  • SHE LIVES! ANATHEMA IS BACK ON TRACK BABY!

Kenai is now working on usable, workable UI (To clarify, we've got a design we like, it's hooking the code into that design I'd spoiled earlier is the issue), and we had to dump a good chunk of code as we'd been doing it, cutting out some functionality that we'll have to implement later in a different fashion, but Anathema is reincarnated folks! IntelliJ is working, we've had to roll back to a previous version of our core software engine (Which is named Lytek for those of you who are amused by that sort of thing.) and Anathema will be moving...

While I agree with the intention, here's some of what I know about shields from HEMA. On this one, I'm not claiming to be an expert, merely an interested layman.

Consider the buckler; you hold it out from your body as far as you can so it actively covers more of your body as a sort of cone of protection.

Consider the viking round shield, ideally you'd use it to cover your swings and blows when fighting, because it's basically used as mobile cover.

Now, how is cover represented in Exalted? By increasing your Defense by a point or two, possibly making you immune...

Well that's the thing isn't it? A shield is something you use to actively defend yourself; it *isn't* armor. Not in the traditional sense. Stick a spike on it too and nobody argues it's a weapon. So it doesn't make sense to make its benefits passive....

replied to The Empress : Who Was She?
I'd call it a Legalist Imperial State. After all, she's basically Qin Shihuang Di; that is to say; "Excellent warrior. Intelligent, an autocrat to the core... and incredibly cruel to her enemies"

In terms of character, we can draw a lot of parallels between her and "The First August God-Emperor of the Qin". (Yes, he really named himself that when he formulated the title of "Emperor' which was a notion he'd invented, not wanting to place himself on a level equal to any king. For most of of his early life he was King Ying Zheng of Qin)

    Both of them...

Honestly were it me, the only change I'd make is allowing it to make full defense actions in any flurry with the caveat it only applies to parry. The flurry and lost initiative is punishment enough. Otherwise, a shield actually, truly is a weapon; just one dedicated primarily to parrying. Ask any historian on the subject these days and that's how they classify shields.

  • In his case he tried it, the problem comes when Cursive parses his code.

EDIT: I am a layman and therefore not an expert.

Well that's the issue. The code functions but the compiler does not.

At the same time, look forward soon, we've got some help from another coder friend of his whom Kenai says is a "wiz kid" when it comes to coding, and he'll be having a lot of free time soon....

Dreams of the First Age are an effective method. The same can be said for your Zenith Caste's vision from God.

The thing is though... the roughly even chances of being a horrible monster with your power... are uh, kind of a feature, not a bug. "Tis right there in the book; If you want to test a man's character, give him power....

  • He's the coder, I'm just the public relations/management. So to speak.

Though your assessment on how much overlap there is between programmers and Exalted fans is basically what I've been trying to tell him for months. He started believing me only recently.

Though in his case, he likes Clojure because basically it's "solving philosophical problems and paradoxes to code"...

  • Making it in Java would have taken this long just to make the most basic code.

Trust me, we had very good reasons NOT to do it in Java. Java alone is responsible for a third of the wait until we scrapped using it entirely.

What was a big issue about a month or so back was that Kenai was using his favorite programming language Clojure. Before he'd flip-flopped between Kotlin and Clojure. The difference being that Clojure gave him more freedom and was more flexible, but that Kotlin was effort-saving. He eventually went with Clojure after I'd reminded him that if Kotlin...
