Flavor powers are fine for non-official stuff since you have no word-count to worry about. As for the Charm, I'd probably consider something like "Pay 3m to reroll a success on a damage roll, up to 3 successes", maybe with a conditional increase to make it reach 5 sux rerolled. Maybe giving it a Charm to gain a temporary Hardness boost so it can fight off low-initiative kiting momentarily. Dunno....

Yes, I know, I was simply wondering why you were mentioning it in the context of Brutal Ape which for BGs would just be a Single Point-like double attack except AoE....

Engage? It's a Decisive attack, not a grapple roll, what Brutal Ape gives you. So it would not translate to a reflexive engage roll, but to a reflexive attack, and all BG attacks are AoE.

Edit: That said, I misremembered, Brutal Ape Pounce does not cost initiative, that's Rending Claw Slash.

Halving damage dice is tremendously powerful, more than a Solar E...2? 3? Resistance Charm (Iron Kettle Body) if it also works on Decisive attacks. I'd recommend either a once per scene clause or to reevaluate its balance....

But here's where it gets weird: Battlegroups don't gain initiative naturally, and they lose initiative by using Brutal Ape Pounce, so each time they use it it becomes less and less likely that they will use its best function; also, they don't have a withering or decisive divide, so for a BG it's pretty much a multi-attack and it applies to everyone around it, meaning that if a single combatant is knocked below them ALL combatants within range of them get attacked again. There's just too much that changes for it to retain its original balance, it feels both weaker and stronger in multiple ways....

'twas but an example. I doubt STs will ever try to throw those into a BG, one is plenty enough on his own....

To me, it's less "broken" (though you could argue damage 27 + overflow is pretty broken, particularly with War Charms giving a horribly hefty overflow) and more, it gets really complex to try and make a BG's Charms work as usual. Grapple Charms? You have to make them into Engage Charms instead and tweak accordingly. Multiattacks? It hits everyone around the BG so you have to be VERY careful with that or it becomes ungodly powerful. It's not as simple as just "Have the BG use Charms", hence why I think a middle of the road approach (no Charms, but Might-granted unique bonuses)...

It's not all that complicated; I've been giving a BG rewrite a whirl, and so far, including small bonuses below each spirit is surprisingly simple. You just look at their Charms and which seems to be more iconic to the spirit, and give them a neat passive/WP-cost/initiative-cost trick accordingly, with better bonuses the more Might the being has or the more powerful the being is. A Battlegroup composed of twelve combat demons on par with Octavian will have better Might-derived bonuses than a War Ghost Battlegroup despite both having Might 2. Not everyone will want to go that length but it surely...

Seconding the Hardness bit; would recommend about Hardness 3-4 just to also avoid base-initiative barrages, at least those that don't have Hardness-ignoring Charms built into them. Those ones are already fine by virtue of forcing them to spend motes on damaging your steed....

It's theoretically possible (Ready in All Directions Stance, Fivefold Bulwark, Victorious Wreath, Divine Executioner, yada yada) but in practice ain't no one got the time fo that, by the 10th hit the BA fails the ST will just go "Yeah they all miss and over the course of three weeks of battling without rest you murder them all and still have a full mote pool"...

Not really, you say "we fight" and then either the Size 2 Blood Ape BG gets destroyed in instants by anything that can beat its Parry and has any dice boosters, or you die to a never-ending onslaught of 30 individually fielded Blood Apes, a problem that BGs were meant to fix; it's not really fair that any answer to "let's fight Mnemon/Raksi" is "you instantly lose if you don't manage to ambush her while undetected by several hundred dematerialized spirits". It's an issue for sure and...

I dunno, I would have hoped that Might carried a small bonus that...

It's why I prefer Wolf Pack's approach. It does not care about human or otherwise and doesn't have weird rulings like these. A nice, straightforward, +1 to stuff and +1 Drill up. I'd probably make TWTT work like WPTT against spirits and other nonhumans for the sake of brevity and it making any actual sense. As for martial artist demons, I've already used a few in my games and treat it as normal. Not just "there's only twelve of these demons in all of Malfeas who know the styles", more "Oh hey this random demon I summoned knows a bit of kung fu, neat" And sometimes more than...

It's not particularly hard to do a six hour ritual most nights for a few months. Even for a single sorcerer. Let alone a four hour one (elementals)....

Dev ruling; on the one hand, I get why the ruling is there, on the other I really dislike anything that exacerbates the Blood Ape problem or Tyrant Lizard problem or however you call "a single member of a Battlegroup can obliterate a thousand characters equal in power to them but the only difference is that they're grouped up as a unit". Might does NOT do nearly enough at all to make up for "flurry two attacks" or "double 8s on a damage roll" that Blood Apes get, for example....

They cannot use Charms (which is bs in my opinion, the Blood Ape problem is bad enough as it is) and it looks like Tiger Warrior would replace Blood Ape stats with Elite Soldier stats, which is not ideal. Same attack pool, less damage, no grapple pool, only +1 Parry... The Lunar variant, Wolf-Pack Training Technique, would instead enhance their stats up to a maximum so their attack pool is untouched as is their Willpower, but their grapple pool, Join Battle pool and Parry would all go up by +1 per use of it to a max of 10 for the pools or 5 for Parry, and their Drill would increase by one step....

  • [White Elephant for Mockery] - The Spirit Court of Drowned Promises

Hereby presenting, unfashionably late as it is, The Spirit Court of Drowned Promises (Or Rather, Three Sample Gods From It): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

(Yes, I've no clue how to format posts in this forum)

I got the idea from the Wu-Jian section of The Realm, a court of spirits cast underwater by the Immaculate Order when they failed to impress them. I merged that hook with the later one that mentioned a destroyed Crescent Temple lying at the bottom of Wu-Jian's waters, making Crescent Temple the home...
