  • Relics can give you Knacks and Enhancement. Those are invaluable.

Edit: Actually that's something to note in general about 2e. I've seen a lot of people talking about Purviews and Boons like they're the be-all of being a Scion. In reality, Knacks will be your workhorses. You're not gonna be spamming Boons every round....

  • I'm pretty sure that beings without Legend don't get Purview Access, including the Innate powers. Some Sorcerers can weave Marvels but even they need to steal the power to do so...

Defense for PCs is a pool of your highest Resilience Attribute. Stamina, Composure, or Resolve.

When you first get attacked in a round, you roll your Defend pool. You can spend your successes on Defense stunts, such as "Dive for cover" or just to boost your defense.

For the purposes of defense calculations, Neall confirmed that your Defense starts at 1 and can be boosted with successes. But don't underestimate blowing some successes on diving for cover. Cover gives bonus health levels to soak an incoming attack, not unlike Hard Armor.

    Ah,...

An understandable conclusion. I think of it like this.

You may know in your mind. But the Visitation is when you Know in your spirit or soul....

There's a difference between "Yeah I got some divine ancestry, so the legends say" or "I'm a kitsune, it's pretty neat", or even "Yeah, my dad's a God, he stops by sometimes" and that moment when you realize that you're a Hero.

Like. Zeus had a lot of kids. A lot. Not all of them were as big a deal as Hercules. Some people know that the divine is real and know how to read omens and the like, and not all of them will have that moment of clarity when Fate resonates with them, and they become a figure of their own Legend.

    "I knew Dad was...

There's a Path for playing a sacred dog that talks like a human in the Origins book. And even pre-visitation Scions have special tricks in the form of Knacks....

Okay, so we know about Dragonbloods and their Progenitive Essence... Is it safe to assume that knowledge of this isn't exclusive to the Realm? Like, can we assume Lookshy and Prasad know to wait like fifteen years between kids for your best chances of them Exalting?

    Whoa now, hold up...

Scale 1 doesn't double your successes on a roll. It gives +2 Enhancement. So instead of 10 successes, he should have gotten 7.

Which still aces it yes but still, something to keep in mind going forward

I mean from the work they put into it, they want the game to be as faithful as reasonably possible. Like a line from the Hero book that's repeated in the Companion outline: "Be as respectful to these myths as they are to themselves. Which sometimes isn't very, admittedly."...

So you get one Calling from your divine parent at Origin, and post Visitation you get one of their Purviews. That's all your divine parent informs and determines.

That's far less than what 1e did to tell you to be a copy of your divine parent. If you wanted to go in a different direction from your divine parent? Fuck you, pay more experience. This determined not just the Boons and Epic Attributes you spent less experience on, but ABILITIES too. Yeah, remember that? Your divine parent in 1e determined your Favored Abilities.

None of that in 2e. You get one Calling from...

Spoken like someone who hasn't actually looked at the incredible range that even a single Calling gives you. A single Calling is more broad and gives you more tricks than a single D&D class. And you get three of them.

Here, let me boot up my copy of Hero... And let me use a random number generator... Okay, got 11. On the list of Callings, the last one is... Warrior.

Let's look at what the Warrior Calling lets you do, through its Knacks.

    First: The Hero Knacks.
    • The Biggest Threat: A Knack that upon use, lets you mark yourself to all enemies, so they

It expands the range of what you can declare a Feat of Scale. If your Title has nothing to do with the action you're doing, but you have Beauty, and you're doing something that would benefit from your appearance or body language, the Beauty Purview can let you make it a Feat of Scale....

You have to spend a point of Legend. The bonus of the Beauty Innate Power is that you can use a Feat of Scale for any action that falls under your appearance and body language, regardless of whether it falls under your Title or Keywords or not....

I had an idea for a Wood Charm that would let the Dragon Blood place a seed into someone's hand and coax it to bloom in a way that conveyed an impression of someone's Essence. Like a human possessed by a ghost or demon would sprout a flower choked with parasitic vines, and an Exalt would bloom a flower with petals of Essence.

And this is a bit delayed, but the argument of "Athena is Wisdom and Strategy, not cunning"

... Cunning is like THE adjective most applied to strategies.

    "Ah, a cunning strategy"

Also, Neall's mentioned you can add new Innate Purviews to your powerset when you become a God. So Haphaestus grew into his power, mechanically. Again, there's not going to be a complete 1:1 mapping to perfectly capture all myth, like Samudra said, but this Edition comes close.

Scions are going to inherit things from their parents. That's just how it goes. And as Samudra said, there's no XP tax for investing in Purviews that neither of your parents have, if you want to be a rebellious pissant. You want to be a Scion of Hades with the Beauty Purview? Relic Makeup, boom. Pick those...

Use the antagonists in the back. Ballpark, lowballing it. If your players breeze through, use Tension to empower one of the enemies.

Your question, however, has many variables. What kind of Scions? Are they combat focused? How many have the Warrior Calling? Do any of them have Creatures or Followers to do the fighting for them?
