  • Depending of the ST and the type of stories his telling, yeah, but most of abilities are in this situation.
And when we're storytellers, we're not forced to make stories with antagonists armed to the tooth with only artifacts even on a "Wyld Hunt story", nor are we to make them equipped with artifacts having concepts matching the interests of our players characters, we're not forced to let our PCs capable to learn evocations from any artifacts they find either and finally crafting is not just about crafting new weapons and armors.
There is lots of other reasons but each of...

    Hi ^^)/

I'm RosePlancton (Rose is okay ^^ ) a 25 years college student from France and a visual artist (doing mostly drawings, clay sculpting and computer graphics).I'm GMing since I'm 12, playing lots of things with my numerous family like The Dark Eye, DnD 3.5, WoD (old and new), Pathfinder, Feng Shui, Qin and lots of "custom rulesets".
I discovered Exalted and Aberrant in 2017 and I became a groupie of both but after half a year playing Exalted I had to stop a month ago because of health issues.
I'm still in love with its setting and I've been lurking here...

  • Mostly because of priorities in chara design and characterization but lots of other things than artifacts evocations gives more chances at survival in normal fights than evocations do. ^^
Evocations are strong but If I want my characters to just be good at surviving, I'd go for some solar charms before going for the evocations helping me beating my enemies controling the weather (it's just an example, evocations can do lots of things). ^^

  • Sometimes I just search for some unusual fantasy or science fiction settings and I explore their wikis, reviews and any other fan contents I can find on the internet.
Most of the time I do it just for fun, the same way I was reading mythologies encyclopedia when I was younger, but sometimes I really find cool ideas for my rpg campaigns or interesting point of views about how people see those settings elements.
Since my stories are long, I usually take a 3 weeks pause between each stories when I ask questions and suggestions from my players about what they want for their characters...

I'd recommend the anime or the novel over the comics, the pace being far more slower in the comics. ><

EDIT: Feng Shen Ji, I just remembered ! D:
I read lots of, I stopped because of college exams and not finding what was my last page anymore a few months later I never finished it. :'(
Now I want to start this manhua again. X)
But first, Kill Six Billions Demons.

EDIT: Okay, KSBD makes me want to draw again X)
    It's really cool. X)

I'm still exploring the xianxia genre but I found that lots of xianxia stories and authors had more problems with their heroes always being too competent for the struggles/conflicts they were involved in. I personally had more problems with that than with their characters being absurdly powerful. But I chose Mo Dao Zu Shi because I really think it's an excellent xianxia anime. ^^

    Thanks a lot SamuraiMujuru ^^
And yeah, I really think that xianxia settings is a good inspiration when I'm working on my exalted campaign, for example when I'm helping my players with our first age...

In fact, gods, immortals/wizards and demons are not a necessary part of wuxia. Lots of wuxia novels, comics and movies don't count on fantasy settings (if we except things like the use of qing gong and other absurdly powerful kung fus of course which are part of what permit the legendary type of storytelling in this genre).
Wuxia is a genre where most of the stakes are about the cultures of and the interactions between Jianghu (the outcasts), Wulin (the martial artists) and a cruel Chinese environment (an ancient or medieval China most of the time). Lots of Wuxia have more fantasy elements...
