Fate grows its teeth at later Tiers, like Demigod and especially God"

So we don't know how Fate works at Demigod, but we know it's meaner than it is at Hero tier.

A point. At Hero tier, a failure may be better represented with a situational Enhancement against you from time to time, and in a shift in NPC Attitude towards the PC in question. Like, the Minotaur isn't intimidated by you because he heard how you got thrashed in a fight against his cousin or whatever....
