    What's the roll to spot a tell?

    Since the difficulty 7 roll to spot that they're disguised can't be attempted unless you have already observed the tell....

    Presumably, you can't use Seven Shadow Evasion against Eyes of the Unconquered Sun since, even though it's opposed by evasion it's not an attack; but can you use Reed in the Wind in response to max your evasion for 0m?

    Sorry if this was asked before, if it was I couldn't see it, but how do you spot a Lunar's tell? For exmaple, one of the Lunars in our game has the tell "gentle brown eyes", even if she was forced into her true human form there is nothing that stands out about this tell to bring it to immediate attention. Or is it enough to have observed their tell, even if you don't know it's their tell, to see through their shapeshifting in future? Or is there something about the tell which allows you to immediately recognize it as the Luanr's tell.

    To add on to this, do the sun and moon trace the same path across the sky, and does that path vary across the year? Are the stars fixed, or do the revolve around some common omphalos, such as the elemental pole of earth. Do the stars of the five maidens wander erratically across the night sky? Is there a 'pole star' used for navigation, and does it have an associated deity?...

    What, to you, is the key distinction, if any, between a martial art and it's corresponding combat ability?

    For example, if Mnemon Caras Kosori learns her family's secret archery technique, passed from mother to daughter, would it be adequately represented by archery and (if she exalts) charms, or would it be better represented by an archery based martial art? And what factors influence which of the two best represent it?...

  • The problem is that it isn't very good for player with no dodge/athletics charms if they also don't have many dots in dodge, athletics and sail. If it allowed you to use your sail instead of your dodge or athletics, I think it'd be a lot more viable. Still it's miles better than Where-Is-Doom Inquisition, a charm my character also has, and his only Join-Battle enchancer (Occult 5. 6m for +2 dice to JB is a good deal, right?)

  • I'm playing a fairly high essence Dragon Blood in two games atm (one 250-ish xp, the other 550-ish); but in both cases I haven't played many games and the characters started off at those high xp levels rather than naturally getting there. Both of them also use M.A. so I haven't had the greatest of looks at their native combat charms. Neither of them lean particularly heavily into evocations though.

    Charms are, naturally, going to be to taste. A lot of the real fun effects lie in signature charms. A lot of the charms I never use, I bought knowing that was the case, but wanted access...

    "With the exception of permanent Charms, any Charm with a duration longer than “instant” requires that any Essence spent on it be committed." - Core Rulebook, pg 254

    How does this interact with charms that require you to spend motes every round, or allow you to renew/extend the duration of the charm?

    For example, Orichalcum Fists of Battle costs 1m a turn to maintain. Since this is essence spent on a charm with a duration longer than instant, do these motes become commited?

    Is the mobility penalty the only factor negatively effecting swimming in (non-bouyant) medium and heavy armour?

    If so, does someone in articulated plate which has had (via charms, evocations, sorcerous workings etc.) it's MP reduced to 0 float just as well as an unencumbered character?
