I think it was mentioned that the raid occured because the Avatar storm swept by and all of the traditions had lost most/all of their archmages and thus a lot of lore and knowledge. They were just desparate to find something to make up for the lost.

The second massasa war happened because you had young hermetic mages raiding a Tremere chantry looking for secrets. I think the oldest members of the clan do have secrets that would be interesting to know. But outside of true names and alchemical recipes, most of the knowledge would nonsensical to modern mages....

  • The book states "Going beyond the fifth dot in an Aspect may be possible but is the stuff of legend most magicians never see, much less accomplish." (pg.13) So it is essentially up to the ST and players to decide whether they want to include the 6th dot in their chronicle. I assume it would become essentially equivalent to narrative spells and rituals that are of legendary quality. Alchemy 6 being able to make the philosopher stone, immortality, and acheving awakening, Fascination 6 able to charm a town or a small city full of people, S/B/W 6 able to affect gods, devils, etc, Fortune...

  • While Mana Manipulation was an optional path in revised for gameplay purposes, it is now clear Quintessence Manipulation is a high priority path that at least one sorcerer player in a cabal should pick.

It is important for not only lowering difficulties but also to hang spells/rituals if my errata suggestion is not taken.

  • Then make a unique sorcerer only background called Sanctuary as in the original WOD:Sorcerer. It is basically a specially prepared sacred space that contains all of the necessary materials needed for your rituals, alchemy, enchantments, and provides extra dice/difficulty break on spellcasting or ritual casting. It also has low level Arcane/Cloak. If not, I will likely just house rule that the Sanctuary from WOD:Sorcerer can be used by my sorcerer players and suggest that to other STs I play with as a sorcerer....

  • pg.104 states "Characters aligned with the Disparate Alliance or the Traditions may include Chantry, Node, Retainers, and Sanctum in their available Background choices." I will suggest an errata to allow these for Sorcerers except Node (would require high levels in Quintessence Manipulation) and Chantry....

  • I think Sorcerers should have access to a sanctum or sanctuary even if they are members of a sorcerer affliation. They have had access to the background since the first edition of sorcerer and many affliations, like the Arcanum, Ancient Order of the Aeon Rites, and Star Council would have sanctums/laboratories sorcerers could use for research and spell casting. If the resources background is meant to represent that, then I think they would miss out on the useful bonuses to rituals and spellcasting from being in such a place....

  • A mixture of the Simplified Aspects and Default Aspects rules sounds fine to me. Since you can add any aspect to a path besides what is typical, you could start out using the default system and then when you say get 3 dots in a path, you use the simplified system and need only 1 success per your dot value in the path. But, like Dataweaver suggested, you still need to get additional success for each additional aspect outside of the default for the path. ...

  • I submitted errata concerning Hanging spells (They should remove the quintessence cost and clarify that rituals can be hung as well), and allowing Divination to be used with rituals just no specific ones can be taken by default like with other paths. Otherwise, sorcerers of the Cult of Mercury (or with the Ritual Sleeper Flaw) cannot use Divination despite it being one of their favored paths.

  • I like the core of the book, but I agree that the spell casting and ritual mechanics make casting difficult and far too time-consuming. No one wants to spend 3 or 4 rounds trying to cast a spell and 3 days to make a potion or artifact unless it is meant to be a slow-paced game with a lot of downtime. And the number of successes required to cast a spell is pretty prohibitive if you want sorcerer players to do anything magical at all in a short amount of time.

The ability to hang spells and fast-cast can compensate for this, but those are also pretty expensive to use as well.

  • I am literally just hearing about this! I am surprised this got past me since I have been waiting for it to be released. I am going to read through it now and give my thoughts.
