  • Well, I don't know for certain. But in my games, the Ritual of the Final Night was a way for Cappy's Specter to fully enter the skin lands. Maybe that's what Uncle Augie is running from? It is suggested that something is following Beckett, and that it could very well be Cappy's Specter....

  • Considering that Cappy's plan was to diablerize God, it brings up an interesting philosophical possibility.

Since the biblical God is creation incarnate, wouldn't diablerizing him actually destroy creation? Wouldn't Oblivion win?

So perhaps becoming a Specter was Cappy's intent all along......

  • I don't know if it's retconned. Page 9 of the transcript has the following:

To put it as best I can, it’s like a black hole with a will surrounded by an infinite abyss (to
continue the metaphor, mortal scientists would call it an accretion disk) of infinite depth and
proportion, which contains beings trapped there in the absence of light. Trapped between being
and non-being. It is all contained by a maze so twisting and chaotic and elaborate that it almost

  • In my opinion, the Ritual of the Endless Night was at least partially an attempt to allow that to happen, at least in some form.

  • It's interesting that they kept it open to interpretation.

I did like the reference to Cappy's soul being split into three parts. Uncle Augie has one, one is roaming the Shadowlands (his spectre, perhaps?), and one is hidden somewhere on Earth, but no one knows where.

This leaves it open for me to say that no, Cappy didn't actually die. Perhaps he's biding his time. He was often considered the most patient of the Antediluvians, even more so than Saulot.

By far my favorite chapter so far. Very well written and so much flavor!...

  • Warning: Taking Ashe may make you feel an urgent need to go to bite the necks of those nearby. Until you have a sense of any treatment effects, it’s probably a smart idea to wear dark clothing, and bring a change of clothes with you to work. Also, users of Ashe have experienced cranial-rectal inversion, toe-jam football, and excessive belly-button lint. Please do-not call a doctor immediately if you have unusual crab-like growths coming out of your head or if you have an erection that lasts more than 48 hours....
