Fuckin hell, xguild! You got stones. Even for a Swede.

Would have been fun to see you in the old days when Revised came out.

  • Well put, Moirdryd.

I'd also say that at the end of the day, very few core- or sourcebooks are all that necessary. I really loved the fact that WW took up Victorian Age Vampire, but I'd have say that as an ST the VA:V books are just about the most useless gaming books I've ever encountered. The art is brilliant and it's always nice to set the scene and all, but in terms of background, atmosphere and game mechanics they're worth fuck all. Sorry if I'm raining on anyone's parade and I really don't mean to trash talk the old developers, but I've had to do all the research myself and...

That is an awesome rule. We're pretty much the same - dorks working with PCs so the creative break with pencils and dice is rather welcome.

Oh, and I'm not Swedish - merely Danish. My grand mom was Swedish, though ... dunno if that counts?

  • I can agree to some extend that many of the books have been clustered with low gens and that much of the attitude has been "you can't mess with them". As an ST I have given the meta plot little consideration, as I prefer to create my own "universe", in which elders and neonates interact in a - granted - unequal way, which moves the players in different directions. Had they been on equal levels (combat wise), my players would have eaten all of them, so the low gen aspect actually serves a purpose.

Incidentally, I once ran a campaign where my players were Ventrue...

  • The game is not about winning - and players and the ST are not opponents who are battling each other. I loathe to say it, but if that is your attitude to the game, you're doing it wrong.

Elders are the fabric in the game which gives players/neonates a bearing and limitations. They are what makes the surroundings of the players intelligible in terms of social constructs and aspirations. Without them the players are merely monsters without a clue, who roam a bleak world of food that looks like yourself.

So taking them out of the equation is a pretty bad idea.

    Thanks, “Goose”.

Dunno if I’m classy but let’s keep it honest this time around.

Bloody hell! What has it been? 14 years? It’s like our game keeps us young with it ... or something.

The Forum Con 2004 was a classical act ... but only due to Jackob and 42! It’ll never see the same scene again.

But incidentally, some of us still see each other. Just spent yet another hollyday with DGG this summer, so it’s still alive.

So, yeah ... next Forum Con.

Just to make sure that I wasn't talking (solely) out of my arse, I revisited the infamous article on Dog With Dice, and I ended up fast reading through the drivel, as I couldn't stomach the antics of a freshman sociology student, who sees conspiracies and fascists everywhere - even in places where it's so blatantly not. So we are not allowed to depict racism, pedophilia and other horrible traits in a game called World of Darkness? I wonder what sort of world the author thinks we're actually living in.

Ay carramba! What a ridiculous tosser! And what a shame that Onyx Path had to...

I have to say, as a Dane I find the term "Swedish Edgelords" as very much an oxymoron considering how outrageously PC their country has become. Here's an example of what typically happens when a Danish comedian (in lack of a better term) has a laugh at their expense:

It's not that I fancy provocation just for the hell of it or nasties in my Vampire Rulebook, but as this is a game of personal horror which deals with all the darkness humans and undeads are cabable of performing, I find it rather odd that some readers...

I find it hard to believe it should be edgy with that shoddy cover. Bloody hell! It gives me nasty flashbacks to many a horrible poster I had to endure in girlies' rooms in the 80s in order to hang out with them.

And even if it is, so what? Some people are getting really annoying these days with their demands for safe spaces, vegan food and ridiculous pronouns.

  • I have to agree that Generation has always been a bit of a nuisance - especially as it inevitably led to diablerie and that road both leads to twinking and a somewhat constipated environment where the players' possibilities rapidly shrink, as they will constantly be hunted for their crimes.

In fact, the whole Background concept has been a source of grief for me, as I prefer to let the story define their alliances and influences, rather than a trait defining it.

This time around I refused them Background points, and decided they should all play 9th gens. And I have toned...

  • It's a little amusing to see how the exact same debate occurs every time a new edition is published. When Revised came people bitched and whined and when Requiem came "nothing was ever the same again!". It's of course understandable as this game attracts a rather zealous fanbase (myself included), but it is still a little amusing.

I'm still playing 2nd edition but I often borrow mechanics from the later editions. At the end of the day what makes this game great is the atmosphere and no core book will ever fully be able to capture that - it's created by the people who play...
