  • This doesn't follow. If All Myths Are True, doesn't that include the ones that are innately contradictory? If we're going to be able to (as I believe has been said) form our own pantheons and retroactively add our own creation myths to the World, doesn't that mean that we're going to have gods that existed before the pantheons they came from existed? Why is treating dragons like just another Myth so hard?

It isn't hard to be respectful, but respectful doesn't have to be "100% accurate at all times". When the differences are the ones that are obviously fictional...

I'm not saying that it stops being science because people are involved. I'm saying that studying the sociology of North Korea is either frustratingly difficult (because how do you set up research in a totalitarian country you don't live in), stupefyingly dangerous (because either you find conclusions acceptable to the State or you get shot), or both.

Looking back on my original post, I see the problem. I was making two points at once. 1) it's perfectly possible to exclude "act of God" from one's research and still study the world effectively, so studying the divine is not...

So what would be a good cult to be at the centre of a mafia organization, then?

My feeling is that, by and large, people in the World won't attempt to study the affairs of the gods scientifically. Science gives us a model of how the universe works unless the gods are involved. At which point the gods are changing the proper functioning of how the world works, and attempting to figure out by what laws, if any, the gods function is an extremely dangerous exercise in futility.

I can definitely see some Creator Scions taking an interest in using the scientific method to understand how their world works, but I think that mortal scientists who want to study the rules...

What do your Scion series look like?

Wondering what Scion is looking like on the table for people.

I have two Scion games on the go at the moment. The first is a game set in Hong Kong. The goal is wuxia with guns, and we live up to it. The band is comprised of a half-American son of Tin Hau (aka Mazu), a foxwoman daughter of the Monkey King, a temple dog and child of Er Lang's dog, and a dragon who's a triad princess. They're up against a band of eight evil anti-Buddhists, one of whom is headed for Godhood. The first arc was all about discovering why HK was so messed up. Now they're trying to take apart the Eightfold...

replied to Ephemeral Beings in Scion 2E
At the end of the day, I don't think a class of immaterial beings really has a place in Scion. It works in CoD because the assumption is that there's a coherent structure to the spirit worlds that all ephemeral beings need to conform to. In Scion, every mythology is its own thing. And, as other people have pointed out, we don't need a stripped-down mechanic to handle them, because all Antagonists have a stripped-down system to begin with.

To answer 3: You add Enhancements before comparing successes to your target's Defence. If you have ANY successes on the dice, you get your Enhancements. Then you subtract the opponent's Defence. So in your a) example, you would have 2 successes to buy Stunts with.

As I understand it, it's also because Fatebinding can reshape a God's nature, possibly creating new Mantles. Since the Gods like themselves the way they are, they avoid pushing their luck in the World.
