  • Beyond 5, it's often "Narrative fiat, within plausible (for what plausible matters with 21 freaking successes) grounds". Leaping 10 stories is the territory of Charms, I doubt any number of successes will let you do that, BUT, the jump could be incredibly successful, getting to the first or second story and granting you a large circumstantial bonus to the next roll or avoiding penalties that would have happened otherwise. If you wanna go weirder, you could make the story's progression or events go more in favor of the person who got that ungodly amount of successes (the guards show up...

Is there a way to eyeball the scale/magnitude of a Manse's powers or potential at least until we get a dedicated book? Or, if anything, one you'd recommend for us to use in the meantime, maybe examples to riff from? The bit of fluff on the Four Winds Throne implies that the war manse (along with legions) has been enough to deter attacks for over seven hundred years, which implies some serious firepower, hence the doubt.

1wp is about 5m but it's also a limit on how much you can spam it. 1wp would be roughly equal or slightly inferior to 1hl, depending on how deep it would throw you into Wound Penalties and if you have ways to avoid said penalties. 1i is roughly equal to 1m and anima depends wildly on your build; a build that requires you to be at Bonfire to make use of its tricks will mean anima costs have high equivalents, while stealth builds actually BENEFIT from shedding anima. 1 sm is roughly equal to 1m....

The Jade Artifacts in the DB book are not exactly great in their majority, and having to rule out the whole Heirloom thing to allow Outcastes or Lookshians or w/e those Artifacts is a bit messy, let alone the whole "Evocations are 12 XP" deal that makes Dissonant or Neutral Artifacts even less desirable. Moonsilver ones are great mostly, with some exceptions, so Lunars have more freedom when it comes to picking those. Siddies and Abyssals don't have that many mechanical hurdles that I know of, if anything they're doing pretty great; both get Celestial Sorcery, one gets Void Necromancy,...

Some Artifacts lend themselves better to this kind of translation than others. Gnomon is VERY difficult to translate to other materials, though you could make a case for Moonsilver or Orichalcum, but the Hawk Star's Jess could be translated to Blue Jade. In the end I assume it's there to make going outside of your splat's themes a less potent possibility than throwing yourself fully behind them, but going outside them gets you more varied powers you wouldn't otherwise have. That said, we have too little non-Orichalcum Artifacts to go around with non-Solars, so for now I'd be fine with just translating...

Mind, these are Dynasts, aka bearers of Creation's greatest infrastructural benefits. Other Exalted will vary much more than they do, from no Artifacts to a literal hoard, and will have a much harder/more random time getting one....

Artifacts are things PCs often take right out of chargen, but they're rare enough that for the rest of the world, you barely see them outside the hands of the local Dynast (and even then a lot of Dynasts don't have those). If you find your players try to accumulate Artifacts by, say, defeating a whole Wyld Hunt and reaping the spoils (or at least they appear to have such intentions) limit the amount of Artifacts you give your antagonists at any given point. That said, Artifacts require XP and mote investment, so it balances itself out if they try to attune too many at once, or even juggle them...

That's actually a neat idea~ Though I doubt being Dissonant with an Artifact will often lead to dramatic moments, considering it's a small distinction usually, and you can't really say "Drat! If I had had this neutral-locked Evocation I would have succeeded at X!" most of the time either. I'd just treat it as a Flaw that comes online when you use a Dissonant-tagged Evocation....

Solution: "Uh, guys, this is totally not Gnomon, this is its Blue Jade brother Chronos. Totally guys. Swear on me mum. Has all of Gnomon's Evocations and pretty much works the same way though."...

Being older than her does not mean he has a higher Essence. He could have lesser Essence, even. Age matters when determining Essence, but not to the extent that you cannot see a Shogunate Elder outstripping a First Age or even Divine Revolution Elder at it....

He's likely not the highest Essence Exalt; Rakan Thulio seems like a better candidate, considering he is at least the oldest Exalt alive. I'd say Chejop and people like Anys Syn would hit 7, like Raksi. And Rakan about 8, tops, if he's given the highest Essence. Otherwise a 7 as well....

They CAN affect the material world when dematerialized, but not through touch or such. For example, a Storm Mother could shoot lightning into a material ship and its crew while dematerialized, but she couldn't directly attack them unless she had a Charm that allowed her to....

Deck stacked in their favor? The Sun being good with them means nothing regarding whether they win or lose at things. He doesn't intervene in their favor, him Exalting them is already doing so. He and the other Incarnae are enjoying their retirement and playing some cool videogames, none of them are going to directly intervene in the affairs of the world they entrusted to the Exalted. Solars, and for that matter all Exalted, are still very much amazing great figures of legend of their own doing....

As a note, I perceived Chapter 1s fiction as more, the Sun relating to her than him feeling guilty at all. They were both people who, despite whatever power they once held, could never rebel against their more powerful, 'righteous masters', and both seeked ways to overcome this and overthrow their 'masters'. For the Sun it was making Exaltation alongside the other gods and Autochthon, for her it was seeking the power of the gods and finally finding it when she strikes his statue with such pain and emotion that it reaches out to him. So there's room for interpretation there. (Also, in 3e the Sun...

  • Personally, I've only ever tried my hand at making one N/A Artifact, and that was a Starmetal eye prosthesis Artifact based on the Rinnegan from Naruto. It basically screwed a lot with the cycle of reincarnation, and the body and surroundings of the bearer, though it's still not complete and thus I haven't showed it to anyone or tested it yet. N/As are pretty much a justification for going batshit crazy on Evocations and giving a character a lot of power, though sometimes at a scale or magnitude a tad too much to control at first. I wouldn't make all or even most of them monkey's paws, but some...

Creation's horizon and most of the complicated physics things work like irl does for the sake of familiarity and not having to pack even more information into the setting in order to play the game

  • Artifact N/A: These artifacts are plot devices governed
by Storyteller fiat, capable of accomplishing legendary
miracles unlike anything else in Creation. Their
Evocations do not simply have more power and mechanical
advantage than those of lesser artifacts, but instead
allow their wielders to accomplish things no other artifact
could. They cannot resurrect the dead or enable
time travel, but beyond that, they accomplish anything,
flouting major conventions of the setting. Unlimited
    number of Evocations.

    Arms of the Chosen. Basically,...
