  • Mechanically, more Dex is still always best (it dictates so many things, like disengage) but 3e has made it less crucial to Exalted than it's ever previously been, especially for Solar Brawl.

Bear with me: Solars can get solid initiative off Join Battle rolls right out of the gate. You'll then be able to wither for initiative as part of a grapple (check out savaging attacks on page 201 of the Core book). With the kind of dice pool you're talking, against most foes one-on-one there's an excellent chance you'll establish control for several turns, savage once to build some more initiative...

  • Previous (short) game was similar to most others' experiences above, everyone was very mono-focused on a sole 'the pointy end goes in the other man' skill, with dodge also taken by the ranged fighters. Charms were overwhelmingly from one tree.

For our current (DB) game, after some trial and error, we've used a modified version of the Dynast education template from 2e, with Thrown being subbed in for archery if preferred and Linguistics 1 and Occult 1 also added. Every player spent all their bonus points on abilities, with a couple of merits maybe, so people are still rocking 5s in...

  • Minor nitpick, but Word of Dev says that for DBs Excellencies do count as pre-reqs (I imagine this is also the case for any Exalt that has to buy them): http://forum.theonyxpath.com/forum/m...23#post1298823...

  • This is totally a thing! It's covered in Heirs (sorry, I feel like that's pretty much all I talk about on here) in a section called Heaven's Dragons. Basically, some DB survivors of the Divine Revolution who entered Heaven never left and have carved out impressive estates for themselves amidst Yu-Shan's forsaken areas/slums. They're often engaged as fixers or troubleshooters by Gods and Sidereals, able to do 'off the books' stuff (black market trade/spy missions in Creation, that kind of thing) that others can't touch. I've spoilered a couple of paras that might be helpful from the rest of the...

  • Suspect you're thinking of Aspect Book: Earth, the intro fiction has her parlaying (underwater no less, with some slaughtering of demons to boot) with Perfected Tears Upon Alabaster Sorrow, an emissary for the Mask of Winters, and requesting support in the upcoming Civil War....

  • Yeah, V’Neef’s position in your game is fascinating. There’s surely nothing for her in joining the Cathak coalition other than complete subordination and the sacrifice of her fleet and Western holdings to Peleps, but the alternative is, as you say, Mnemon and Sesus.

I could see her, being as charismatic as hell, electing to become/be seen as the people’s champion, purportedly attempting to ensure the Realm’s institutions aren’t devastated by the war but in reality making herself enough of an independent power that she has to be actively courted rather than bulldozed into subservience....

  • This all sounds amazing and I'd love to contribute some ideas when I have a bit more time, but some very vague starter for 10 concepts to be considered/dismissed at your leisure if still of use:

On your point 1: Maybe Cathak, at Cainan's command, are making subtle overtures to your players that if Mnemon herself can't be brought to accept the new reality then perhaps the Alinos branch of the family could be persuaded to seize the reins of the Mnemon house? With the Emerald Thrible promised to Mnemon Nanals as a prize along with the story of how Cainan has mastered old age – her...

  • Sorry, another Immaculate style one, but as this thread has come up again thought I'd add this that has proven the most fun we've had MA combos and the Divine Heritage merit: we have a fae-blooded DB NPC (recruiter for the Cult of Violet Fangs) in our game who combines Water Dragon and Snake with the the Soul-Thieving Method Eclipse charm from the Doppelganger from HDNP.

Combo-ing Armour-Penetrating Fang Strike with STM and Theft-Of-Essence Method and then using Essence-Dousing Wave Attack to nix form was hella WP intensive but shut down our PC Earth Dragon user, was a real "Sit...

I was going to say the same thing as Lioness on the Forest Witches...

In addition to this, in Heirs there's also the Cult of the Violet Fang, who are basically a line of fae-blooded DBs who conduct pilgrimages into the Wyld to meet their ancestors and are then put through ordeals by said ancestors to earn boons/favours/get driven mad (it very much comes across as you never get something for nothing when dealing with the Fair Folk). So there is canon examples of DBs surviving in the Wyld and being transfigured in all sorts of ways by the fae while there, so can totally see your premise...

This one was a hypothetical discussion point really, for say an Fire Aspect Thrown user – a combo that seems like one of the better out of aspect match ups outside Melee but one that is unlikely to be able to use the Dodge Wood sig as things stand – or say a non-Wood Aspect using one of the Dodge-based MAs. Musing/being greedy more than anything as that's probably a reasonable status quo.

Take the point about Earth and mobility – given that EDGD makes Hopping Firecracker Evasion match your anima at E5 already, think the devs agree with you.

Yeah, was more thinking about giving the less well-served auras elements to boost their defences but still stay in aura outside of the Excellency, which as you pointed out isn't really the point of your exercise. Apologies

Was also thinking something like an Earth elemented variant on Hopping Firecracker Evasion, akin to this at 40 secs...

These are great, thanks for sharing. Fire Brawl is something I'd have selfishly loved to see more of across WFHW and Heirs, but there's only space for so much.

On Melee, I kinda figured they might tweak the Water variation on Dragon-Scale Shield so it's less specific and thus could be used for aura management. Along with Graceful Flowing Defence and Fire Incites Water To Clouds you'd have options then (the other DSS variations seem like handy ways to make the right aura available for melee).

Earth and Dodge – with two charms (not counting Elusive Dragon-God Dispersion)...

  • This has been my experience too.

It was often the actual number of Siderals that made the Gold/Bronze divide seem so odd to folks I played with. 'So, X Sids have just died/are in training, Scroll of Exalts gives us 10 Sids, throw in the Green Lady, Dozima Wokish and the other named guys... we're just basically meat in the room at this point aren't we?'

When your 'faction' is 40 people arguing against 30, with another 10 newbs who don't have an opinion yet and another 15 who are contemptuous of both sides, the 5 typical players I've encountered largely tend to just go...
