  • Well, I have mixed feelings. I have really really loved the V5 works so far, and I absolutely love the system and metaplot developments. I personally had no issue with the chapter in question, and I'm glad that I have a pre-censorship copy of the book. So this does feel somewhat sad to me, because I was liking what was being produced in-house. So the bright spot, we are basically back to the CCP days now. I suppose they could seek out other developers, but with Onyx Path already developing Chicago by Night, it wouldn't surprise me to see them take over the development of V5 and the other lines...

  • Is the Union involved in some aspects of the Second Inquisition? UNDOUBTEDLY! Of course they would be. But the Second Inquisition is a large hydra, and the Technocracy is certainly not behind the whole thing. Like, I really doubt they have much influence at the Vatican, for instance....

  • In my opinion, Vicissitude needs to stay its own unique discipline. It's such an integral part of the Tzimisce that it would just seem really weird to see Gangrel or Setites fleshcrafting and such. Then you could use it for Obeah, and have it enhance the lore rather than take away from it.

  • In the V20 game I am currently playing, the local Camarilla already accepted Noddism because they had a encounter with Tzimisce. So now my character, a Bahari Sabbat is trying to negotiate a peace and power sharing agreement. To her, any vampire that accepts the existence of the Antediluvians is at worst False Sabbat. We don't really have any elders in the city, it's mostly composed of ancillae, so I'm not sure the Beckoning would do much anyway. The Second Inquisition can definitely play a large role. My character is frequently mocked for her unwillingness to adjust to modern forms of communication,...

  • The Lasombra have long been my favourite clan, and I ALWAYS assumed that the Abyss and Oblivion were the same thing. If they weren't, the fiction certainly didn't do anything to dispel that idea.

I've never really had a player try that hard to day walk, because most people are cognizant of the fact that it is against the themes of the game. But if one of my players persisted, I would probably throw increasingly difficult frenzy checks at them to dissuade them. The Red Fear is not something that can be contravened by a video helmet and some latex. You are walking around in broad daylight. If someone takes off your helmet, you are dead. If someone even creates a small tear in your suit, you are dead. And you will be very very very aware of these risks. So you will be afraid and susceptible...

Look at it this way, it's not as though the World of Darkness is our world plus vampires. It's our world WITH vampires. In our world, the leaders in Chechnya are human monsters. In the WoD, they just become vampiric monsters, which turns then into something the players can act against. This is a vampire game after all. The appropriate monsters are still just that, monsters. Even by vampiric standards, they are monsters. So I just don't see how this is disrespectful. But this is my final post on the topic.

Well, much of the discussion has centred on the feelings of people who would be offended because of their personal connection to the tragedy. I'm Canadian, and I'm presuming you are not from Chechnya. If I am wrong, I apologize. So then the next identity metric we would look at is the LGBT community. I am LGBT. I make no assumptions about whether you are or you are not, but pure statistics would say there is a greater likelihood that you are not. But let's suppose that you are. We are on the same playing ground in terms of our personal connection to the subject matter. I'm not privileging my opinion...

I certainly think RPG's should be fun, but to me I take them less as games and more as collaborative storytelling. I've been with groups where this Chechnya setting would be too uncomfortable, but I've been with others that enjoy very dark subject matter and would enjoy something like this. Montréal By Night was one of my favourite books, so that should give you a clue as to my own sensibilities. That said, while the distinction between White Wolf and Black Dog was useful, I don't think it exists anymore. The V5 core very clearly states that this is a game for mature audiences only. It should...

Again **shrugs** I'm currently writing a novel that is mining and distorting many of my personal tragedies. It's not exactly a comfortable process, but I think it will make for good fiction. And I know you will be tempted to retort, "yes, but you are making the choice to tell your own story that way". This is true, but I don't think others should be precluded from using my tragedies in their own fiction. Often times fiction can be incredibly uncomfortable. Given my disability and my struggles with suicidal depression, I find the movie "Me Before You" INCREDIBLY difficult to...

If you really think complaining about 10 pages in a role-playing book is positively affecting the people of Chechnya, I don't know what to tell you. Vampire is and has always been a game that not only allows, but encourages, the exploration of dark, horrific, and even evil themes for the personal enjoyment of its players. It's just a game, it's not real, and I just think you are all taking this too seriously for little practical effect.

**shrugs** The World of Darkness, and fiction in general, has long mined real-world events both historical and ongoing. Are you personally a victim of the violence in Chechnya? If so, I'm sorry this book affected you negatively, but at the very least it helped to draw attention to the situation in a group of people that might not be necessarily tuned in to global affairs. If you are not personally a victim, like what you want and dislike what you want, but I find the protestations self-righteous. I can guarantee that this chapter was written with goals of social justice and social awareness in...

*sigh* I'm really tired of everything I enjoy being torn apart by both SJW's and alt-righters. One side screaming it's problematic, the other side screaming it's pandering to snowflakes. Like what you want to, but don't claim it is morally wrong because you don't like it. As for the feeding issue, yes it is often very sexual, but it is only described as overwhelming pleasure. Pleasure is not always sexual. Anyone who has ever experienced IV opiates can tell you that that rush is far more powerful than any orgasm. That's always how I imagine the feeling for mortals. So feeding on a baby is not...

  • "Edgelord" is a pejorative Insult that is rarely warranted. The Hunger system is amazing and the best thing to ever happen to Vampire. The Tremere are far better in V5 than they ever were before. Lilith is far more interesting than Caine. The Giovanni are practically unplayable and should be replaced by a resurgent Capadocian/Lazarene/Harbinger Clan. The term "Prince" is sort of weak and I have a hard time believing any self-respecting powerful monster would use it....

  • That doesn't mean they aren't rare. ;-) But actually, it would be kind of interesting to me if the Lazarenes replaced the Giovanni and the Salubri "replaced" the Ravnos. Everything old is new again....

Well, with the Tzimisce undisputed leaders now, that would stand to reason. But still, I hope there is room for other moralities.

  • Yes, the Tremere were nerfed. Yes, that's a good thing. And I say that as someone who is currently playing a Tremere in a V20 game, and I love her to pieces. At only the third level of Blood, and a little planning, I can make myself as powerful as a Antediluvian for an hour or as powerful as a Methuselah for a few hours. Now, throw on secondary paths at the ridiculously low cost of Current Level x4, and you can definitely become overpowered very very fast. Now, what I would like to see, and what I do think we will get over time, is some of the old individual path abilities as options, so that...

I'm really interested to see what, if anything, they do with the Paths. The core morality system already allows you to create a pretty inhuman monster if you wanted to.

I am pretty excited for the prospect of M5. I think my biggest fear is that they will dumb down the idea of consensual reality and the flexibility of the Spheres. These are always the hardest things for new players to wrap their head around, but for me they are what make Ascension my all-time favourite game. I think there is definitely potential to use a Hunger-esque system for Paradox, and I really liked the suggestions that Trippy made a few pages ago.

As for the fluff, I don't mind some changes. The Union has been on the brink of civil war for a while now, so it wouldn't surprise...
