  • Haha, yeah. It’s one of those ‘what the student hears isn’t what the teacher teaches’ situations, I think. This Lunar forgoes clothing, bathing, and if I remember correctly is suspicious of cooked food, all of this is apparently new since her Exaltation.

We actually didn’t spend long with her, she left after an in-game month on reasonably good terms, but it’s hard to tell where that particular plot-thread will go. We left her somewhere near An-Teng and we’ve since been to Chiaroscuro, Khirigast, the deep interior of Harborhead and now we’re headed for Paragon and...

  • Our current game has been interesting in terms of combat. We started out with a PvP tournament arc and that set the bar pretty high for combat, so everything since has been difficult but manageable (a lesser elemental dragon, a Wyld Hunt with a full wing of the Silent Legion and a Sidereal) or surprisingly easy (A less-prepared Wyld Hunt with two hundred above-average mortal battle groups, a lone abyssal vs. a lone solar) and most of the time the real conflict comes from our characters personal hangups about when and whom it is okay to fight.

Essence 2 party, btw. One Night, two Twilights,...

  • Oh, not much love there, perhaps possessiveness and some jealousy, but they literally just met and didn’t hit it off well.

My Zenith’s lunar mate is a dyed-in-the-wool devotee of Ma-Ha-Suchi. Anti-civilization to the extreme, including no hygiene.

  • Yep. Of course, our game is only one way an Abyssal/Solar relationship could go. I’d say there are as many potential outcomes as there are types of relationships, with both partners having to deal with self-destructive urges of various types.

  • @Penelope

Both are female. My Zenith is a former Immaculate monk who’s been questioning her identity ever since she exalted. She’s been holding to her vows until she feels it’s the right time to break them, so chastity went out the window only when she realized that she really did love the abyssal.

It’s been a bit of a roller-coaster because the Neverborn are still whispering in the Abyssal’s ear, and she’s struggling with her own identity (am I just a weapon pretending to be a person?) but it’s a work in progress.

  • This is actually the state for my character. We have an NPC abyssal one our party who started off as a one-note antagonist, but instead of killing her we found a way for her to stick around. My Zenith is basically a classic paragon, doing good because it’s worth doing, etc, and that resonated with the Abyssal (she had a tragic backstory about the silver prince). Two story-arcs later, they had an epic and beautiful kiss in Champoor, and have been working things out since. The Abyssal is trying to start over as a new person, but she’s uncomfortable with how much underworld baggage she has to...

Apes, crustaceans, some insects, but I see your point.

Putting yourself in a larval stage hadn’t occurred to me. There are some pretty neat caterpillars that would make fun totems....

Well, in the American south Giant June Bugs (same family as Dubg Beetles, scarabaie) are sometimes sautéed and served as a side, with the recipe coming from west-African traditions...so I guess they’re good *with* Barbeque....

Dung beetles could be master crafters though, plus they’re hardy, very pretty, and have associations with various Egyptian gods.

Going back to marine life, I think a Tritonia would be a pretty miserable Lunar totem, or any shell-less Gastropoda.

And to be clear, what would make the Rhizocehyla a bad lunar totem is that it is such an ultra-specialized parasite that it truncates usual life-cycles and doesn’t even really eat, it just destroys its host and reproduces.

    The Worst Lunar Totems

Hey all, I had this thought while browsing Wikipedia when I couldn’t sleep. What would be the worst lunar animal totems? Think of animals that are impractical, gross, or in such an evolutionary niche that they cannot be played (nor would any sane person wish to play them).

I’ll start us off with these little guy/gals.
