Just use a cell structure for information with a bit of unreliable narrator :

Your john doe doesn't know the plans of his boss or maybe he thinks he does and tells what he perceives to be the truth to the PCs

Your character may have done something that he cannot come to terms with and has reconstructed his memories of the event. And that's what he tells the PCs. In this case there should a couple of clues in his version of events that allow the players to see that something is fishy if they cross-check the information with other sources.

    If the PCs ask something...

That's a very good idea, thanks ! It adds to the difficulty of making such ammo and gives a good reason why it works in-lore, awesome ! ...

    You make very good points.

As for the difficulty to make the suit and it's resilience, I actually want to make it vague enough that PCs don't feel comfortable using it. There has to be an element of risk and unknown.
As far as I can tell you have to have a pretty well light proofed haven or use a ritual like consecrate the sacred haven in order to spend the day safely. But that may depend on the ST.

For your second point, I was reading New York by Night for inspiration and they mention that a mere apprentice created the path of technomancy without much trouble....

  • I'd say that personal horror is about choice and the consequences of those choices.

There are really awesome examples in the thread already and i can't come up with better ones on the fly but mostly it would be to give players the freedom to explore the world and it's characters and have them react when shit happens.

Sometimes it will be to save a man, only to later find out that he went home and murdered his family just for kicks without any supernatural intervention.
Maybe it will be to see a human character behave monstrously and be powerless to stop him because...

Actually, this idea is me having a brainstorming attack from someone mentioning v5 "sunbags" on discord. I always had an issues with the low tech world in Vampire, so this has been a kind of trigger for me.
By the same token, I'd assimilate a hole in a sunsuit to the effect of an airborne extremely corrosive compound (or very active biological agent) would have on an operator wearing a compromised hazmat suit while having lost positive pressure.

If PCs want to use these suits the'd have to treat them like a pilot that checks his plane and soldiers that do a buddy check...

Actually, these drawbacks are actually adding to the usefulness of the suit story wise as the characters have to make the calculus and decide if they want to risk it or not.
I'm thinking about adding an armoured version that would hamper mobility and provide protection against UV rounds. But that's for later, i'm just populating the setting now.
I'm going for something between traditional v20 with some elements from underworld added in.
The idea is to add tech that has advantages and drawbacks a bit like in a janken game and mostly to introduce uncertainty when dealing with regular...

I don't understand the masquerade violation issue. To any non informed human, it would just be some kind of military tech/stealth suit, I think.

I don't actually want it to be super practical and it's mostly for the cool effect and to tempt players into operations where they might have to race the sun back to the haven or try and escape the have besieged by enemy ghouls. The only real issue I see would be the inequity to Gangrel characters pointed out by Nosimplehiway....

Well, I was indeed going for the cool effect

Actually, I'm thinking about setting the chronicle in New York by having the PCs arrive by boat or plane because they have been "rewarded" with the opportunity to make their havens in NYC, only to find out it was utter BS just to get rid of them. So they get sent to see the prince but she's busy, so is the Senechal and so forth until they get set the task to answer the request of a Malkavian scientist to whom the Prince owed a boon for his assistance in the battle for New York. They are to to help her/him with whatever he/she...

The idea is not to truly daywalk, it's to be able to survive if you're caught outside by sunrise and have to improvise or if the coterie is returning late to the haven and have to brave a couple of minutes of sunlight.
I never said it was a sane idea, hence the Malkavian scientist thing.

Finally, about -trying- to outsmart God, why not? Vampires are already cheating death, aren't they? At a heavy price, of course, but still doing it.

And there are ways for vampires to be allowed a measured and conditional amount of waking time during daylight, be it Thaumaturgical...

As I answered Cifer, this is part of the good stuff. With this, you get to tempt players with daywalking while making sure it's only really useful for vamps with higher humanity hence why the bigwigs would sent a coterie composed of experienced neonates on a high risk high value mission.

Humanity becomes a really valuable commodity.

But even if the vampire were to fall to torpor shortly after sunrise, this kind of suit would be far better than just burning up and it would allow them to take shelter in more improvised locations if a regular haven couldn't be had. The same...

You do have a point... But it's a good one !
I get to tempt players with a bit of daywalking while they have to manage not frenzying while fending of torpor... It's a thin hope but it is quite more useful for higher gen and/or higher humanity vampires and it would be quite the equalizer against elder or lower gen vampires in general ...

I completely agree with you. In V20 I wouldn't have thought even of a "sunbag" as is described by Cifer for the v5 corebook reference i mentioned.

If we accept that such light protection works to protect a slumbering vampire for the entire day, why not a suit that allows a vampire to survive sunrise or firstlight long enough to reach safety.

I think that most players might be tempted to push this and therefore things get interesting because the sun is not the main enemy anymore it's the state of the PC's humanity and willpower.

    Do you want your...

Sorry, i didn't understand the reference. In this case, the video seen inside the helmet could be processed video that didn't show that it's day "outside".

Would this help manage the beast?...

It's the possibility that's interesting. My initial reaction to the comment was disbelief based on the v20 rules Nosimplehiway quoted. I didn't think something like that would stop a vampire from burning in the sunlight.

However since v5 seems to really up the ant regarding threats to vampires, maybe that's why White Wolf inserted this item in the core v5 book?

Since you describe the "sunbag" as a simply heavy duty body bag, i agree with your "cheap solution". This however makes it even more likely that a heavily armoured version could work very well....

Nosimplehiway, I agree completely for v20 but i saw a post on a discord server about a v5 equipment item called a sunbag, that allows to survive daylight. To me its name suggests it to be light/portable and if it's a common-ish item, it cannot be that expensive. I don't have v5, so I can't check.

Extending this concept into a suit would allow mobility. Considering the strength of a vampire compared to a similarly sized human, why not armour it with kevlar or even heavier solutions?

As Leandro16 noted, the operator being capable of daytime operations would be the highest...

    Sunlight protection

    Hello all,

I read on a discord post that, in v5, vampires can take shelter from the sun by enclosing themselves in a "sunbag" which is supposed to be like a totally enclosed sleeping bag.

Not having yet bought v5, can anyone that has please tell me if it truly is so?

If it is then futuristic fully isolated and helmeted suits could do the same, no?

I always found it odd that being in full darkness in a building would protect a vampire whereas a fully radiation isolated suit with video feeds for the sight would not.

    So...

    Hello,

I have used your character generator in the past but most people i play with do not speak english (i live in France) and if you'd be up for it, i would be delighted to translate everything to french.

Thanks a lot for your work

  • DrSharky I was actually a user (not for very long, though) on your site before you posted this here 😇😉
I have to say that it's already a very very nice tool and that everything beyond is gravy. 😁
I have made a couple of suggestions 😇
